Classic Disney Musical
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Disney's technological film advances are still used today, and Pete's Dragon is another reason why those techniques are effective. While modern film advances would be able to pull off the technical aspects of including an animated dragon with an otherwise live-action cast, there is just something about the original hand-drawn Disney cartoons that sparks immediate nostalgia. I watched this movie dozens of times when i was a child, and then after returning to it at 29, it still is worth watching. I now marvel at the flagrant alcohol abuse throughout the movie, because it's doubtful that would ever make its way into a Disney film in the 2000s, but I never gave it a second thought when I was a kid, so I guess maybe it's not as relevant as some people may think. I'd still have no problem showing this film to my children someday. Not something that would ever win anyone an Oscar for acting, but some of the songs actually are still clever and funny, as well as anything that has to do with Elliot the Dragon. From his appearance, to his mannerisms, to his interactions with people, everything about Elliot is endearing.

Beautiful restoration
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This movie was a favorite of my daughters when they were growing up and we had it on VHS. After renting from Amazon and later from Netflix for my young grandson I was thrilled to find this anniversary edition. The restoration is impressive on Blu-Ray and more than acceptable on DVD. The story and songs are memorable even for very young children. As a teacher I have never been happy with the negative portrayal of the school and its teacher, but the scene is brief and Elliot is definitely the star of the scene even though he is invisible at that point. The mix of animation and live action is classic Disney and executed perfectly, especially for that time.

Timeless classic
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very happy with this purchase. For those on the lookout, the case is actually the size of a traditional DVD vs a standard blu-ray case, if that matters to anyone. Not a con in my book, but wasn't aware going in (ordered it online); so hoping to help anyone this might matter to. There is a version floating around that comes in a standard blu-ray case as well at other retailers (I have personally purchased both, one for my collection - this one; the other as a gift). Found the content on the discs for either is identical in every way, however. Overall, timeless classic for both the young and young at heart.

Better than I remembered
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. With the release of the new Pete's Dragon, I had some nostalgia to watch the original. The new version has flashy graphics and high definition, but the simplistic story of the 1977 version is refreshing and I've found far more engrossing for the kids. I didn't expect Disney to spend a lot of money re-scanning, cleaning, and enhancing the 1977 version, but they did a decent job and it is very watchable. If you have young kids or any adult that remembers the original, this is a great purchase. Someone in their teens to early thirties probably won't appreciate it though.

My kids loved it!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Funny enough my kids and i watched this AFTER we watched the new one and they liked it better! Its more of the typical old skool Disney musical types. The songs are silly but fun. The only thing that i spose i could "complain" about is theres a couple parts that weren't enhanced well from vhs, to dvd, to Blu-ray. But truly not a big deal. Still a great classic movie and glad to have it in my collection.

Blast from the past
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I know they did a remake, which I haven't seen (yet), but I grew up on this one. Does it hold up....well, that's debatable. It's a lot easier to forgive the silly story and sometime awkward live action/animation blend when looking through the eyes of a child. I enjoyed watching them delight in it. And, if you can turn off your grown-up mind and just watch it, I would say it held up just fine.

Classic
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Classic movie to compliment the remake. Not one for musicals but this is close to the heart. Old school animation combined with live actors from the 70's gives the throwback feel of the past. Wonderful story line and fun for all ages, this film is an original that must be part of your collection to compliment the new version from 2016. If you have one, you must get the other.

My wife loves this movie, she enjoyed it
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this movie for my wife. She grew up with it, and did not like the hyper realistic one that was recently released. She was very excited to have this one. I'm extremely irritated at Disney for not putting Digital Copies in all their movies... honestly, if you are going to release it on Bluray, add in the digital copy code, stop being so darn stingy. Or do I have to wait for the Ultra Diamond double Platinum Ultimate edition to get a digital copy included?

A great family movie.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I remember this movie from when I was a child and I really liked it. I wanted to share it with my wife and daughter, who have never seen it. They thought it was great. This was the first time I have seen it in widescreen and the blu-ray HD made it look better than ever. I highly recommend this movie for any family movie night.

Childhood Classic!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I absolutely loved this movie as a kid! I used to check the 12 inch soundtrack album out at the library and belt out all of the songs! Great story! Heartwarming and very nostalgic. I still love this movie to this day! Definitely a must-see for your bucket list of classics! :)

A first for me
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was one of the very few Disney movies I had never gotten around to watching. After watching the remake, I had to check out the original. I enjoyed the original far more than the remake - that's no surprise. The Blu-ray is a must-have for the collection

Childhood Favorite
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had to pick this up after watching the remake. Thankfully it was different enough that it didn't feel like they were trying to replace this one. This is a childhood favorite of mine. It's great to have on Blu Ray and is one of the few times I've seen a Disney title on sale.

Great restored classic movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been looking for this movie for a while and found this blu-ray on sale. Beautifully restored, very sharp picture and good sound. This was one of our favorite childhood movies growing up and I wanted to share it with the next generation of my family.

Great value for the money!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. With the DVD release of the new Pete's Dragon movie, I figured there was no better time to show my kid's the original. Unfortunately, it appears I never had bought it, so it was time for a quick Best Buy search - I'm happy to say it was much cheaper than I expected!

great family movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this movie to watch with the grandchildren. We enjoy many Disney movies together and this was certainly another enjoyable movie. I enjoyed seeing this movie with my family when I was much younger. And it was definitely fun to enjoy it all over again.

An interesting choice for blu-ray mastering
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pete's Dragon was one of the first films to showcase the animation talents of Don Bluth, who went on to produce the famous laser disc games Dragon's Lair and Space Ace, as well as the classic animated films A Land Before Time, An American Tail, and the not so memorable Rock-A-Doodle and Pebble & The Penguin. Pete's Dragon was released in the general post-Disney malaise of the late 70's, and perhaps a better choice for blu-ray release of a Disney live-action/animated film might have been Mary Poppins (which IS getting a blu-ray release)...which is perhaps why this might be a release to grab. Just because it is a more obscure title, though it falls into a typical formula for Disney live-action/animated stories, with strongly-stereotyped characterizations, highly predictable plot, and the prerequisite musical numbers. However, it seems to hold the interest of our 4-year old daughter, so as long as it reaches a new audience, then it is worth a purchase.

Glad I found this version
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My granddaughter loved this movie and had seen it on our old VHS recorded from the Disney Channel when my daughter was young. Poor quality. This is so much better than that old version. I had looked in other stores but never found it.

Disney family
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got the movie for my son. We are a Disney fanatic family and I wanted to get as many of the Disney movies for us. I love this movie and so does my son. Plus I got it when it was on sale for less then $10. That was awesome.
