First off Hue is expensive and not something anybody really needs. However, it's one of those things that has a high cool factor and if your into gadgets whats $200 bucks. I am a gadget guy and had the $200 so I went for it. Hue arrived via Amazon, so he was right on time and a day early. I couldn't wait to get him out of the box and give him a test run. It was incredibly easy to set up. I mean really easy, so don't worry about that. First download the app on to your Ipad or Iphone from the Apple App Store. Secondly plug the Hue Bridge into your router with the included ethernet cable (you need an open port on your router) and screw the pricey bulbs into a fixture. Then push the button on the Hue Bridge and grab your device and start making rainbow colored rooms. Everything worked perfectly the first time, the router found the bulds and the app controlled the whole thing. Really very cool, it worked exactly as it should.

I love my Philips Hue lightstrips. I have two of them - one mounted on the back of my TV for a glow and the other mounted underneath my kitchen cabinets. These do not get overheated, they are very easy to set up and allows for you to create your own vibe in whichever room you chose.
Be conscious of corners/angles while applying the adhesive. Corners can be tricky as the light does not necessarily bend well. Also, these do have to be plugged in to the wall. They do not have battery functionality.

Easy to use and addicting! I started out with one for my daughter's bathroom remodel and have since added them to other bathrooms! Great ambience and great night light for the little one or when the in-laws come to town!

Beware of placing over a hardwood floor

As expected, gives a wide range of colors and gets pretty bright, making for really slick looking accent lighting.
HOWEVER, know before buying that the light emitted doesn't even look close to the advertised glow when positioned over a clean hardwood (or presumably tile) floor, because the LEDs are clearly individually visible from their reflection off the floor as opposed to an amorphous glow, which is how Philips usually advertises it. This was a big problem for me, as most of my home is hardwood with area rugs. To me, this really took away from the look, so I had an incredibly low-tech solution, which was to take tissues folded over once, and tape them over the lightstrips....this disbursed the light enough that now a "glow" look comes out as advertised. Sounds silly, but worked just fine for me.
I feel as if I can't really deduct stars from the review, because the above problem isn't really a fault of the product design per se, as much as it is a result of the reflectivity of the surface over which they are mounted.

Awesome Lights & Accurate Color

The colors on these light strips appear to be more accurate than the Hue Ambilight Color bulbs. When you change colors on the color palette wheel/block and choose a shade of blue you actually get a pretty accurate blue, unlike the Ambilight bulbs that look more purple-ish than blue. This is great if you are using the Hue light strip lights as a TV/media enhancer much like the Phillips Ambilight TV's (see my pics of using the light strip with a free app called 'Huey' - only for Droid right now). The 3M backing on these lights adheres to the back of my TV very well without it slipping off. The lights are much brighter than I expected, which is great. Overall I'm very happy with these lights and I'd recommend buying these for accent lighting or for your entertainment center.

These lights are so fantastic! I bought three to put underneath three edges of my bed. They can be cut (in specific places) to be made shorter in order to fit whatever they're being attached to. They are just enough to accent my bed and make it look super unique and cool. They are great mood setters and add a nice light to help me get into bed without smashing my feet.
They can be changed to any color individually or synced to change colors together. Also, they can be dimmed if desired. The best part is it can all be done from my phone. I also have the Phillips Luminaire light bulbs and the strips can sync with the bulbs.
The only reason I didn't give these light strips 5 stars is because I really dislike that the strips are not wireless and result in the cut off parts of the strips being useless. The strips must be directly plugged into an outlet, so if a part of the strip is cut off, then it cannot be connected to an outlet. The removed piece must be soldered back onto the strip to light up. I don't like being wasteful. Phillips needs to fix this and then I'd have no complaints about these strips.

You get what you pay for I guess. Yes they are a bit up there in the price range but they're great and convenient. Set up was a breeze and the strip looks great behind my TV as ambient lighting. I have multiple hue products and I love them.

Gotta have the strips with the whole Hue system.
Be aware that you need a "lip" on your cabinet to really hide these for the best effect. They are pricey but... man, they are cool.
GENERAL BULB REVIEW:
OK, yes they are expensive...But, they are awesome. If you buy only a couple at a time and wait for sales at Best buy (they DO have them from time to time) You can eventually have the whole house set up.
Speaking of set-up, it is relatively easy for even a novice. I do have suspicions however, that they take up a bit of the bandwidth if that is an issue for you. They work best if your home is primarily light colored walls, as you can completely have a new look whenever you want to by uploading any picture or color scheme that suits your mood and...Bam, new paint!

Something you may not know about the strips is that you can cut them! Now you do "lose" the part that you cut off, but you can basically customize it to fit anywhere. I have 2 along the back side of my TV near the edge and it creates great ambiance for TV watching. Added bonus, you can sync it with some programs on the SyFy channel and they will actually change based on each scene you are watching.

One Part Of A Great System

If this was a review of the Philips Hue system as a whole, I would give 5 stars. Compared to the Hue Bulbs, Iris, and Bloom, I feel this light strip takes last place for light output, but first place for versatility. In terms of the physical dimensions of this light strip, it is a bit short for almost 100 bucks, but being able to put this in very tight places makes up for that fact. I have mine on top of the kitchen cabinets and it provides a very awesome glow at night. In terms of light output, it is not as bright or as accurate in color and temperature as the normal Hue bulbs. When I group all my bulbs together on the app, especially in the light blue color range, the light strip always seems to put off a more green color rather than blue color. I often have to adjust the light strip color on its own in order for it to better match the other normal bulbs. If you are adding this light strip to your collection of Hue bulbs, i recommend thinking first about if you could light that area with a normal bulb, and if you can then use the normal bulbs. If you are limited on space or need the strip type lighting then I would say go for this. Overall I enjoy having this light strip in my home. I have seen people line their book shelves with these lights and it is an amazing addition to any room lighting solution.

I already had a few of the HUE products. Once you are familiar with the app this one is just like the rest of the lights. Just plug it in and set the app to search for new lights and it is there. It is a little pricey, but I like it for sticking under my bar.

This light did exactly what it said it would do. I am a big fan of the Hue system and have a number of bulbs. I tried this as an undercounted light in the kitchen. As I pulled the string of lights through holes in the cabinet bracket the plastic strand broke about a third of the way from the end. Luckily the rest of the strand worked fine and fit under the cabinet and gave a nice light. Colors can be changed and some levels of brightness can be adjusted. It would be nice if you could have a plug on either end and cut the thing in two. As it stands you end up throwing away any part of the strand that you cut off. There is a power adapter on the end which really could have benefited from an on off switch. Otherwise it works well with my Hue bridge and my automation system.

I used this lights to give light to my wall of cd and DVDs collection. The fact that it already had to sticky back and was easy to install. Don't like all the electrical cable would have wanted more lights for the money less with the wire. Over all very happy with my hue lights

This is the first generation light strip but as long as you have the newer generation bridge, it's pretty much the same. It works well with the hue family. Looks great behind the TV, especially if you have it connected to the sound system.

Let me preface this review by saying we live in a very small and close-knit gated community. We bought this along with three of the Hue LED bulbs all together. We live in a two story house with a lot of windows on both stories and have this strip set up on the edge of an inside office balcony. It uprights the banisters in such a cool way. We are now known as the "neon house" and I'm sure we get a lot of double-takes when people drive by. It's fun changing the strip a literally infinite number of colors and it's very flat (not bulky) so you mainly see the uplight it produces not the actually strip (this was the look we were going for.

Ok, so I've been slowly expanding my Hue light system and now I'm starting to branch out into accent lighting. This is my first strip, and I'm not blown away by it, but it does do what it's intended to do. I have this on our mantle behind our decor. My wife decorates the mantle for each of the seasons and the Hue strip is accent lighting to match the season. It's a little dimmer than I thought it would be, but as an accent I guess it's fine. The new version that will be available any time now is supposed to be a little brighter, so that would probably help.
Bottom line, if you're into the Hue system, these can be a cool way to add some accent colors to your decor.

I absolutely love phillips hue, and the friends of hue products. I have several lights, including the rope, downlights, iris, standard bulb, and the bloom. Several of these I have multiple of, which goes through every room. When I turn the set on it makes a unique flow of light that goes through the entire apartment. I have not had a single problem with this product line and I would recommend it to anyone. It is amazing what you can do with lighting, if you think your house is great now just wait to see how it changes when you put in a light set like this.
