This drive has a good quality build and I like that the discs are top loaded. It feels sturdier than a lot of the other plastic case/body blu-ray drives on the market. Drive spins quietly when playing a disc. The one downside is that it doesn't come with any software and I had to fork over $150 for a good blu-ray player on Windows so that i could play all my favorite movies.

Using on a Mac. System found it instantly. You’ll need software to create dvd/brd’s. Don’t like the manual eject, but it works. No power needed that’s nice! Recommend a 3.0 USB connection. Small light and very portable. -.5 it feels flimsy. -.5 really short usb cord.

The ability to read and WRITE blue ray appealed to me as a bit of future proofing. This little drive (or the software I used with it) was buggy. When I ripped cd's WMP froze up at times. It is supposed to be compatible with Windows however it mainly marketed as an Apple device.

Nice external blu-ray player that works great with the MacBook Air. Took a bit of searching to find free software that will allow viewing of blu-ray discs. The unit did not have any software included. It plays DVD and audio CD without any extra software. Doubt if I'll ever use the blu-ray burning capabilities of the unit. Bought it mainly for watching movies when traveling.

I like this drive overall. It is a good replacement for the Apple superdrive and it actually reads a slightly scratched disk that my wife needs as a key for some software she owns that the Apple superdrive refuses to read.
My only complaint, as it is with all the Blu-Ray drives, is that it does not come with or suggest software for viewing Blu-Ray disks.

Plugged into my iMac this thing is good and fast for CD's and software uploads but I can't seem to actually find any Blu-Ray blank discs in my area yet.
So I can't really comment on how well it does for them.
When burning CD's it's very fast but it is pretty noisy when it's fully wound up,it does have quite mode watching Blu-rays but being right there I still hear a more than I'd like to,but I can hear what's happening while it's quite on screen so it's tolerable.
I read reviews of more expensive Blu-Ray Burners and this one had better reviews cheaper price and was actually in stock at my local Best Buy so Kodo's

Had no problems connecting it with my Win10 desktop. Spins up quickly and reads the disc faster than my actual Samsung Blu-ray player on my TV. It's a little loud when spinning up, but which ones aren't? It's quiet enough when watching the movie though, so no harm there. Overall, a great purchase that got the internal drive out of my machine, saving heat and space.

This Blu-Ray burner works fine and is a nice portable size. The reason I didn't rate it at 5 stars is that it did not come with a case like portable hard drives do, and it did not come with any way to store the cable it needs to operate. Both of these detract from its portability.

Recently upgraded to a newer iMac, disappointed no built in disc player. Read a lot of reviews for some of the best selling external BD players and had to go with the dependable make, features a lot of options and came with a nice price. Thank you Best Buy!

While it may appear to be the better buy of the available external blu-ray drives, it doesn't come with the software necessary to read and write discs so you end up having to buy or download something anyways. It runs a bit loud but does work well.

I was torn between this and the Apple SuperDrive. I chose this one because it's a Blu-Ray burner as well. Seems solid and overall, I've had no problems with it.
That said, I wish it would've included Blu-Ray-playing software for my Mac, but that was easily (and relatively inexpensively) gotten.

Fast Solid But Noisey Works on Mac

USB 3.0 is fast for reading (I used it to install software much faster than a USB 2.0 could) and writing. The spinning is very noisy when playing Blu-rays compared to another brand I've used. The top loader build is very solid. The silver lid matches the MacBook Pro perfectly. The Blue LED is extremely bright, larger than it needs to be, and blinks very fast quite often as it reads discs. I would tape over it with black electrical tape if it was in peripheral eyesight while playing Blu-rays or DVD's. It's that bright. I only needed to use the single USB connector not the secondary one. The 'Y' USB connector is pretty standard for these items just in case there's not enough power from a laptop. Of course you have to get Blu-ray or disc burning software separately. That's standard fare. The packing is more solid than most. It shows the Mac logo. There's no question it works. It's not exclusive though. Other brands work with Macs fine too.
