Bad brand
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. You cannot trust PNY's warranty department in my opinion. If you were to web search PNY warranty, you'll find many recent posts where users talk about how PNY will use any cosmetic damage to deny a warranty claim. Even something as small as a hairline scratch in the plastic shroud of a device. I didn't want to believe it. I had many crash issues right out of the gate, and I also had a fan that didn't sound right but it wasn't too terrible. As time went on, I was hoping driver updates would address crashes. The sound of the fan got worse as time went on. When I decided 60 days of crashes was enough, I did deep troubleshooting to document it all. I did all kinds of benchmarks, all kinds of stability software tests, and many different games. I figured out that it was an issue where the GPU wouldn't remain stable at FPS over 160, with the core chip exceeding 113w. I sent this information in. I even proved it wasn't down to my configuration, drives or other hardware. I put it in a second computer with entirely different parts, eliminating all avenues of hardware incompatibility. I even tried reformatting the original machine. I tried multiple PSUs in the new machine, some I bought, some I borrowed from friends. What does PNY's tech do? They start running through the list of means to deny the claim. The very first thing they want is clear photos of every side, and common break points, clearly they want to see physical damage so they can deny the claim. Just like I'd been warned. Despite this, I have no physical damage. So on comes the additional requests for logs (I cant provide them, as I noted in my initial RMA ticket, I reformatted my system! I recovered as many logs as I could with data recovery software and sent them in.) Questions like were in that first response that I'd already answered, too, but asked in such a way that it was clear they were already putting up great resistance to an RMA request. Finally, even if they do allow it, their policy is that if their techs can recreate the problem? Too bad. No exchange. Yet it begs the logical question; if there is nothing potentially wrong with the card, why would they be opposed to accepting it? Because if they started swapping cards between users PNY deemed "Fine" and then they did hardware damage because they were not fine, they'd be liable. Beyond that, if you need an advanced RMA, they'll send you back your broken card in many circumstances (made an excuse about why the warrant is void, or simply couldn't find the problem) and then charge you for the replacement card you received if you don't return it. I understand it if the warranty is void for a valid reason, but if the card isn't damaged but also "Fine" why force the customer to exchange a good advanced RMA replacement card for a card they had problems with, and PNY did nothing to fix? Regarding my crashes, they're known as TDR crashes. Normally, not a hardware failure... if isolated to one PC. Nvidia has had staff say in public, in multiple places, that if TDR crashes follow the graphics card across multiple different PC, it is a known failure mode present in the 5080 series and does indicate a hardware failure. Once again, that was expressed to the tech in my initial ticket, but they're not going to let me get anywhere close to an RMA until it's clear I wont give up.
