A fun and unique entry into the series that has taken an entirely new twist with its fast-paced combat. Any fan of Pokemon would likely be very entertained with just how immersive the world feels. Just know that competitive battling is much easier on Switch 2 due to its higher framerate.

    Fun Battle-Focused Spinoff

This game is more focused battles than the last Legend's game, which focused more on exploration and catching mechanics. The battle mechanics follow some of the same, but follows more of a chill MOBA style. There are also no secondary abilities, which may not be everyone's cup of tea for more the VGC hungry players, but I think it's less overwhelming for the new and more casual players to memorize. The story and characters are actually pretty well written and I even laughed out loud at some parts. Design wise, as mentioned, the game is more battle focused so a majority of the game's scenery looks fairly bland, but that's bit of a nitpick. For what it is, I think it's pretty fun. My only main complaint is the price for both systems is FAR too high for a spinoff -- you will have to shell out even more if you want the DLC. (At least it's more engaging than Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's bonus content, so that's a plus, I suppose.)

I get why a lot of people like this. I don't.

I had my doubts, significant doubts, about this game. I didn't buy Pokemon Legends: Arceus because of them. But I have completely finished my copy of Violet and wanted the newest entry. Because I love Pokemon. It hits all the things I love in a game, and I could avoid the elements I don't like (they're there, but they're not required). I started with Pokemon Gold, and I've been playing since. So, let's be clear. This is different than what I like, or what I want in a Pokemon Game. It's like Pokemon Go, only worse. There are elements I like - I like the flexibility to change moves and change names. I like the rewards for catching pokemon several times. I like some of the complexity. And there are meh things that are promising, but just don't float my boat. I like that looks aren't gender-locked, but the vast majority are feminine or genderless. I like masculine clothing. I'm sure there are other people who do. There isn't any, but there are very definite feminine outfits. Maybe it's the art style. I like that when you miss with a pokeball, you get it back. I don't like that you can miss. I like the number of quests. I don't like that so many of them are platform activities. And I hate that you can be directly attacked by pokemon. I'm at the very end of the game; and I can't complete it. Because I am really bad at hand-eye coordination. And I've gotten stuck over and over in this game because a key element of the gameplay is that you have to dodge direct attacks. I got through the game by really overleving my team (and that's easy to do, so there's that), but of course now I have a team of 90+ trying to beat the final (technically post-game) thing, and there's nowhere to level to. Yeah, the solution to my frustration is to "get good" as the kids say. But that's not my jam with Pokemon. So here's the summary: if you like platformers and games where you dodge and jump and run around the screen and you like Pokemon, you will love this game. I love Pokemon because I don't like games where you have to jump and dodge and run around to succeed, and this game ain't that. I should have bought Scarlet instead. I would have scared my cat less.

This is not going to fancy every single pokemon fan but once you go 3d for pokemon, then you are probably not going to back to turn base. The combat and item gathering is rather fun to do, it gets you exploring the main world. You require battling at night, which is where you get a day and night shift. This occurring all the time can be annoying sometimes

Pokémon Z/A delivers a fun and nostalgic experience while still introducing fresh ideas that keep the gameplay engaging. The visuals are vibrant, and the updated mechanics add a new layer to battles and exploration, even though they could use a bit more refinement. The overall atmosphere captures what makes Pokémon games so enjoyable, and the story is engaging enough to stay invested from start to finish. That said, I do wish the game leaned more into an open-world approach similar to Pokémon Legends: Arceus. While the environments are well-designed, the more structured map can feel limiting at times. A seamless open world with greater freedom to explore would have significantly improved immersion. Overall, Pokémon Z/A is a strong entry in the series but still needs a little more improvement to truly stand out. With more polished mechanics and an open-world design like Arceus, it could easily have been a five-star experience.

Longtime Pokemon fan started with pokemon yellow when I was 8 when it came out in 98. Now this one for the switch, I love the real time battles since it mirrors that of the shows. Overall I like it and wish they would make a Pokemon gold/silver/ crystal like this.

It has all the things that make for a fun Pokemon game while changing the combat in a way that makes for a satisfying gameplay loop. People will complain about the map and graphics, and some places where polish should be expected. But it is a fun game that had me emersed in the Pokemon world for the first time since I was a child playing the games on the DS.

The game is a 10/10!! It’s sooo good, honestly the best Pokemon game Nintendo has made in a long time!! Anything before I haven’t been a huge fan, but this one is just so cool. I’m only giving this review 3 stars because my experience with Best Buy’s customer service was very disappointing. They sent it through an independent delivery company that was SO UNHELPFUL. I mean, they allegedly couldn’t find me home, so they sent my package back instead of reaching out to me to give them the access code for the building… I just got a text that said “couldn’t find you, contact us”, but then when I tried to contact the delivery company they literally kept me waiting for a whole freaking hour just to tell me there was nothing they could do but to add a note and wait until they had time to attempt to deliver it again. All because the delivery guy couldn’t give me a call or text me like any reputable delivery company would ??? I had to wait like two more days for it. Anyway, I’d definitely suggest you buy it in store or for pick up to avoid all this hassle.

Great game, lots of trainer battles, battles are in real time now which is really fun, takes about 40-45 hours to finish the main story, which is the average length of Pokemon games, boss battles are really fun, you can use in game collectable items called colorful screws to buy plushes that give you permanent boosts like experience boost and easier Pokemon catch rates, those two are the best boosts, the other few aren't as useful, there are also tasks you complete in the game like catching different amount of each type of Pokemon in the game or battling trainers, which unlocks rewards like TMs and other random items and you have to complete all the tasks to get the shiny charm which doesn't help with anything good in the game other than making it easier to find shiny Pokemon, by the time you complete all the tasks you already caught all the Pokemon in the game, overall this is a great game and I highly recommend the game.

It’s a pretty fun game to play casually. Easy gameplay and you don’t have to grind as much. Haven’t played a Pokemon game since FireRed and LeafGreen so a lot of the stuff and fluff is new to me. There are a few parts that are wack but overall I’m enjoying it so far.

The game itself is a lot of fun and that's why we play Pokemon. It doesn't include any new Pokemon, just new Mega evolutions. The game takes place in Lumiose City, the same location as the original X and Y games. I wish there was more of a catching aspect to the game, but overall it's still fun.

I was disappointed by the lack of co-op raid battles, but it’s fun to explore and battle in the city, including the climbing and puzzles. The real time action is an interesting departure from turn based, and works well, though gives opportunities to cheese enemies too. The lack of Pokemon abilities was a little disappointing.

I've enjoyed my playthrough of Pokémon Z-A. I've been a long time fan of Pokémon. The new mechanics were a good shake up of the old battle system. My main complaint would be I miss being able to travel through a whole region instead of just one big map. Otherwise, I would recommend this game to other Pokémon fans.

Regardless of what people want to say, this game is a lot of fun. Original Switch version has a little bit of slow loading here and there and render distance makes things in the distance have slower frame rates, but... it's stuff in the distance.
