While this movie is similar to the original, it is different enough to still enjoy. The clown scene is still my favorite...very creepy scene. It's not the same with the girl named Maddie, though. Run to the light, Maddie? It doesn't have the same ring to it, does it? Ha.

They actually did a decent job on this creepy remake. I was surprised by that as most remakes are miserable flops. They made a few changes from the original but that kept the movie from being a carbon copy (boring) of the original. It added a small element of surprise.

This remake is better than many people think. It's done in the same style as the original, and the cast does a good job. Release reviews were unfair, and people shouldn't make up their minds in advance. If you liked the original, you will probably enjoy this one too.

While this movie was no where near as scary as the original, it does have it's own merits. The acting was okay and the story was altered enough to keep it fresh. The son's attic room provided for some of the more scary scenes... especially with the eerie clown!

Though the original movie looks a little "dated" now, I still enjoy it a bit more than this re-make. The "special effects" do show a big improvement over the original, but I still think the first version carried a little more "heart and feeling" for me.

Good depth and some pop on the 3D. I found this movie more enjoyable than most remakes. Still not as good as the original of course, but a worthwhile purchase for a fan of scares and 3D.

I love the original Poltergeist released in 1982. This newest version does not deviate much from the original (which is good). But I found the chemistry of the family members was lacking. Still, it is a good ghost story movie.

I love the horror genre so any chance to view one in 3 D was just too much to pass up. I gave it an average rating as it really was just an OK movie even in 3 D. The earlier version many years ago was more scary and more powerful. The production and filming were very good but the adult parents were not convincing. The children actors were more believable than the adults. 3 D gave it an extra star because I love the 3 D effects. Save your money and find the older version.

First, yes. In comparison to the original Poltergeist, the remake sucks. It's hard to compete with something that realized and commented on its time so well. That said, part of the major problem with the theatrical version of the remake is that it never really took any chances in terms of its presentation. The extended cut does a bit better of a job with taking chances. The extended cut is a far better version than what the theatergoing audience got.

Everything about this movie should be familiar to fans of the original, but the part that makes it stand out (like Evil Dead remake) is that it's a similar situation but with "new" characters. No one is the same person as the original.

Let me be frank, there is NO WAY I would have bought this blu ray if it was flat 2D only. Extra dimensions enhance the experience, making a fairly intense movie much more realistic. 3D scenes aren't as strong as 'Comin At Ya' or 'it Came From Outer Space' but they are still good in their own right. A couple of extra gimmicky pop outs wouldn't have hurt though. I enjoyed the story and could never imagine re-watching this in 2D. Viewed on Samsung Active panel and again on a 120" projector screen.

In watching Poltergeist, I could not help but compare it to the original. I believe this remake to be a decent effort and a good movie. While not as good as the original, I recommend this movie for those wanted to see decent remakes.

I wasn't sure about how this was going to be since this is a remake but it was surprisingly good. If you haven't seen the original it's ok because it's a re telling of the story.

Movie was what I expected, which is a problem. I thought the clown scene with the boy could have been more intense, I was also disappointed with the way the little girl went to the other side, I did like the ghost chasers , I really enjoyed Jared Harris in his role, he never disappoints, I could recommend this movie to a limited group of friends but not all horror fans, great visual effects, and the visual to the other side was awesome.

I would have given this movie 3 stars, but the 3D bumped it up to 4. If I had not seen and loved the original, I would like this movie more. Very rare a remake is better than the original. Overall it was a good movie.

Always keen for a horror classic remake, especially if Sam Raimi is involved, I'm a big fan of the original Poltergeist and I appreciated the remake for what it was, good to watch during the Halloween season.

I've read the negative reviews and I must say, this is a good movie. It's not the original and remakes don't bother me. If you want an updated take on the movie, sit back and enjoy this movie for what it is.

This was probably one of those movies that really didn't need to be rebooted, specially because you knew it wasn't ever going to be anywhere as good as the original movie which is a classic in my book. With that said, what they put out wasn't all that bad.. as expected it didn't live up to the original but for fans of horror, there is probably enough here that you can at least enjoy watching it once
