Apparently, this is the 14th installment in the Atelier series and I'm just now getting involved with it! I purchased Atelier Totori and Rorona as well, but I stopped a little into Totori because it's a direct sequel to Rorona. If I've got them, I want to make sure to play them in order!
Atelier Ayesha is about a young girl named Ayesha who is an apothecary. She lives in a workshop in the middle of nowhere making medicine which she sells to help people out. Her little sister, Nio, went missing two years ago and no one knows what happened to her. During a trip to the makeshift grave that was resurrected for her, an image of Nio appeared in front of her amidst a field of glowing flowers. After a short while of being unable to interact with her, the image dispersed into thin air. A mysterious man named Keith then appears to tell Ayesha that her sister isn't dead, but it's up to her to save her by using the powers of alchemy.
Any game that has a solid RPG feel to it along with an obvious Asian influence is bound to nab my attention at some point. After seeing these games and then finally playing them, I've fallen in love. By no means is this game difficult. I beat the last boss on the fly in the first attempt. No weapon forging or ultimate weapons like I've seen in some guides. The real thing that can cause you to fail is by not managing the time correctly. You have 3 years to complete the game, otherwise Nio is lost forever. This game has lots in favor for it such as:
Pros: Fun storyline. The game tries not to get too depressing over the fact that Nio might be dead or something else.
Enjoyable characters: There's not a single character that I disliked in the story. They've all got little quirks about them which can just make you laugh. Ayesha is incredibly naive which leads to her being teased a lot.
Good battle system. The combat is a very simple turn-based battle system. Your characters can boost or support each other in battle. Ayesha is the only one that can actually use items so it's up to her to keep the others alive should you get into a tight spot.
Replayable: Once you beat the game/3 years are up, then you have the option to start a new+ game which will carry over your money, weapons/armor, and also your synthesis spells. As the game has multiple different endings, this is a great feature!
The only cons I could list would be that the graphics aren't the greatest, but I enjoyed them nonetheless. Also, the game can be almost too happy/cheesey. It's all in what you make out of it, but I'm glad that I bought it and I'll be playing it back through for every ending possible.
