I'm pretty sure I already reviewed this purchase (somehow using the same member account but a different nickname) but if they're going to give me double the rewards points... here goes.
I find the story really interesting and engaging, though the dialogue can be silly at times. Silliness doesn't bother me, but I'm just putting that out there in case it's not your thing. I'm occasionally frustrated during trials where it seems like a particular piece of evidence will show a contradiction in witness testimony just as well as another piece of evidence, but this is forgivable as the general gameplay is enjoyable. The puzzles generally only take a minute or two to solve, so I wish there were more!

A FANTASTIC GAME FOR FANS OF EITHER SERIES

Before playing this game I was completely unfamiliar with the Professor Layton series and how it played. But I figured since this game was on sale at my store at least it will have Phoenix Wright sections in it which I am a fan of. I will say after playing the Layton sections that are find its and puzzles I am easily a fan of Layton games now and will buy any in the future. Not to mention the story which completely shocked and surprised me from beginning to end with some parts being hilarious and other parts being tragic. I am beyond happy I took a chance on this little 3DS gem and if you can get it I highly advise you to. Both series are fantastic puzzle/find it/who done it games in their own respects and this game is certainly no different.

Although this game doesn't offer nearly enough play time or special features as a standalone Professor Layton or Ace Attorney game would offer, I believe PLvsAA does a great job of combining the best of each games into a single collaboration. The game itself does seem more Latyon-esque however, especially in terms of story and overall gameplay.

The game is good if you love both prof Layton and ace attorney games. I feel it is more of a prof. Layton game with ace attorney thrown on than a split. I have definitely enjoyed ace attorney dual destinies more just from the demo than all of the court stuff in this game.
You jump back and forth between the 2 game styles. It's a decent story, but it is rather long. You will probably never run out of hint coins which are nice to have for puzzles and the court sections. I never feel like I know what they want me to do in the attorney portions. It might make sense to me, but the game does not want me to show that evidence or whatnot.
I've played about 11 hours into the game and I've lost interest. That's about half way through.
There isn't anything game breakingly bad, I just personally have found other more interesting things to do.

Fun intro to Prof. Layton, lite for Phoenix Wright

I have played all the Ace Attorney games before, but no Professor Layton games. The puzzles of the Professor Layton parts were fun, and the story was very interesting, with lots of great extras. Now, the trials were short and not as good as what you get with the other Ace Attorney games, but there were a couple of new features that were pretty cool and required some different strategy.
As I understand it, anyone who is a big fan of one or the other may find the game light on the franchise they prefer, and it might leave those who are fans of both disappointed, but while it might not be a five-star game, it is still worth the purchase, if only not for a few nice surprises.

I'm a big fan of the Phoenix Wright series so when I heard that they were doing a cross over with Layton, I had to pick this up. Despite reading a few bad reviews, I was going to purchase this game anyway. This really is a great game and is a must buy if you are trying to figure out what games to buy with a new 3DS.

There are many zany cross over games that many series have, but rarely some that just makes sense and actually compliment each other. PLvsPW actually works in both the mechanics of each others games and as a game. While the story is something of a fan-fiction, it is believable in terms of each series past endeavors. If you like either of the series I do encourage you to give it a go.

I admit I was skeptical about how these two very different gameplays would work together, as well as what would pit the two titular characters against one another. As it turns out, the two styles of gameplay compliment each other rather nicely. The investigations are carried out Professor Layton style (no matter who you're controlling), with you moving from scene to scene, using your magnifying glass cursor to uncover hint coins, puzzles (which are just as engrossing as they ever were), and the occasional clue.
As for the trial sections, those are for the most part in keeping with the traditional Ace Attorney gameplay. However, while you do have witness testimony to pick apart and some evidence (what little you found yourself and what's revealed to you by the Inquisitors (prosecution), these trials are more medieval is style, which means no forensics, no photographs (courtroom sketches only), and 90% of the time the accused isn't allowed to speak for themselves or risk an immediate guilty verdict. Instead, your main weapon of defense is that you're often questioning multiple witness at the same time, and as such their stories stories might have one or more details that conflict with how one of the others remembers things. By pointing out these inconsistencies, the false details fall away, leaving you free to point out the truth of what really happened. And in case you're wondering, the hint coins you've collected during the investigation phase don't go to waste here. If you get stuck on figuring out where the witness conflict lies, what to present to show they're lying or whatnot, then you can use the hint coins here (assuming you haven't sued them up on the puzzles). By doing so, some of the wrong answers are taken away Who Wants to Be A Millionaire "lifeline" style, reducing the chances you'll present or say the wrong thing, which would earn you a penalty and lower your credibility as well as the piccarat value of completing that day's case.
Of course the best gameplay in the world won't make up for a weak storyline (unless it's a mindless shooter) and Layton VS Wright doesn't disappoint. A mysterious book linked to an equally mysterious town, tales of magic and witch-trials that seem ripped straight of the history of Salem itself, all of it woven together in such a way that only the team-up of such unique and gifted individuals as Phoenix Wright and Professor Layton can set things right. And for anyone who might be missing the presence of Wright's original rival Miles Edgeworth, by the main story's end Layton proves himself a competent stand-in. The animation and voice acting is first rate as well.
In all, this was an excellent melting pot of ideas that mixed well. In fact, I wouldn't mind a sequel to this crossover, thought the likelihood of multi-witness cross-examination is unlikely to be repeated. I'd recommend this title to anyone who enjoyed either of the core series, or to anyone who likes to be entertained while having their deduction processes challenged. Two thumbs up!

Phoenix Wright and Professor Layton provide some of the best experiences to be had over the past two generations of portable Nintendo hardware. The crossover makes perfect sense due to the similar themes and play styles the two franchises share.

Combines whacky characters from ace attorney with riddles from profesor layton.
The charm of both games is well represented. However, the setting and story aren't as good as previous installments of either series.
The difficulty is also reduced and that may put some veterns off.

I haven't completely the game yet, but I have played it about 10 hours or so. Without spoiling too much of the storyline, I will mostly summarize the gameplay. As for the storyline, I don't believe its horrible, but I think its good not extremely amazing but just good.
At certain points of the story, you will be solving varies puzzles and exploring in a mysterious town called Labyrinthia. When the time comes, you will be switching from solving puzzles and exploring to cross-examining witnesses in court. If you've played the ace attorney series in the past, you'll be familiar with the gameplay mechanics.
However, there is a new twist for you ace attorney players. If you think you can use the same old fashioned way from the previous ace attorney games, you're wrong. I will only say this: try cross-examine multiple witnesses at the same time.
Aside from that, for those who played the Professor Layton series, the gameplay in this game should be very familiar to you. However, this is my first entry into the Professor Layton series. This game has left a good impression on me.
If you like this type of game or new to the Professor Layton series, I would say buy it and give it a try. If you're a fan of both the Professor Layton and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney series, you will like this. However, If you're a fan for only just one of them and hate the other, then perhaps this game not for you.

Take 2 amazing games and combine them to get hours of fun game play. I'll say that it is a worthy sequel of sorts but can't say much in terms of game play without giving away too much.
