The game was awesome. It implemented good themes from both Professor Layton and Phoenix Wright Games. Nothing seemed out of place and the new story board really connected the two. I hope there is a sequel for this game!

It's a really nice game, but it's like a 2 flavor cake, with one entire half being a single flavor and the other half being another. Layton's mechanics and Phoenix's mechanics barely blend together, just one franchise interrupts another every once in a while. Sure, you can use hint coins to help point out contradictions, but it's not like you get to find evidence or interrogate witnesses as Layton and Luke (you barely do that as Phoenix Wright and Maya in this) while solving puzzles simultaneously. Loving the soundtrack, albeit it's just orchestrated versions of older Professor Layton and Phoenix Wright games. Then again, it was a launch title in Japan 2 years ago. Would have been lower if it weren't for the $30 price point as opposed to the usual $40 price fr a 3DS game. Still, it's a very nice title for what you're paying for and the diehard Layton fans (like me) and Ace Attorney fans will definitely enjoy this game.

If you love the 2 franchises, you will love the mashup. Puzzles are on par and the courtroom drama is what you expect from the previous games - FUN! Reason for the 3 star rating however is that it is very wordy. Way too much dialogue. I found myself not caring about the story and just pressing A to get through all the talk.

I am a huge Prof Layton fan and recently started playing the Ace Attorney games as well. This seemed like a great new addition to both franchises since the games would be able to stray outside of their roots and try new things. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Rather than mash the two game styles together, it simply switches between them. Solve some riddles, go into the courtroom, riddles, courtroom, etc. They also simplified both game types, presumably to make transitioning between them easier. While this will undoubtedly make it easier on newcomers, it makes for a less than stellar version for fans of the series. It's not horrible by any means, but it would rank as the worst for either series. For anyone new to these games though, it's a fantastic introduction. With that said, seeing these characters in this new setting is completely intriguing and enough to push this game above its mediocre game play.

Do you like the Professor Layton games? Do you like the Ace Attorney games? If you answered yes to one of those questions, then you should seriously consider getting this game. If you answered yes to both (like me) then this is a no-brainer. While the different gameplay elements don't quite mesh and it feels like two separate games played at the same time, that's certainly not a problem. The story and characters are very well written and stay in-character based on their previous, individual games. And absolute blast, I just wish we didn't have to wait so long to get this game in the United States. Better late than never!
