Vast Improvement on Your Basic Electric Toothbrush

My family is familiar with the Quip brand. But this will be the first one we’ve tried that works along with an App. We love this kid-friendly bright and cheerful yellow color. And the Quip was packaged awesomely. Although the ‘slip cover’ is part of the overall design and can be used as a stand, the plastic tube that the toothbrush comes in, could also be used as an extra secure travel case. Just an idea. I went ahead and mounted my Quip on the bathroom mirror with the attached sticky strip. I wanted to try this child’s size out for myself as my mouth tends to be a bit small (for an adult) and I prefer a particular size and shape of toothbrush. It worked well for my specific needs. I truly did feel a difference after a brushing cycle. My gums felt stimulated, and the surface of my teeth clean and smooth when running my tongue over them. As for how the Quip performed ... the vibration of the toothbrush in your hand wasn’t bothersome at all, as some of the traditional electric toothbrushes I’ve owned, have been. The matte texture of the rubberized plastic provides a good gripping surface. Plus, the back side of the brush head has a tongue cleaner, too, which is nice. The softness, texture, and material of the ‘bristles’ was quite pleasant. There are soft rubber outer bristles, and the usual type in the inner area, both designed to better clean your teeth and gums. One of the key features of the Quip toothbrushes, is timing how long you spend brushing in each of the four quadrants of your mouth - for every 30 seconds of brushing, a small vibration alerts you to move on to another. The app was under-whelming. While being a helpful tool to go along with the Quip Smart Toothbrush, you could still use it without just as well. The App has some basic info and tips. Seeing your daily activity and earning rewards are cool features, especially fun for the kids, at least at first, until the novelty wears off. Not meaning to sound negative here, just saying what would typically happen. And the price is right. Auto-shipment replacement heads and batteries are a great deal, too. Which makes it easy to switch out the brush heads when you should, every three months. The Quip line of Smart Electric Toothbrushes are great! Get one, or two, or ... however many, for the entire family. :)

Good Electric Toothbrush, But Poor App Performance

My wife and I have always had a difficult time inspiring our son to brush his teeth. He is now old enough to brush on his own, but he often doesn't brush for the right amount of time. We have used YouTube videos to make brushing fun, but they can be distracting and he ends up spending his time singing, or simply forgets to brush thoroughly. With this Quip Kid's brush he's proud to have his own electric toothbrush (like mom and dad) and he knows how long to brush, and understands how much time he needs to devote to each area of his mouth (even when were are not monitoring the process). The problem is that our brush will not connect to the Mobile Application. I have worked with customer support, but after their limited troubleshooting could not solve the connection problems - we were told to simply wait until an new version of the App is available (and even then there is no guarantee that the brush will connect to the app). After further investigation, it doesn't appear as though the App is all that valuable. It will track how often the brush is used, but it doesn't seem to be able to show if the user brushed various parts of the mouth, etc. (as the brush does not have any accelerometer built in). The brush could cost less if the Bluetooth was not included. Quip could have simply posted their tips to YouTube and it would have had the same effect. I also have mixed feelings about the subscription model in place for the replacement heads. The subscription fee is fairly low, but I can't help but feel as though I am paying more to get less (than if I were to simply to buy a disposable toothbrush). Every 3 months Quip will deliver a brush head and a AAA battery - but I wish I could simply buy the brush heads all at once and avoid the subscription. The warranty is also dependent upon singing up for the subscription. The brush does work perfectly fine, and I like the innovation of a case that doubles as a toothbrush holder - but I don't feel as though this brush stands out from the many other electric toothbrushes that are available. I have no problem recommending the brush itself, but I don't feel as though the app will bring any worthwhile value.

    Good motivation for kids

This has worked well and has provided some extra motivation for my kid to brush more regularly and better each time. The sticky strip which allows the brush holder to stick to a mirror is good, but it's not good enough to stay when a young kid is trying to get the brush back in. Got it as DoTD, so a pretty good value. Setup was very easy, and the app shows how well he's brushing: the duration, the amount of time spent on top and bottom, the number of strokes, and the intensity.

An inexpensive electric toothbrush for my kid that not only works well, but tracks when and how he brushes. I checked the app after he was done and it even kept track of which side of the mouth he spent more time on. No clue how it did it, but that kind of info is great for a child just learning how to brush properly. The subscription plan for brush heads can't be beat either. It is $5, every 3 months (plus $2 for shipping). You get a new brush head and a new AAA battery as well. Well worth it!

wonder no more if your kids did a good job or if they are on schedule washing their teeth. When you pair this with the app it will tell me how long, at what time and what teeth (top or bottom) they are washing correctly. This is priceless!

A Good Way to Learn About Oral Hygiene

A simple but effective design, Quip offers both a lesson in oral hygiene and a timed sonic vibration to massage your gums and help clean your teeth. The Smart Electric Toothbrush is cleverly designed and packaged. It comes with a multi-use slotted cover, a removable and replaceable brush head, and is powered by a battery. This particular model is equipped with a smart motor that operates for 2 minutes in 30-second pulses to massage and to brush all quadrants of your teeth. The Bluetooth Smart Motor connects to an app that can track your daily brushing, coach you, teach you to learn about oral hygiene, and help one formulate better oral health habits. The design of the toothbrush considers the need for air to thoroughly dry the brush and the multi-use cover has double face mounting tape that can safely attach the brush to many surfaces around the lavatory sink for drying and to be ready for the next brushing. I have been using the top to the tube the brush is packaged in, and that too has been designed to act as a stand for the handle. For $5.00 the owner of the brush can request a refill that comes every 3 months with a new brush head and battery. One of the perks in purchasing your Quip brush is that you will find a coupon enclosed within the toothbrush packaging that will provide your first refill for free. The Quip app is free and available for android and iPhone users. It is designed around the cognitive abilities of a small child and if a parent is willing, will help the parent teach and guide the child to life-long positive oral health habits. The app coaches and teaches while also providing the reasoning behind the why. One of the attributes of the app is that the child can also earn reward points. Present reward offers include a Target gift cards and a refill credit. These rewards are earned based on recording 2 – 2-minute brushings per day with a Bluetooth paired Quip brush to the app. The app records the date, time, and duration of brushings. An oral health blog that covers topics that would interest all ages is also included in the app. I have a small mouth and have always used a child’s toothbrush. Although I think this is a good product for a child or as a supplement to another form of brushing, It doesn’t leave my mouth with any kind of sparkling clean feeling that I am accustomed to having at least twice a day. I do think that it is a great alternative to a basic toothbrush, and I am using mine throughout the day when I am away from home because it is very easy to carry in a backpack or purse and it is very functional for this purpose. Quip is a good concept and offers a good program that can be very valuable for children. I do recommend it, especially over a basic toothbrush.

This is a really neat looking toothbrush, first and foremost. I mean, it’s a toothbrush so how neat can it look, right? Well, this proves that you can do something new and fresh with even the oldest and most limited designs. The all yellow color is excellent, the feel of the brush is comfy and just ever so squishy, and the case, packaging and entire experience is great from a design standpoint. Except the app. It’s always the software, isn’t it? I’m sure they’ll iron out the kinks over time but it simply doesn’t refresh and sync as easily or quickly as it should. Sometimes the refresh button just doesn’t do anything. And how exactly does one one improve their brush intensity rating? That said, all these data points make it a more interesting game to my seven year old so that’s a win. And the built in 2 minute timer is perfect. I don’t even want the option to change that, you turn the brush on and it turns itself off in two minutes. Simple pimple One other quibble. The holder comes with a sticky back that is supposed to make it possible to essentially hang it on a wall. Good luck with that. Even with a lot of pressure we have not been successful getting that to stay solidly on any surface, wall or sink. And I’d expect that over time, assuming that time was longer than a day. Which is when we started having issues with this. So, great toothbrush! Couple little annoyances. Fairly pricey. Your call.

So far, so good. My son has a problem telling the truth when he brushes his teeth, so this tells us all the info we need to let us know he's actually doing it. The key is to not tell your kids that this tracks that info.
