As someone who’s a bit obsessive about audio quality, I wasn’t expecting the RIG R5 to deliver this level of performance at its price point. The sound signature is remarkably balanced....crisp highs, warm mids, and punchy, well-controlled bass that doesn’t overwhelm the mix. You can actually distinguish layers in the audio. Footsteps, game effects, and chat all sit clearly where they should, creating a soundstage that feels genuinely immersive.
The build also surprised me. It’s lightweight yet feels solid, and the comfort is excellent for extended gaming or music sessions. The mic is clear and unobtrusive, and all my friends love how clear I sound.
If you’re someone who appreciates detail, clarity, and comfort, the RIG R5 punches well above its class. Easily one of the best sounding headsets you’ll find anywhere near this price.

The Unsung Hero of Immersive Gameplay

Overview
This headset feels like the rare find you stumble on and immediately want to tell your friends about. The RIG R5 SPEAR PRO HS is a wired gaming headset that balances comfort, sound, and durability at a price that doesn’t make you wince. It doesn’t try to be flashy; it just gets the essentials right and then some.
Comfort and Fit
If you play for hours, comfort matters more than specs. The headstrap sits lightly on your head and avoids the pressure points that give you a headache after long sessions. The headset is lightweight yet sturdy and the ear cups are plush enough to form a good seal that blocks outside noise while staying comfortable.
Sound Performance
The audio is the real surprise here. The surround sound gives you clear directional cues so you can hear footsteps and in-game details wherever it comes from. It won’t replace a high-end audiophile setup, but for gaming it delivers precise, immersive sound that feels well beyond its price.
Design and Durability
What stands out is the modular approach. You can swap ear cups and side plates which extends the headset’s life and lets you personalize the look. The materials and build quality feel solid and premium, making this headset look and feel more expensive than it actually is.
Practical Notes
Being wired means no batteries and no mid-game power worries. It works smoothly with PS5 and PS4 and the inline volume slider on the cable is a small but very useful touch. The microphone is flexible and easy to position. Its voice quality is serviceable for team chat but not the headset’s strongest feature.
Final Verdict
If you want a comfortable, well-built headset with accurate surround sound and customization options without spending a fortune, this is a smart pick. It’s a great value for casual and competitive gamers who care about comfort and clear in-game audio.
Pros
- Exceptional comfort
- Precise surround sound
- Modular design for easy upgrades
- Solid build quality
- Very affordable
Cons
- Microphone audio quality could be better

Amazing sound quality for the price!

Amazing headset for the price! I can't believe they made so many good things with it and kept the price so low. First, the drivers are graphene coated and the tuning is amazing. The bass and sub bass is great, but clear, the mids are great and the treble is great without being hurtful. They really nail the tuning on these drivers. Comfort is amazing too, they use a soft fabric with memory foam on the earpads and also on the headrest. Very soft and comfy and breathable too. I use them with glasses and they are super comfy. I like the mic can be flipped up to mute it. Its very flexible too, so you can bend it and move it around to fit your needs.
The only con I can see is the the cable is not removable, so care must be taken, as if it goes bad, there is no replacing it. The cable also has an inline volume level. It uses a TRRS plug so apart from working with a PS5 controller, you can actually use them with any device that as support for both mic and headphones via that plug. The ear cups have replaceable cups that attach via magnets, they feel great and the included ones are PS logos, but they are going to sell more logos I guess and you can 3D print your own.
Great value for the price!!!

I've had the pleasure of owning and gaming with the RIG R5 Spear Pro HS wired headset for about 5 days now. I was initially pretty impressed with the build and feel of these headphones. I think the removable magnetic Playstation Logo covers are a little "extra" and redundant. They don't come pre installed, they will cover up another logo if you choose to put them on. Personally I think they look a little better without them. I suppose you can customize the headset if you choose, at least you have the option. For me what matters most in a headset is sound quality and comfort. These headphones are quite comfortable, for long gaming sessions. The padding is soft and plush yet sturdy. I have a large head and they sit perfectly comfortable on my head and ears. My ears or head never really fatigued with these on for a few hours. I appreciate the flip up to mute function of the microphone boom. No need to fiddle around looking for a button or slider to mute your microphone. Very convenient. The headband is also comfortable, the pad on it is nice and squishy. Overall, I think the build quality is quite premium for its price range. It seems like it is built to last.
Sound quality is decent. I think I was expecting them to blow my mind. You have to really crank the volume on these to get the most out of it, which I suppose is fine unless you plan on chatting with friends while gaming. You'll be screaming while chatting with these on if you gotta max the volume to get a more immersive sound. They have a nice balanced sound. I played some battlefield 6 with them for a few hours and nothing really stood out. (Which isn't a bad thing). Sometimes you get this awful digital sounding gunfire with some gaming headsets. I would say these made the game sound a little more "real" than others Ive tested. Gun fire and vehicles sounded clear and realistic. Where these fall a little short for me was during "explosions". I was expecting loud bangs and thuds. But I can't knock them, they sound good. I would gladly buy these again, for myself or to gift to a friend with a PS5. Don't let the 4 star review steer you away. I just didn't give them a 5 star because they aren't "perfect". They are quite basic, especially when it comes to connectivity and controls and sometimes that's ok.
No bells and whistles, just great sound and comfort. If you're looking at these , get them. I think you'll like them.

No Sweat and Super Comfortable Wired PSx Headset

This wired pair is perfect for long gaming sessions while maintaining comfort with the cloth ear pads (no sweat) and memory foam (super comfortable). The sound is really designed for high tier gaming and especially foot steps without being too bass heavy.
The main thing with gaming headsets to me is comfort and with these having the cloth ear pads with memory foam make them extremely comfortable. The headband on top is also packed with memory foam making it no produce a hot spot while wearing for long periods of time. It is able to fit almost any head size from small to large with the adjustable headband as well.
The construction makes for a nice and light experience while the whole snap lock mod plate set for the ear cups makes you able to have or not have the included Playstation branded plates on or customize yourself which is a cool touch. The mic is permanently attached and flips up out of the way when not in use to mute.
Since this is designed for use specifically with the PS5 the impedance rating is correct to really drive these and have full sound from the controller. The only downside is that the cable is kind of noisy when moving around your shirt and stuff but not TOO bad. Speaking of the cord there is a nice built in volume slider on it to control your sound without needing to use game settings which is greatly appreciated.
Very happy overall with the sound, it’s not too bass heavy like some and provides really good midrange making footsteps excellent in FPS games. The performance and especially the comfort of this gaming headset is second to none for the price point it’s an amazing value.

Budget headset with superb sound for gaming

RIG R5 SPEAR PRO HS Wired Over-The-Ear Gaming Headset for Playstation 4 & Playstation 5 is priced as a budget headset but has a great sound. With its memory foam headband and ear cushions, they are comfortable. They feature a 3.5mm connection only. These are officially licensed for PlayStation, but they can be used with anything that supports that 3.5mm connection - Playstation, XBox, PC etc. As I write this review, I am listening to Spotify on my PC with this headset plugged in (the only way to use them). For this purpose, the quality is fine but not optimal. The sound is by far superior when using these with my PS5. With their 40mm graphene drivers and Tempest 3D audio, the sound is absolutely immersive. These also feature a flip to mute microphone and an inline volume control.
These do make use of the RIG SNAP + LOCK swappable Mod-Plates and ear cushions which allow you to easily change and personalize your headset with the use of magnets. I think that it is great to have that option for those interested in making those types of changes. They do include one mod-plate with these headphones, with the Sony PS logo. Personally, I like the headphones better without the plate. It's just a personal preference.
Overall, the RIG R5 Spear PRO HS Wired Over-The-Ear Gaming Headset for Playstation 4 & Playstation 5 provides outstanding sound when used with my PS5 and okay sound when used with my PC. For the price, these are exceptional and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them especially to someone looking for a quality headset for PS4 or PS5 game play.

The headset right out of the box looks and feels much better than I expected. I like wireless headphones but having to charge them or running out of battery could slow me down so having a wired connection is more secured and one less thing to charge.
The RIG R5 has a cool, modern and sleek look, and the wire is long enough as well as well built.
When it comes to sound, the 40mm graphene drivers do deliver great sound, makes every game sound real and with the enhanced 3d audio accuracy, it sounds like you are there, in the middle of the action.
The microphone does not fall behind, it works well, and everyone can hear me well. The 6mm microphone has a great range and it does sound crisp, best of all, it flips to mute and once I am ready, flip down and keep playing.
One thing I did not think I would like is the personalization when the mod plates can be changed so I could buy as many as I want to keep my headset looking fresh.
The headset plays well with PlayStation 4 and 5, and it does not need anything other than plug and done.

Perfect Wired Headset for Competitive Gaming

I got the RIG R5 Spear Pro HS because I wanted a wired headset for my PS5 that didn’t feel like a cheap throwaway. I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks, and to be honest it’s way more impressive than I expected.
First thing I noticed is the sound quality is really clean. The 40 mm "graphene" drivers give it a nice punchy feel. footsteps, gunshots, reloads in FPS games are super distinct. It’s tuned for competitive shooters, so I feel like I can hear positional stuff better than with my old headset. The distortion is barely there (the specs say <0.5% THD), which means audio stays sharp even when things get loud.
It’s officially licensed for PlayStation, which is a huge plus. It supports Tempest 3D Audio on PS5, and that 3D spatial feeling is legit when you’re playing. Game sounds feel more immersive. The wired 3.5 mm connection is super convenient: I plug into my controller or PC, and it just works no lag, no messing around.
The mic is really solid as well. It flips up to mute, which is super handy. When I talk in party chat, people say I sound clear and natural. The metal-mesh pop filter helps cut down on background noise, so my voice doesn’t get lost or sound fuzzy when someone’s talking behind me.
Comfort-wise, this thing wins. The headband is soft-touch, and the memory foam cushions are cozy, even on long sessions. I don’t feel like my ears are getting crushed. Plus, there’s a mod-plate system (called SNAP+LOCK) so you can swap out the earcups or cushion designs if you want to customize or replace them later.
The build quality feels well made for the price. Not super premium, but lightweight and sturdy enough for serious gaming. The cable is 1.5 m long, which is enough for me, and there’s an inline volume control so I can crank it up or down without pulling up my system menu every time.
If there’s a nitpick, I’d say the bass could be a little deeper it’s good but doesn’t rumble like some bigger, more expensive headsets. Also, if you really want ultra-rich low-end thump, you might wish for more. But for most games, this is more than enough.
Overall, I’m really pleased with this headset. If you’re looking for a wired, reliable, really good-sounding headset for PlayStation, this is a super smart buy.

Decent headphones

I really like the acoustics of these headphones specifically for talking while I’m playing video games. There’s often times where the person that I am talking to is muddled and I can’t understand completely so having these headphones and allowing me to hear actually helps me play better.
These are really just a simple headset so don’t expect anything fantastic like the higher end headphones.
Of course I always prefer the black color over white because my hair tends to soul the top of the headphones.
The microphone bend is just enough not to have that puffy noise when I talk. So I like the head phone and it captures my voice pretty well.
And I’ve asked others how I sound and they don’t notice any issues.
The PlayStation headphone ear cover isn’t necessary but it a cool feature. I chose to not have them on. I’ve stored them away. No loyalty to PlayStation in that regard.
The point is these headphones are good but not great and I think they get the job done.
Don’t take my word for it. Try it yourself

The R5 Pro HS headphones are a great entry-level set that feels reliable and sounds surprisingly good. I’ve enjoyed quite a bit about these, but there are also a couple things worth mentioning.
Comfort wise, they’re lightweight, adjustable, and easy to wear for long sessions. The ear cushions use memory foam, but they aren’t quite as soft or plush as I expected. The fabric around them feels a little scratchy to me, which is my biggest comfort gripe. The headband on the other hand is very light and doesn’t press down hard at all, and because these weigh so little, it’s pretty easy to forget you’re even wearing them.
Sound Quality, these sound fantastic. The audio is clean, crisp, and very balanced, and you can use them for music or gaming by plugging into the 3.5 mm jack on your PC. However, you won’t be able to use the microphone on a typical desktop unless you have a TRRS splitter, since PCs generally separate audio and mic into two jacks (green / red). Although, some laptops do support combo jacks, so not all hope is lost if you want to use them for your computer too. The mic itself picks up a good range of pitch and sounds clear when used on PlayStation.
Customization - The magnetic ear-cup plates are a fun idea and perfect for limited-edition game promotions, which I’ve always loved. I also really like that the mic mutes automatically when you raise the boom, and the inline volume control on the cable is really handy.
All in all, these are great headphones for the price and give you a lot of value. My only real nuisances are the slightly scratchy ear pads and the fact that the mic boom doesn’t pivot to the right side, so you’re locked into using it on the left. Other than that, it’s a great sounding lightweight headset that at a really good price.

Comfort is a huge thing for me when it comes to headsets. The RIG R5 deliver right out the gate on the comfort aspect. The head band is so soft and the ear cups wear so nice I didn't notice the headset after playing hours of BF6.
The wired aspect didn't bug me as was very simple and wasn't intrusive to my experience of using them over the long period of time. What I will say is the build quality was actually very well done. I always seem to have headsets that break wither at the cup are or in the headband area. The materials are strong mixture and lightweight.
One thing about the sound, they do pick up a lot of the smaller sounds in BF6. Now in Arc Raiders, when night mode in game is turned on wow, just wow. The sounds quality is booming, crystal clear and those small sounds is amazing. I heard breaches occurring and the enemies more precisely.
Overall I really enjoyed these headphones for the PS5 and actually prefer these over the standard offering. These just have so much more power in the sound reproduction. So definitely a huge upgrade.

I had the opportunity to review the new RIG R5 Spear Pro headphones, and while they fit comfortably, the sound quality did not blow ME away. But they are more suitable enough for the uninitiated. These wire headphones are conveniently lightweight, which would make them good for transport. The 3.5 mm headphone. Jack makes the headphones suitable for any device that has an aux input. Which includes handheld game systems, PlayStation controllers, Xbox controllers, and some Android model cell phones. The headphone bands are adjustable and can work with various head shapes and sizes. The cord length is more than adequate for head-to-head distance when gaming. As far as the sound quality, these headphones don’t get exceptionally loud; the audio is more stereo. Thankfully, with the PS5, there are 3-D audio features that enhance standard stereo audio. There is a decent amount of thump for the bassier parts of an audio track, but there is not a lot of atmosphere with the headphones. The driver is still a good sound at giving you an appropriate kick. I would say these are pretty entry-level and wouldn’t necessarily recommend them for any hardcore audiophiles. These headphones, however, are great stocking stuffers for any of your teenage gamers or anyone doing a grab bag gift exchange this Christmas.

The fit of these headphones was superb. Extremely comfortable. However, ultimately, the wideness of the 3D audio effect just wasn't there or as clear as with the Sony Pulse Elite option. After trying both, I couldn't go back. However, if you are looking for a very good build, quality headset that performs very well for the price - this is a great option!

For $70, this headset truly punches above its weight. The sound quality is on par with much more expensive headsets, and the mic is pretty good. My only drawback is the clamp force. They squeeze my head too tightly and I can’t wear them for extended periods of time. Your mileage may vary though.

Honestly, I was surprised how well these worked. Sound was loud. Not quite as crisp of a sound, but this was a lot better than I thought they would be, especially at max loudness. They did start to slightly crackle a little at max level but not all that much.
Although these are made for PlayStation, they are a 3.5mm jack so they worked great on my PC, as well as my iPhone with a 3.5mm to a USB-C adaptor.
Was told that the mic did not sound that bad.
They come with a set of magnetic covers that have the PlayStation logo on them. Or you can run without and have the RIG logo on the sides instead. I like this idea if they move forward to allow custom plates that you can create or buy.
I am a huge fan for having the mic to push up to mute and move out of the way. These do that; however, it is a bit stiff, and the mic has to be all the way up to activate the mute.
The cord length is decent length. I get these are for plugging into a controller so plenty length for that. I would like it a bit longer for those who may be on PC though.
They also have a volume knob on the cord that works. If full volume it will click causing you to have to use a little pressure to get it to move.
I only thing is that I prefer wired personally. But if you do not care, and looking for a wired headset, and you are looking at these, you won't be disappointed.
