A few Android issues
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The camera and the features are good. If you are using iPhone, you will have no issue with the Ring App. When it comes to Android, you will face issue based on the version of the Android OS. In my case, I couldn't access the "Live View" of flood light camera from my Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus smart phone. I am not sure of the other Android phones. Do not look directly at the light from a close range. It can harm your eyes. If the led lights are curved and covered like the Defiant Outdoor Led light (Model #: DFI-5775-WH), it would cause no harm to your eyes even when you look directly at the light.

Car broken into, Ring was Asleep on the Job
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My car was broken into last night and my Ring Floodlight Cam recorded a black video. The motion sensor is marginal at best, and the WiFi link is really poor. Don’t entrust your security to this product!

WON’T LAST - faulty product and no customer servic
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After just 2 years the light started flashing like a strobe light. I called Ring customer service and they said there was nothing they can do for me. I searched online and found this is apparently a common flaw.

Details Left Out
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great Camera when it works but sadly it rarely works. I purchased this Camera as I had recently had some folks relive me of some equipment off my truck. Spent fours hours on a ladder to install, went thru the set up all good. Tried to do a "live View" got " your phone is having trouble connecting to ring" well as it turns out the Broad Band requirements are a mim of 2 gbs upload despite the fact that during the setup you do a speed test and are questioned about the upload and down load speeds and there are two choices "Above 1 gb" or "Below 1 gbs" which mt seep test resulted in both above 1 gbs. ok so a call into tech support ( I must say they did answer the phone) well after explaining to the Support guy my problem it was explained to me that the Camera requires 2 gbs upload speeds. I read the box and looked at the specs for the camera prior to making this purchase. NOWHERE DID IT SATE IT REQUIRED 2 gbs but if you dig deep enough you can find where they do mention the 2 gb requirement on there support web page. So ok I lost a full day installing and trouble shooting this camera. I now must de-install and find a suitable replacement all in all I will have lost two days of work ( self employed) at which I bill $200.00 and hour so this simple purchase has cost me oh lets see $250.00 for the camera another $1600.00 in two days lost work. needless to say I am not happy and will be returning this camera as soon as I can get back to dealing with it.

fails most of the time - cannot be fixed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Liveview fails most of the time on the floodlight cam. Tech support says this is normal as of 05/10/2018. Tech support says there is no way to solve the problem of Liveview failing. Save your money, purchase a different brand with better live viewing ability. Oddly, it will record and store events for you in the cloud which you can view later, after they happen. Tech support has consistently claimed the camera is fine and all the problems are with our wifi connections, we installed new router and extender within 3 feet and have great signal strength. The doorbell cam works as it should, but the security cam is a 100 percent failure. Tech support will repeatedly ask you to reset the camera, provide better connections, and blame EVERYTHING except their product. Very disappointed and been fighting with this so long that warranty ran out. Not a good product, have already moved on to another brand and am very happy with products not from Ring.

This thing is an energy hog!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have Sense energy monitoring system and I have monitored this Ring Flood Cam for well over a year. When the Camera is activated it consumes 429 watts!!! This is costing me $37 dollars per year. It doesn't seem like much but being that it came on 1500 times last year, it cost $0.025 every time it came on. Why does a LED light consume so much power?? I am just glad that I only installed one of these. I am seriously considering replacing it with a POE PTZ camera and a motion detecting LED Flood light. OBTW, add on the monthly Ring fee for cloud recording and this thing is expensive.

Posted .Hi Grandpa,
I am sorry to hear about your less than excellent Ring experience. We do, however, notify our customers about the cloud plan on our website (https://shop.ring.com/pages/protect-plans), in your Ring app during the first free 30-day trial of our cloud plan, as well as in your email about this service. I apologize for any miscommunication but we will work on providing even more transparency to our customers as we can in the future. Our optional Protect Plans allow you to access/download/share past Ring videos. Without this service, you'll still receive real-time video alerts on your smartphone as well as have access to Live View.
Again, I apologize for this miscommunication.
Thanks,

Subscription Only Product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The camera only works with an annual subscription to their video cloud storage. I assumed when I purchased that I would have some internal memory to save recent recording, and cloud storage was only to save them long term. Unfortunately if you don't have your phone available for live view as soon as you get an alert, you will not be able to view anything without the subscription. Not even videos recorded 1 minute before you notice the alert! They give you a trial period that lasts long enough to ensure you can't return the device (whoever thought that up deserves a raise). Glad I only bought one at first, any new cameras will not be Ring. Otherwise, they seem to be finicky with the wifi, I had to put a wifi extender as close as possible to the device to get it to work, even then it is a so-so connection. I bought a cheaper 3rd party wifi extender, not their more expensive version, maybe that would help the connection, I don't see how except if it was intentionally designed that way, which would be another reason not to get the camera at all. Otherwise the camera works well, the spot light is very bright and seems to work well, though we have other outside lights in addition, so not sure how it would work solo.

Not Rocket Science
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Installed Floodlight cam. Got it connected to my wifi. Ring app said it failed the Internet connection test. Called Customer Support and lo and behold I got a native English language agent! Tyler was very helpful and said the camera was connected to the Internet but would not complete the firmware update process. He deemed the unit defective and to return to store. Did so. BestBuy shipped a replacement unit. Same issue. Called customer support. Twice. Got 2 non native English language agents. Couldn't understand them. Asked both times for another agent. Both said not possible. Thought about waiting a couple of hours for that call center to close and hopefully one in the States would open. Come on Ring direct calls from the States to a US call center and not one in India.

Subpar product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had this product for two years. Although it is an adequate entry level security system, don’t depend on it for reliable detection. It frequently send false alerts due to it’s poor motion detection software. Even when the motion sensitivity is adjusted to “people only”, it is set off by blowing leaves, car headlights, sun going in and out of clouds and insects. My wife and I often ignore alerts when 90% of them are false. It is also time consuming to reconnect the device to your WiFi when the connection is interrupted. Since the device is mounted where you need a ladder to reach (mounting it lower would enable a true threat to approach from a blind area and disable the device) it requires you to press a button on top of the unit repeatedly to reconnect. In our case it is mounted above the front porch on a balcony so I have to wAlk up and down stairs since it also requires you to see what color a light is that is under the unit out of my view. It is exhausting! Customer service isn’t helpful either always giving one excuse or another. I had one instance where I was told that “ WiFi doesn’t travel through walls and that the router would need to be outside “ I am considering other products now. Wish that I wasn’t impressed by their advertising!!

Waste of MONEY!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Installed the Ring Floodlight Cam and works good id I'm at home; but once I'm out and about there is a long delay and I can't go to live view. I've got good download and upload and the RFFI is good. Tech support wants me to disable my wifi when not at home; what's the purpose of a Ring device if you can't use it with wifi ?? BIG Waste of money..

Fatal design flaw - bulbs CANNOT be replaced!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My LED bulbs went out on my Ring Floodlight camera after 17 months of use. I called Ring support, they diagnosed and said the only option is to replace the entire floodlight camera. REPLACEMENT BULBS ARE NOT AVAILABLE!! Even though the bulbs should last 5 years (we all know that doesn't happen), their warranty is for only 12 months. These lights are hardwired and you must purchase another $200-250 floodlight camera and reinstall to replace the bulbs. WHY WOULD THEY DESIGN A PRODUCT LIKE THIS?!?!?

causes terrible lag and more
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had to take this thing down today. It causes terrible lag anytime its motion sensor activates and there is no way to completely shut this camera off. I hate it and i wish I could take it back for a refund. No option to pick frequency, only 2.4ghz. This camera should have the 5ghz option, but no. Only way to attempt to shut it down is delete the motion detection zones, but is still finds ways to create time out causing lag spikes. Did i say I hate it? Cuz i do.

Buyer Beware - Important Info to Know
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. You must have 2MPS UPLOAD speed minimum to work. Not supported by providers like ATT and Spectrum. You will not be able to use it and Ring will charge you for the monthly service anyway. Customer Support will say "your upload speed is not fast enough" and there is nothing they can do. It's expensive to buy, install, monthly support, so think twice. Mine is totally useless.

I am sorry to hear about this less than excellent Ring experience. Do you happen to know how far your Ring device is from your router? fuzzy raspy sound coming from cameria unit
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.had camera/floodlight installed about a year ago. was working great. then there was an awful raspy fuzzy sound coming from it. googled the problem, seems like many many others have had the same problem. The companies recommended fix was to have an electrician come out and reinstall the cam. Have done this. It works for a while then the problem repeats. Same problem i read that many others were having. find a different security system, this works for only one year, if that long.
