Was looking for a smart doorbell for a while and this one came up on sale pre Black Friday so I picked it up. Quick install with the exception of having to drill 4 holes in my brick. Setup was easy. Only hiccup was the live cam (looking through camera without being prompted by motion of ringing doorbell) won’t connect until you ring the doorbell the first time. Besides that no issues. Video quality is better than I expected and the alerts for motion come in very quickly where if I’m fast enough I can say thanks to the UPS guy before he walks away. Pretty impressive for $100. Another thing to remember with this install is that it is almost 2” wide so if you have a narrow space to put it in it may not work. Like I said I had to move mine over to the brick on the side and extend the wire.

The only issue I’m having with this product is the clarity. Seems to be a bit distorted. Not sure if this is how it’s supposed to look or if this one is defective.

We were so excited to make this purchase and awaited the delivery. It is built very well, came with everything I needed to install it. It says that in the description but I wanted to mention that in my review because it meant so much to me. As the outside of our home is masonry I did use the INCLUDED masonry drill bit. It worked great and this door bell is mounted solid as a rock on my home. I had just learned about video door bells by actually seeing a different brand. I then went to youtube to learn more about the one I saw and realized it only worked by a rechargeable lithium battery and could not install to my existing doorbell wiring. While I was on you tube I then discovered this Ring doorbell and learned about it. I then looked up reviews and read some articles about the different models available. Yes I like to do my research. For my needs....I didn't need any extra face plates, the clarity of the video described in all the reviews I read stated the difference in clarity from the 720p to the 1080p was marginal. There are a few other minor differences but for us this Ring Doorbell is awesome. We've used it for about a week. Our daughter came to our home while I was at work. My mother in law told her I had installed this, so she thought she would check it out. I was at work and sure enough I received an alert to my cell phone. There I see my daughter and start conversing with her. I asked her how long was she at the door before she first heard me speak to her? She said about a second or two. I was so amazed and so pleased. Some evenings I work late and my wife is home alone. Now knowing that she does not have to go to the door to answer it if she is home alone truly makes her and I feel more safe and secure. We highly recommend this product!

    Good Product That Needs Improvements

Positives: Easy Installation/Integration with existing wifi network. Relatively good response time via app. Solid 720p video quality. Availability of Live View is a great feature. $30 per year subscription is reasonable with 1 month complimentary free full featured service. Negatives: Video frame has large cutouts of black on the sides - some camera's more than others - probably either design flaw or slight manufacturing defect by placing camera lenses too deep within the body. Another app issue - besides notification message that your free subscription is going to expire on such date, they don't have clear information what is your current subscription terms, what payment is on your account etc. Last concern, the battery lasts about 2 months for me. No replaceable battery option. If you don't have wires, you have to take the whole thing off to charge. They are coming up with solar charger that doubles as door bell pedestal. Which should solve this issue.

Great product with only a few drawbacks. Installed very easy, had it wired in and running in about 20 minutes. Unfortunately if you need to experiment with WiFi, you have to hit a reset button on the back of the unit, so leave those final screws out until after testing your WiFi signal. Does need a relatively strong connection, a range extender might be necessary. Video and audio is good. Motion sensing is strong, and even though you can “control” the sensing range, it doesn’t do much difference. I catch a few cars on the street during the day even though my sensor settings are the lowest possible. Didn’t realize that you have to pay a fee to hold on to the videos. Only $30 a year, but still unfortunate I felt that isn’t advertised outside small print. Outside of the small issues, I like it a lot!

I love the concept of the Ring doorbell and chose it over the Skybell based on online reviews. I've had it about a month. While it does work, but it definitely could use improvements. I didn't have trouble physically installing the Ring and I was able to power mine off the old doorbell wiring. However, I did have trouble connecting to WiFi to set up the Ring. In my case, I had a hidden WiFi network ID and the connection attempts would time out. Once I made the network visible but still secured, I was able to connect. (I recently read that hiding the network causes its own security issues, so having a visible network with proper security is better based on what I read.) The Ring instructions say it should have been able to connect even to a hidden network, though. It does send an alert to you when someone rings the bell or approaches the door. But there is often a delay in getting this alert. Probably what's happening is that the message is sent to Ring's cloud and back, so even while you're in your house, there can sometimes be a considerable delay (10 or 15 seconds) before you get the alert. At least once, the visitor almost left before I could answer. Another issue is that it doesn't start the video recording until it's sure it sees something/someone. For instance, if a delivery man quickly drops a package off, he might not be in the video because it started to record after he was out of frame. You will see the package in the video if it's large and in the field of view. The camera also has to adjust the exposure if it's looking into the sun and can be blinded for a couple of seconds when it begins to record. So don't expect it to capture everything -- as a security camera, it's not ideal. The field of view is pretty large and is definitely good enough. The lens is sort of a fisheye lens so there is some distortion toward the edges, but I didn't find that to be a problem. The best case video quality is pretty good as well. However, the video does sometimes suffer from artifacts and may stutter at times. Some of these artifacts may have come from trying to view video over the cell phone network while away from the house, but again I'm not sure. The app works although occasionally it responds slowly and sometimes moves the delete trash-can button to a different corner of the screen. As for the motion detection, that has some issues too. I have gotten a considerable number of false alerts. I have kept reducing the detection range, and while this helped, it hasn't totally solved the problem. I think some false alerts are coming from trucks (delivery, garbage, etc.) which have a fairly large heat signature. If they are moving in the correct direction, I see them on captured video. If they are moving the opposite way, they often escape before being captured on video as I mentioned in the prior paragraph, so I can't verify if trucks actually tripped the motion detector. Other times I think the motion detector sees plants in my yard when the wind gets high. There is at least once where the motion detection probably failed. I asked a neighbor to return something to me by leaving it on my doorstep. They did, but I never got an alert. I'm not sure what happened and have some guesses, but somehow they did not trip the motion detector. Ring does require a subscription to store video in the cloud. It's only $30/year right now, but I suppose that some people would object to that cost. It would be an easier sell if the problems above weren't present. If there was a "maybe" setting for recommending to a friend, I would select that instead. But there's only "yes" and "no" and I have to select one.

If you're looking for a video doorbell and you have decent wi-fi coverage, then this is an outstanding product. If you actually want to use this for security purposes you're going to be disappointed. Let's start with mounting. The kit dose actually include everything that you need, which is great. However, if you're going to mount the unit to brick, you absolutely have to have an impact drill. A regular drill will take you forever or overheat the bit until it melts. And the 4 mounting points required does make it more tricky to get holes in the brick face and not the mortar joint, but the included level makes it easy to get it mounted correctly - measure 4 or 5 times and drill only once. The product records video and sound very well, great for people standing right next to the unit. I've recorded footsteps of the UPS guy delivering to the house next door, so in that way it's a great product. But you won't be seeing facial features or license plates much beyond 5 feet away. The wide angle lens is awesome to capture a large area if you want to see more action. The real issues is that the motion activation is still very much a work in progress. If you want to be able to have the unit start recording the minute a person sets foot on your property, you'll be very disappointed. At best the unit will capture people when they are about 2' away from the unit, regardless of the distance / sensitivity level you have set. I can pick up cars pfrom 60' away with no issue because of the large heat signature. But a family with dogs walking by the house at 15' never register. Lawn equipment will set it off as well, but not as consistently as a car. And there is also a 5-10 second delay from when the unit captures motion to when it starts recording, so it's critical that the unit be mounted at a point where people cannot walk past it. And depending on the mounting location, the 1st 1-2 seconds are washed out by lens flare as the unit gets the light metering corrected and recording usable video - which is 40 seconds long by default and not adjustable unless you answer the unit and then you can record as long as you like. If you're not on your home wi-fi, there is usually about a 20 second delay from when the unit kicks on to when you are notified and can actually connect for a live stream. So if someone comes on your porch and leaves quickly, you won't have a chance to interact with them. Then there is the issue of battery life. The 1 year specified by Ring is based on 2 activations a day. When you're getting 20 a day because cars are setting it off then you should only expect 45-60 days until it needs a recharge. Overall, this is still a work in progress and I hope the Ring team will be continue to push new firmware to improve upon the features and give more user control to adjust settings to better meet their specific needs.

This is a very nice Doorbell, and its packed with a lot of options. The setup and install was very easy and I was up and running in under 15 minutes!! Very easy to use, and the device works great and video and sound quality is great as well! Its a great option for someone who wants a security camera but wants it in a nice clean package and the Ring gives that to you!! The only thing I wish it had was the option to switch camera view and be able to tilt camera up or down.....but the fisheye camera gets a very wide video shot!!

Bought this for the added security and it's been a wonderful product. Only a couple of issues that you may have but can be quickly remedied or avoided ...1) charge fully with the usb in an outlet before installing even if you plan on hardwiring to an existing power source.... It simply takes too long to gain full charge otherwise, 2) I had an issue with lag due to metal door and distance from my router... This was easily remedied with a booster that was used only for this device, and 3) you will have to play around with the settings until you get to the right distances and preferences.... All in all this was absolutely worth having ... Piece of mind for packages left at the door, and monitoring when kids get home etc. Pretty straightforward install but you may need to rig a little if you have an older doorbell like I did... Well worth the trouble even with the added expense of the booster.

This Smart video dorbell is great. You can set up sensitivity on motion detection and it gives you alerts when someone is at range of sensitivity set up. It also records video and voice, once your trial is over you can purchase for $30 for 1 year. You can hear the person outside and you can respond back and they can hear you. You can even answer when out of town. Great security door bell. I highly recommend, you won't go wrong with purchase. You will need Wi-Fi for this item.

The ring is an amazing product but is very sensitive to traffic. When a truck drives down my street, the motion sensor picks it up and alerts me. Boy, do a lot of trucks go down my street...I get 50 or more alerts before noon! The doorbell function is fantastic and lets me answer the door when I am in my basement office or at the grocery store. The video quality is great and I love it. I keep adjusting the motion sensors and my have to disable that feature, which would be a shame. Don't love that you have to pay for monthly cloud service to be able to see who rang the bell or came to your door if you weren't around and couldn't respond to the alert immediately.

The product pretty much does what it claims but in order to record you need to pay $30 a year for storage online. You can choose to go without the storage tho and it will still allow you to see and communicate with who comes to the door. The motion sensor had a slight delay. You are unable to access the camer whenever you like. It has to be triggered by the sensor. I Chose not to attach it to the electrical doorbell in my hose so I had to run it off the battery. I have found that I have to charge it about once a month. The battery does not seem to last the months it claims for me at least. But all in all it does what I need it to do.

The Next Ring is a pretty good WiFi doorbell, but here are some things to keep in mind. 1) Make sure your WiFi reaches the location of where it's installed. I had to add a new router and setup 2.4Ghz since everything else I use is 5Ghz. Setup is simple, if WiFi works and doesn't drop. I was getting a lot of dropped connections until I changed the router. 2) I wasn't able to get the wired connection to work, so the Ring is not trickle charging. It should last a while on battery, but if you get more then 1 or 2 ring/motion sent to video per day, you'll have to manually charge it periodically. Note also that the diode is not easy to find other then online. 3) The video image doesn't look as good as good as the product images indicate. It's low res and round with black in the corners. 4) Make sure you remove the rubber gasket on the back when installing. It's not clear in the instructions and It won't mount otherwise. I spent a lot of time figuring this out. 5) The motion sensitivity is quite sensitive even on the lowest setting. I would say 10' even though it's supposed to be 5'. So I'm getting motion activity every time someone walks in front of my door and consequently the battery is draining quickly. 6) Pairing to a Ring Chime is easy and recommended. 7) WiFi latency is pretty good, but not great. It's 1 to 2 sec from clicking the button to a notification on your mobile device or ring chime. Then another 2 to 3 sec to connect to the video stream from the app. 8) Ring doesn't offer on demand viewing, which would probably drain the battery faster anyway. 9) Ring doesn't work with a lot of other home automation systems like SmartThings or ifttt (as of now). Hopefully they will ad some of these integrations in the future. Overall I'd recommend the Ring doorbell, but understand it's limitations if some of them are important to you.

I love the device; I can answer my doorbell form anywhere and if my Internet connection on my phone is good the delay to notification runs about 2-4 seconds. I am running a top of the line wifi device (ASUS RT-AC5300) as I like to have great signals inside and outside of my house so just know some 50-100 buck router could provide a different experience. The mic and video are great. If you want the videos saved to the cloud they charge $30 a year for the service which in my opinion is a deal. The only complaint I have is with the motion detection. Even at the lowest setting of 5 ft. it will pickup a large truck rolling by at 50 feet. This is something I believe is software related so I am hoping that a future update can fix this. They fix this and it is a five star device. I even installed one at my parents house and now they wouldn't know what to do without one. Their house is so big my mother often doesn't hear the conventional doorbell and this bridges the gap for her.

Pretty nice picture, sometimes hard to make out faces in the sunlight if they are real close. Sensitivity and motion areas needs more options, tree branches and cars set it off all of the time. Speaker volume seems a bit low so you have to talk very loudly. Overall great for the sale price. A bit large, but the pro version is still not that small and way too expensive.

Ring nails the doorbell of the future

I was an early adopter of Ring in my house and have used it for about 5 months. I have truly loved the device and all its capabilities that it brings to the table. So much so that I purchased a second device that I gave to my parents who had been complaining about recent breakin's in their neighborhood. These crooks will ring the bell to see if you are home and then break into the home. The ring doorbell now allows them to answer the door without opening up and they can do it from anywhere like I have been doing. Ring has a solid feature set and their cloud recording option for $30 for a whole year is very reasonable. I enjoy the device and highly recommend it to others The only downside I will tell you is there is a slight lag to getting the notice but personally I think that is to be expected. What I mean by lag is in my house the doorbell will ring and it will take 6-8 seconds before it makes it to my phone for me to accept to talk with the person at the door and about 4-5 more seconds for the application to launch. This can seem like an eternity for many folks when the door has rung and you are waiting to answer it but seems reasonable when you consider all the tech involved to find you and get you going. The other thing that Ring has an issue with is over sensitivity to motion . I have mine set to the lowest sensitivity but it will still pick up people passing by on the side walk. Thus, you will get several notices of motion at your front door that you may stop paying attention to the distractions. Outside of these two items that I mention above the Ring doorbell delivers on everything else it promises. Ring constantly updates the software and the above items can be fixed or improved with further software updates. I would recommend folks who are on the fence to get off it and get after some front door security.
