Have always loved this movie and so glad to finally have the blu ray. What I love most is that alot of the scenes were filmed in my area of northwest Indiana.

Normally I write fairly long reviews, but I think I can get through this one pretty quickly. The plot of 'Road to Perdition' is not especially remarkable. It involves well-worn themes from Mafia films like honor, revenge, family and the desire to get away from this violent world, and the characters are nothing particularly new either. (Tom Hanks is the cold, workmanlike killer, Daniel Craig the crazy wild card protected by his position as the son of Paul Newman, who is the surprisingly warm and kind mafia boss who is, nevertheless, utterly ruthless at heart etc.) There's certainly nothing wrong with this plot, and it has some fine lines and a few particularly affecting scenes, but it's nothing to get to overly worked up over. Still, the sheer craft displayed herein makes the film remarkable. The performances are all perfect, the score, while perhaps overly conventional, is powerful and emotive, the cinematography is consistently stunning and the period detail is utterly convincing. Again, this is a world we've seen before, but it's more fully realized then ever before, and it makes the film nearly mesmerizing even in the scenes where little is actually going on. Also, there's one scene late in the film, a firefight in the streets during fierce storm, which is simply breath taking. It's definitely one of the most powerful examples of pure cinema I've seen in a long time.

This Is One of Those Great Movies

This is one of those great movies that should be in every film lovers library. It's dark and sad and amazing all at the same instant. I've owned this movie on DVD and now on Blu Ray. The scene where Paul Newman's character spreads his arms and asks, "How about a hug for a lonely old man?" I always impersonate him but change the words to "How about a hug for a dirty old man?" and everybody laughs. Because Paul Newman's character in this movie is indeed a dirty old man. Also, I like the movie because it agrees with me that someone is either family or not family. There is no such thing as "like family."

Oscar winner cast , Oscar wining Conrad Hall , the cinematographer legend , Sam Mendes, Oscar director. A beautifully composed visual journey through a human drama in time. Mob families , father and son relationships , through a violent and loving view of past lives. This classic is a must see , even if just for the genius artful portraits of Conrad Hall.
Tom Hanks , Paul Newman , Daniel Craig , Jude Law , Stanley Tucci. Provocative movie.

This is not your typical Tom Hanks movie. If you are looking for humor, this is not the movie. I saw this movie at the theaters when it came out and it was not at all what you expect. This isn't a "gangster" movie. It is a movie about a man that happens to be a gangster trying to protect his family at all costs. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone who isn't just after another shoot-em up movie.

I can almost see where this story originated from. When the oldest son of Hanks' character hides under the seat of their car, he discovers his father is an enforcer for the mob. What secrets can be discovered from our parents if we, as children, hid in their cars because of curiosity as they drove away in the middle of the night. If parents attended parties with powerful people and children lived in modest houses and are only told vague ideas of what fathers really do.

The road to Perdition is a story about fathers and sons. Paul Newman is a crime boss, Tom Hanks is his bodyguard/enforcer and adoptive son. Jude Law is Hanks' eldest son. Law witnesses a murder committed by Newmans' natural son Daniel Craig. This pivotal event sets the rest of the movie in motion. With Tom Hanks, Paul Newman and Jude Law starring, how could you go wrong?

Bought as a present and haven't been able to watch it yet. Plus I am not a movie critic so I won't try to review the movie. But since cutting cable we buy movies at Best Buy. This was a great price and Best Buy has a price match policy. So its a good place to get movies. I would recommend shopping here for entertainment needs.

One of Tom Hanks' best films and performances! Road To Perdition is an excellent mob movie [and, technically, comic book movie] with fantastic performances and great direction from Sam Mendes.

Sam Mendes' follow-up to "American Beauty" is another story of twisted U.S. lives. Stately and downbeat, the film wins you over with the top-notch cast and moody art direction. It's also fun to see Daniel Craig in an early role as weasel, not hero. The dark cinematography is well-served in the Blu-ray edition.

This movie pays testament to the beauty that was the birth of modern 20th century America. Probably one of my favorite mobster stories from the last couple decades. Also has Tom Hanks who is great in everything he does, except dungeons and dragons.

Tom Hanks' fans know him to be a fantastic actor who can do drama as well as comedy. In "Road to Perdition" he plays a prohibition-era gangster trying to hide his career from his young son. A terrific film with a first class cast and excellent technical elements! Highly recommended!

I LOVE gangster movies and I hadn't seen this one, so I decided to pick it up. This is an awesome movie! Tom Hanks gives an amazing performance as an assassin and father. Not the usual role I'm used to seeing him play, but he killed it!

Tom Hanks can play any role pretty well including an old style gangster. I enjoyed this movie and realized that it is a subtle comic book type theme. The machine gun fire in the rain scene is a dead giveaway.! Pretty cool and worth watching/buying on Bluray.!

Director Sam Mendes' adaptation of the graphic novel source is nothing short of fantastic.
Tom Hanks playing against type is always enjoyable, while Jude Law really stretches his acting muscles as a creepy hit man.
Definitely worth watching.
