Finally-THE Robocop to own

This is the edition of "Robocop" that fans have been waiting for. The first release was an early blu-ray, and it left much to be desired. This latest edition is derived from a state-of-the-art 4K scan and is a wonderful thing to behold. Picture and sound are both top notch.
My only niggling complaint: Director Paul Verhoven has stated in the past that his preferred aspect ratio for the film is 1.66:1. It is presented here at 1.85:1. It would have been nice if they had framed it at 1.66:1 per the director's (assumed) preference, but it still looks great, and nothing jumped out at me as being compromised. I must add that although this release is still at 1.85:1, it does show more information in the frame than the previous 1.85:1 edition.
Bottom line: BUY IT! Buy it NOW while it's still $7.99! It also includes movie cash for the remake in theaters. You can't lose.

Let me start by saying that I gave Robocop 5 stars for special effects, lots of action, and the blu ray transfer. Had I included the acting, which is terrible in spots, it would have only gotten 4 stars. The special effects are impressive, especially for the mid-80s, an era when most of the effects were done practically, without the aid of the cgi that's available today. Murphy's death scene is graphic, even by today's standards but it's necessary to show the reason Murphy was considered for the Robocop program. The only possibly gratuitous violent scene is during the introduction of the ED209. The blu ray transfer is very good, impressive considering it's a 30 year old movie. Some of the dark scenes are grainy, but that's probably because of the source material and not the transfer process. Overall, Robocop is one of my favorite movies.

Robocop has always been one of my favorite movies of the '80s. I won't bother with all the details of the story, etc. I'll refer to professional critics for their take on that as they can summarize the movie and it's merits better than I. I just wanted to add that as an owner of the previous Blu Ray release, this is a major upgrade in the visual department and what it should have been on it's initial release. If you own the previous version and can find a good deal on the new version and you're a die hard fan, I highly recommend upgrading to this version. The only thing I wish was included was some of the stuff from the DVD Criterion version, but unless Criterion secures the rights to put it out on Blu Ray this will be the definitive Blu Ray release.

The music and ending to this movie and everything else makes this one of my all time favorites. I love the story where they satire the future and outsourcing government services to an evil private corporation OCP. I don't want to give away too much of the plot and ruin the ending, but it is just great. It has one of those memorable sound tracks like Star Wars and the original Batman. Peter Weller and Nancy Allen are absolutely perfect in this movie. There are some movies that you would think can simply not be remade, but they are coming out with a remake today. This version is classic and this blu-ray has been beautifully remastered and is being offered at a very nice price. I only wish all blu-rays were like this.

It is over the top violence and gore, and is truly deserving of its R rating. It is a product of its time, commenting on 80s politics and corporations, among others, in a witty and satirical fashion - at yet it also has deeper themes on what it means to be human (or not human). This is one of my most favorite movies of all time. The acting can be slightly campy and exaggerated, but it absolutely fits for the kind of movie this is: A fun (but incredibly violent) and entertaining movie with some deeper themes thrown in to separate it from the herd - in short, it could be seen as a "bad B-movie" but it rises above that to cult-like status because it knows exactly what kind of movie it is and it revels in it.

This is the definitive version of Robocop (1987) that we have been waiting for on Blu-Ray! The previous release, for lack of better word, garbage. The picture quality is far superior...the sound quality is excellent. There is a good amount of film grain here, but that is how it was filmed. If you are expecting Revenge Of The Sith picture quality, you'll be disapointed. This is the unedited version with the stomach turning (still to this day) factory scene with Murphy being ripped apart far more graphically than the theatrical version. Looking forward to the new version, but this is classic that finally got the attention it needed for a proper home video release. Highly recommended!

Lethally funny satire of violence as entertainment

"Robocop" remains Verhoeven's best, most pungent kick in the nuts to 80's Hollywood, expertly playing the glossy, stylish and brainless mayhem of the period against the cold-blooded greed which Hollywood only pretended not to share with any real-world "OCP"-style conglomerates.
Verhoeven also did a great job of questioning exactly why any audience would want to regard a movie as violent and sadistic as "Robocop" as "entertainment", and how that audience's appetites may have been deliberately manipulated and directed towards regarding such brutal material as acceptable - All with a big, brazen wink.

I purchased the original bluray release of Robocop a few months ago and was disappointed in the rushed release that included no bonus features to speak of. This release, however, makes up for that mistake and then some with a solid array of bonus features including retrospective and original making of featurettes as well as interviews with the cast and crew. Also included is a code to redeem movie cash up to $7.50 to go see the new Robocop reboot in theatres. For only $8 (the sale price when I purchased it), this was a no brainer and yes, I already used the movie cash but that's a whole seperate review...

I first saw this at the theater and at the time was more interested in just another action type movie.
Since building my movie collection I have come to really like this movie on many levels and really enjoy revisiting it. Paul Verhoeven plays RoboCop straight while creating craziness all around him which, IMHO, works well. By the end of the ride you really root for officer Murphy (RoboCop).
This new remastered edition is the 3rd version I own and it looks and sounds the best, clearly the definitive version to date. Oh, and it is the unrated version for the extra excitement in the board room scene.

This limited edition Arrow SteelBook is the definitive version of the satirical 80's classic to own. The transfer is excellent & the set includes a bunch of goodies like an informative booklet & postcards so you can let your friends & family know you are a supporter of robotic law enforcement. This movie will make you wish every cop was a RoboCop, even if that means they wouldn't be able to turn off their body cam whenever it suits them like non-RoboCops.

Fans of ROBOCOP know it's a great movie but the treatment on DVD and Blu-ray by MGM has always been spotty at best. Until now! MGM finally listened to the fans complaints and did a thorough clean-up of the movie and also included a slew of extra's from the hard to find Criterion studio edition DVD from long ago. This print is top notch quality. Also, the price was pretty hard to believe. When it was first available I picked up my copy at Best Buy for under $8.00 !!
This BLU-RAY is a steal even at twice that price. Donate your old MGM copies to a nursing home and buy this copy today!

Excellent Classic Action Movie

The classic story of a man left for dead by the bad guys returns "from the grave" to exact revenge. It's the story of countless Westerns, and it's been updated to the not-too-far-future of Detroit. What makes this great? A good plot that moves fast, some great scripting, production design, score, and most of all, a great cast. Peter Weller is perfectly cast as the title character, while Kurtwood Smith and Ronny Cox provide great main villains, and Nancy Allen gives the film some heart. While it never quite transcends it's genre as well as, say, a good Tarantino film, for a low budget 80's action flick the studio didn't have high expectations for, this thing delivers. Round that out with a pack of supplements you will actually enjoy watching, featuring extensive interviews on various topics with the cast and crew, and you have a winner.

Rated R, For Robocop

Yes, I'm quoting "Honest Trailers," because they are right; the only way to make a real Robocop movie is to rate it "R" and hold nothing back. This Blu Ray is the quality you'd expect from the media, with added features that are so seamlessly installed it's difficult to tell at first glance, and so fitting you wonder why they were not included. If you like the movie, it is a must buy. If you've only seen the new version, you owe it to yourself to see this version, and I'm willing to bet you'll be buying this set very soon after.

Classic Made Whole

I don't think there is much to be said about Robocop, it's a classic that will always stand the test of time.
The big reason to get this, well one of two. First is the slew of solid extras of behind the scenes material and commentary. Second and most important is that the excised material (roughly about one minute) that was removed to achieve the R rating has been restored to the film. The story doesn't alter but the violence is taken to the over-the-top extreme where it blends into more dark comedy.
A must have for any completionist.

I hadn't seen Robocop in a while but I remember it was a quirky but very enjoyable film. With the new Robocop coming to theaters out I found out that the original was being rereleased on a brand new blu-ray I knew I had to have it. I'm very glad I bought it. It was even more enjoyable this time I saw it. Plus the disc is loaded with special features.
P.S. The movie also came with an offer to see the new Robocop. While not as enjoyable as the original it was still a good movie which I will also be picking up when it's released.

Robocop is an unbelieveable experience. I haven't watched the film since 1988 and the other day I recieved it on DVD. So I eagerly popped it in the player and BOOM!!! The only way I can describe Robocop is ultraviolence. The film is so over the top and out of control. The film speaks of a future where big companies will run the governmental defense. Those times are upon us more and more everyday. Paul Verhoeven has made one of the most important science fiction films ever made and it's a brillant piece of cinema.

This is the 80s action film to end all. At the time it pushed the boundaries for acceptable levels of cursing, gore, and violence allowed in a rated R film. If you're looking for a non-stop thrill ride then this is your film. I'd recommend RoboCop to any fan of ultra violent movies, cop dramas, or adrenaline junkies. Hokey? Some. Special effects dated? A little. Acting? I've seen better. Awesome? Absolutely.
