It allows for easy removal of the TV from the wall when it is nessesary. It was used to mount my 46 inch Samsung TV.

It works well

Directions were pretty good and it comes with all the hardware for the various styles of TVs it fits. The 4 lag bolts make it really secure to the wall - no fear of the plate coming off the wall - but the way the TV attaches, it definitely moves around a bit. I actively tried to lift it off the mount and couldn't, but it definitely moves around. If I were mounting a TV on the larger/heavier end of the spectrum, I might be a little nervous about it.
