I am very impressed with this Roku streaming stick. I have used Google’s chromecast streaming device and an Apple TV a few times, but they don’t even compare to this Roku stick. It comes installed with popular streaming apps like Hulu, Netflix and Sling, but you can also download your own as well! What’s Included The box contains a small Roku box, remote, HDMI cable, power cable, and double sided tape. The size of the Roku box is about three inches long. The double sided tape lets you stick it to top or bottom of your TV. The tape loses its stickiness after awhile, but that isn’t too big of a deal. To avoid it falling from your TV, I would recommend placing it on top of your TV. Once I placed it where I wanted it, it is barely noticeable. Positives First off, my favorite thing about this product is how affordable it is. I bought it for a one time cost of $24.99 so I thought there had to be a contract or a monthly fee with it, but the only fee is your steaming service that you decide to use. For example, I personally use YoutubeTV as my streaming service and it is a monthly fee of $29.99. It works very smoothly and I have never have any problems with it lagging or loading. The next thing I really enjoy about this product is how easy it is to use. It comes with its own separate remote which is very sleek. It also has an excellent smartphone app you can download which acts as a remote on your smartphone. I often use the private listening option that comes with the app. I can connect my headphones to my phone and the sound will only come through my headphones. This is especially helpful for me since I have three roommates! Negative The only downside I could see with this product is the lack of a Ethernet port. I am fortunate enough to have very good WiFi that is included with my apartment. If you have a standard option of WiFi, you could experience some buffering just because are restricted to using WiFi. Overall, there may be pricer devices out there that have more options and features. But, if you are looking for a device that is sleek, easy to use, and inexpensive, don’t pass up on this device! If I could rate this more than 5 stars, I most definitely would!!!

I have never owned a Roku streaming box before now, but I have had plenty of experience with the Roku 2 and 3 prior to purchase. I was buying this for use on my bedroom TV, which I don't watch all that often. I limited my budget based on this use case which brought me to 2 options. The Express or the Stick (it was on sale at the time, so same price). My TV is older and doesn't doesn't have USB ports to power the Stick, and its HDMI ports were on the side. This would make the Stick protrude well beyond the edge of the TV, and it would require wall power just like the Express. For these reasons I ruled out the Stick and went with the Express. The Express is a very small device - no bigger than a roll of quarters. It comes with double sided tape so you can mount it anywhere - I stuck mine to the bottom edge of the TV. I hooked it up using the provided HDMI cable and wall charger. Setup was pretty easy - you need to have a computer nearby to login and activate the Express before you can use it. I was able to add my HULU, HBOnow, and Sling accounts from the web browser on my computer. I could also pick a few of the free streaming channels I like through the browser, and it would automatically add it to the Express. However, I had to add my Nettflix account directly on the device - not an option through the browser. This was a more time consuming way to add accounts, and I'm not sure why Netflix was singled out. The interface on the device is pretty straightforward. Newcomers will not be overwhelmed, and its pretty intuitive. I was used to it coming from the 2 and 3, so there was no learning curve. The remote is just OK. It does what I need it to, so I guess that is good enough. Picture quality is solid. I'm watching at 1080P without it buffering/lagging/pixelating. I was worried about my router having enough signal in my bedroom to keep up, but it hasn't been an issue. For an MSRP of $30, this is a nice little streamer.

    EXCELLENT INEXPENSIVE STREAMING PLAYER!

I decided to buy this Roku player for turning my TV into a smart TV. Mainly I wanted to try and receive cable tv channels from internet-cable services.(OTT). Now a days, most of all TV channels are digital and require a cable box to receive cable channels. In order to avoid having a cable box with extra equipment fees, the trick is, as long as you have a good internet connection, a compatible streaming player or TV, a digital TV antenna, and sign up for any OTT TV service, you can get Cable TV for a low cost without a cable box! It's technically the new standard for basic cable now and this Roku player does great for this purpose! I have a cable-outlet hooked straight to my TV from a TV Antenna for free local channels and have this Roku for my cable channels! This Roku player gave me a 30 day free trial for Cable TV with Sling and I instantly got hooked! It's definitely worth paying for! Only $25 a month! Just know that the free trial is only for NEW SLING TV customers. I also bought this for watching youtube and other videos without having to connect a laptop to my TV. Since, I didn't care for the remote that came with this player, especially without TV volume and mute controls, I've been using my universal TV remote with it since day one instead.(Mostly any streaming player compatible universal TV remote will work.) So I have one remote for the TV and Roku controls and have all the important functions for both. Also since the player does overheat, I bought a little desk fan to keep the Roku cool and haven't had any overheating issues since then. I also limit up to no more than 8 apps on my homepage to keep it running smoothly, it's enough for me. So if you've got a good internet connection and willing to do these extra steps, it's a great streaming player for the low price! Just keep in mind that you have to provide credit or debit card info for a Roku account in order to activate any Roku device including Roku TV's. Also if someone charges you $69 for activation, it's most likely a scam because it's not necessary. (I skipped this and still works fine.) Over all, great device for the price!

Roku Channel has hundreds of free movies

I have used Roku for years, including several different models. The best new thing of note is Roku has recently released The Roku Channel, which has hundreds of free movies. It is ad supported.Roku has just about every app you can imagine. The Express is the least expensive model, but it works fine. Here are some points to consider when deciding on which model of Roku to buy: 1)If you need to connect by WiFi in a room far away from your WiFi router,I would recommend the Roku Streaming Stick PLUS or Roku Ultra. 2)If you have a 4K TV,I would recommend the Roku Ultra or Roku Streaming Stick PLUS. 3)To search for content using your voice,go with either the Streaming Stick,Streaming Stick PLUS or Ultra. 4)If you want a wired ethernet connection,go with the Roku Ultra. 5)If you want to connect to an old TV with RCA/Composite audio/video jacks, you will need the Express PLUS 6)The Express models have a remote where it has to be pointed at the device, unlike the other Roku models. 7)If you are only going to buy one Roku device,I would recommend the Roku Ultra. The Ultra has many unique features that the other Roku models don't such as: -Gaming buttons to play video games -Remote finder to find a lost remote control -Ethernet port for a wired connection -Micro SD card slot -USB Port -Night listening mode (this lowers the volume of loud, explosive sounds and raises the volume of soft sounds like whispers.Very useful!) -Headphone jack on the remote for listening without disturbing others

I own and older version of the Roku but after reading the Xfinity website I found I could replace my Xfinity box with a newer version of the Roku stick. The Roku does take the place of the secondary box, it is not as easy with the Roku remote since the Roku remote has no numbers and the setup for Xfinity is slightly different but it serves its purpose and I don't pay extra monthly fees for the small cable box from Xfinity. I do on the other hand receive all the Roku channels so it is a win for me. As I think about it... I did buy the cheapest version of a Roku for $29 and unlike my first one the remote is line of sight which means that the remote has to be pointed right at the Roku device as opposed to my old one which hid behind the television connected to the HDMI port. So the Box they give you is now taped to the bottom of my television so I can point my remote at it. Maybe this cuts down on cost for the least expensive version but it's not a big deal for me.

    Roku Express Works for Me

Did my research and opted for Roku on both my Insignia TVs I bought last year from Best Buy. Cable Vision is dying and I needed to make the change. However there were many shows that were a "must have" to make me happy. Roku combined with Hulu "live" gives me all ever wanted. Roku was a one time purchase fee and the Hulu is monthly at $39.99, no contract and I can jump off or on at any time. My Internet speed of 6mb is sufficient to work these systems thru my Uverse WiFi. I am a fan and could not be happier. Cable TV is no longer needed to get great reception and programming. I am excited for my future television viewing with my Insignia TVs, my Roku devices and my Hulu service. I should have changed over long ago. But not knowing enough to make a decision to do that was the only thing holding me back. I asked all around about Roku and got nothing but "thumbs up" responses. Check for yourself, ask around, investigate and see for yourself. My second Roku box was purchased online from Roku and is the Ultra version. It has an on/off button on remote, volume controls and other perks that I really like. So any investment into a Roku is a good one.

    Trouble with unit

We purchased this unit so that we could return our extra cable box and save on our monthly cable bill. Unit worked great at first. Tried Roku out for two weeks and decided it was user friendly and pretty easy to operate. Then we stated having issues with unit freezing up and doing random faults. It got to the point where unit would not operate more than 10 minutes without having to reset unit. I went to return this unit to Best Buy and was informed that the return policy was only 15 days and that they could not return the unit or give me store credit (even with all packaging and original month old receipt). The Roku unit bring defective did not bother me as much as a Best Buy’s poor return policy. I have informed all about this unheard of 15 day return policy and warned them to purchase elsewhere. I do not know of any other retailer who will not stand behind the products they sell. Very disappointed in Best Buy!

My wife and I had gone out of town for a getaway. We often like to hole up in a hotel and binge some television or movies we've fallen behind on and usually use any of our phone, computers, or tablets to do so. Well on this trip I forgot to bring nay adapters or cables to do so, so we headed to the local Best Buy to pick up an HDMI, which couldn't be had for less than $25. On our way out of the store we stumble on this handy little device and being a fan of streaming devices, at $30, I decided we'd give it a try. It now has a permanent home in my technology bag when I travel (which it quite a bit). The setup and use each day in hotels is relatively painless, even with login screens and terms of service pages. I've yet to experience any hardware issues out of the device. Once, the subtitles somehow found themselves an entire scene ahead of the movie, but a quick back out of the show and jump back in set everything right. The remote isn't quite as intuitive as I'd like and sometimes the 'up' button doesn't register as well as the others, but overall I've been very pleased with this streaming stick and have recommended it to several people.

Overall, I like the Roku Streaming Media Player, and I prefer it to the Amazon Fire Stick which I have also tried. The Roku delivers better quality, I do not see the annoying "stuttering effect" that I frequently experienced with the Amazon Fire stick. I also prefer Roku's user interface as it is simple and straightforward. I would give this product the full five stars if not for the occasional problems I have with the Roku remote control. Sometimes the remote looses its connection with the Roku streaming stick, and I tried the reset button inside the remote's battery compartment but that usually fails to correct this issue. I found through a process of trail and error that the best thing to do in this case is to just reset the Roku stick by unplugging its A/C adapter and then plugging it back in. Then the remote works again. I would not consider this issue a deal breaker though, as it only occurs occasionally, and when it does occur it is easy to fix.

I originally bought this Roku for me to use. I ended up taking my Daughter's old Roku Stick off her TV and hookup the new one to her TV. This was to see if she can access a certain channels that she was not able to before with her old Roku. I love this particular model due to it having a box on it. Makes hooking up the Roku much easier and have a lot more channels than the old one. It works so much better. I had to go and buy another Roku for my TV. I love this model. You can put the front of the box at the edge of your entertainment center making easier for the remote to connect to. My Daughter and I both love to do Streaming. We get more movies, more TV channels than we do with any other services. You still need a WIFI. There are Wireless Hotspots that you can use with out having a cord to hook up to in order to get TV, Movies, Music without having to pay those fees. We love our Roku's. Yes you do need to have a Roku for each TV that you have. It is so very much so Worth It.

I needed to replace a Roku box (that i purchased in 2012) for a 15 year old Insignia tv. The tv is a 1080p and still kicking, so i didn't want to waste money on another television. Nor did i need to spend extra for the 4k devices as its our kitchen tv and cant receive anything higher than 1080p. This streaming device was so easy to install and use that it took more time opening the darn box than hooking it up. Not much has changed since my first box. It is easy for everyone in my home to use, including my 75 year old mother. There's nothing to learn, you point the remote and use the arrow keys to move, nothing more. I have to admit I dislike Roku remote controls so we use our smartphones and tablets to control our devices. Every Roku device has the ability to be controlled this way so it is easier for my mother and I to see the downloaded roku remotes. I love the simplicity of roku brand products and i have never been let down.

My old Roku streaming stick seemed to be running so slowly lately but I wasn't sure if it was the Roku or the old 40 inch HDTV I had it attached to. With the great price of this Roku express streaming player I decided to see if there would be any difference and wow. It's like night and day. This little express streaming Roku compared to my older streaming stick is much faster with no lags. As fast as I can click it can go. It also runs the most modern version of Netflix with the annoying auto preview which my older steaming stick did not run. Finally, the remote is great and even pointing it at the opposite direction from the little Roku box commands are affected instantly. They even include an HDMI cable and 2 AAA Duracell batteries with the little Roku box and remote. Amazing value. This is definitely one of those rare "steal" purchases where it seems you really are getting the better deal by a mile. Excellent device and value!

First let me say that I love the value that Roku provides. This unit is good for the $25 but what bothered me most about it is the infrared remote and having to have line-of-sight from the remote to the IR receiver along with the lack of being able to control tv power and volume. The Roku Streaming Stick +, which I also own, provides an RF remote so there is no ugly IR receiver necessary, plus is can control my tv volume and power. What is sorely missing from the Roku remotes however is a channel button to go up or down one channel if you are using it to tune in to live tv such as I am using the Xfinity Stream app. The closed captioning on the Roku is nowhere near as nice as what you get with Amazon devices but I guess it's better than nothing if you need that. I would give the Roku Streaming Stick + a 4 star rating because it is a much better experience than the Roku Express albeit at about double the cost, around $50, but oh so worth it in my opinion.

I decided to purchase this Roku after my cable provider decided to make cable boxes mandatory. Unfortunately you have to pay a monthly fee for the cable boxes and I really didn't want one for my bedroom since we already had one in the living room. I did some research and found that I could watch cable on Roku using my cable account (something I couldn't do with the Fire TV I already owned). It seems like a better product overall than the Fire TV since it also supports Amazon prime services as well as other services the Fire TV doesn't. Its incredibly easy to set up and easy to use. If the room this is intended for is close to wifi then this version is really all you need. Of course if its farther away I recommend the plus version, which we also have. The Roku app for your phone is also very useful and easy to use, so if you misplace the remote you can still operate your Roku.

This is different! I've had satellite TV for decades. Roku with HULU purchase is surely different. Roku alone, using free services, has plenty of entertainment and news, but not the big sources. With Prime and recently purchased Hulu I have sufficient TV to amuse an ancient couch potato. Compared to sat TV (200 channel version) my monthly cost for Hulu and Prime is 40% less. There is give and take as to channel availability but in general they are roughly equal for my taste as to news and entertainment. Channel switching is slightly longer due to streaming, but not a problem after getting use to it. Occasionally streaming interrupts the service but not often, maybe once every 2 days and not for long. I think this is more my internet service than Roku. Still working with it, discovering new stuff on it, glad I bought it, sorry I waited so long.

I was told about Roku when I went to the internet provider I use to get a small converter box that would show HD rather than SD TV since I had just replaced an older TV. They said I would get all the standard TV channels and I could get other channels either for free or for a subscription. I plugged it in without hooking it to the cable outlet and set it up to connect to my wireless network and now I have all my TV channels plus some other channels on this TV. This particular model has to be mounted so the remote can see it was the only downside but that wasn’t a real big deal. I liked it so much I went and bought another one except what they call the Roku Stick which doesn’t have to have line of sight to the remote and I use it on our main TV in the living room. I love this thing, It’s great

For $29 this Roku model offers the same capability as the $39 fire stick and $100 Apple TV, making your “dumb” tv into a fully functional smart tv. In addition to the great price, the Roku offers the Spectrum TV app that allows your to view the full range of your Spectrum channels without a digital cable box. Spectrum doesn’t offer this app for the Firestick. The only negative is that it requires a sensor (provided) in direct line of sight to the remote. You can stick this on top of the tv, which doesn’t bother me at all. Overall, a great product. Now every tv in my house is a smart tv that in addition to allow streaming of Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, etc., allows me to get all my Spectrum channels on every tv. If it weren’t for this capability I would have dumped Spectrum long ago.

Love the ROKU devices. I own a few and this one is my second favorite, The first is my TCL ROKU TV. They are easy to set-up and easy to use. This one can get a little to warm so I have mine set-up on a metal heat sink. The memory seems to be limited to about 300 channels depending on how much data the channel needs to function, but other then that I love this one. I also can control it and my TV with a ROKU App on my Cell Phone. This one is much better then the HDMI Stick ROKU because if the remote control goes bad on the HDMI Stick it will no longer function, That is why I bought this second one ( My HDMI Stick won't work any more ).

I was pretty much forced to stream when my satellite provider removed the one premium station i ever watched. I have friends that use the ROKU Express which is why I purchased this device. The price is sooo reasonable. I bought 2 because I have 2 tvs, they were easy to set up and while i got errors when I first set up, i was never 100% if those errors were ROKU or one of the apps i have on the device, but it seems to have worked itself out and i have had no issues. I love that this device is sooo small, you don't even notice it! I am 100% streaming and have cancelled my satellite provider and have no intention of returning to "regular" tv again and I have already converted a few friends to streaming because of this product and experience!
