This mini-series is unbelievable. The acting, especially two of the main actors who are starring in their first film, is top notch, full of visceral, raw emotion. The story plays out seamlessly and is both heartbreaking and beautiful. It is hard to watch but so important for us to remember. The bonds of family, the importance of culture and heritage, the resilience of the human spirit, this movie has it all. I wish it were required viewing for all college students, I wept several times during the film and was on the edge of my seat, captivated, throughout all four parts. Please watch, you will not be disappointed.

I saw the original miniseries years ago so it was hard not to compare this version to the original. I must say that nothing can compare to the impact of the original as it was groundbreaking at that time. This version however, stands on its own merits and I thoroughly enjoyed it and thought it was well cast.

This movie is based on real life events and is a highly sensitive topic of slavery and full of racist behavior and shows how slavery was without going too extreme into it and without sugar coating the topics. It may be a trigger for some due to the violent scenarios.

This is a must see series chronologing the experience of Africans brought to the US as slaves. It was terrifying and troubling but it was truthful and knowing history and learning from past mistakes is the only way to avoid repeating it. Everyone should see this!

This depiction on an already great series had me nervous, as many remakes are horrible. I must say that I was extremely shocked. If you can't look at "old" movies, then you'll want to purchase this as they really captured the essence of the predecessor.

This updated Roots is absolutely wonderful. None of the changes to this version took anything away from the original broadcast version, but added rich quality and important background information to the story, to the production's benefit. Loved it!

Nothing can touch the original groundbreaking miniseries but this comes close. It was hard not to compare this version to its predecessor but if you can look at this one on its own merits its actually quite good and has some really good actors.

What a dramatic and intense movie of family commitment and the harsh realities of slavery. I loved it. My wife and I both cried throughout and really learned a lot in this epic. Would definitely recommend but certainly a very graphic movie.

Absolutely stunning and beautifully-crafted fact-based historical odyssey of am American classic!! The acting was suburb. The plot had some unbridled brutality and scenes of uplifting hope! A great story!!

Remake of the 1977 historic movie of a man discovering his family history. There are some major changes in the story which reflect additional research. This is a great movie which has historical value!

I've seen the old version way back when I was in middle school and now about 14 years later this is still a great one too. I will have my son watch this when he is old enough to understand as well

I like the newer updated version of Roots. I like the fact that it is more condensed than the original version,which I will always like without leaving out many important integral facts.

It was a little more modern than the way it was originally formatted. Teaching my son about the past to better his understanding about people and their way of thinking.

This is a well made retelling of the classic Alex Haley novel's story of one family's journey through the evils of slavery. Worth watching for every American to learn more about the darkest chapter of our great nation's history.

The backstory of persons whose skin color differs from our own is important in understanding current day events. This story is helpful in that endeavor.

Cheap and what a great movie quality of the disk is amazing i recoment these movie

Nothing like the original "Roots," but a great story line. This one is definitely made for the times and graphic. A movie for all to see.

The movie was a great retelling of the original that came out in the 70’s. A must see.

Although the original is still my favorite I enjoyed the story with new young and fresh actors. It is a good companion keepsake with my DVDs of the original and its continuation story!

This movie was excellent it just hurts to see still today afro Americans are still being treated like slave but with pay.
