Almost 5 years to the date, the doors get funky. Of course, just a little past 5 years so that there is no protection or warranty. Go online and discover that EVERYONE regrets this purchase. Samsung; great phones, TVs and computers. Refrigerators? Not so much. Terrible ice makers.

Ice Maker Issues

I knew I shouldn't have bought Samsung but against my better judgment I did. This is the 2nd ice maker repair on this fridge and there's even a class action lawsuit in process. Do not buy this junk. I am never buying Samsung anything again. Purchased in 2016 with Geek Squad coverage. First repair was done under coverage, second repair being done right after Geek Squad insurance expired.

The first delivered Samsung showcase door and inner door didn't latch tight. Every time the inner door was opened the 2 doors snapped together. The one in the store didn't have that defect. So that fridge was sent back and a second delivered. That door was worse than the first one. Moved on to a Whirlpool and much happier. Best Buy's main concern was my satisfaction and did not question my exchanges.

Overall good fridge, but has some issues

This is a good fridge, but it has a few issues.
First, the space is a little limited, but that is expected from a counter depth fridge. The shelves retract or lift nicely to allow for larger items, and that is really nice. The ice maker takes up a lot of room in the fridge, and I knew that going in, but after using the fridge for a while, it is actually quite significant.
The big issue I have had with the fridge has been the ice maker. Even though all we use is cubed ice, the ice comes out half crushed. And it tends to always have some errant piece of ice fall on the floor when using it. It is also relatively slow to dispurse ice.
The water coming out of the fridge fills the glass quickly, but since it is in the same recepticle as the ice, it shoots down at a backward angle. If you don't lower your glass after getting ice, you will spill water on the floor.
The fridge has the ability to hook up to the internet, but doesn't have much functionality and doesn't work with iOS devices.
Other than that, it is well laid out and looks nice. It is louder than I would like, but others have said it is silent, so not sure if I just have a loud unit. The EZ-Open door is fantastic.
Overall, I'd recommend, but definitely be aware of the icemaker issues above.

The sounds that I read about from earlier reviews made me cautious. No big deal. Only noticeable if you are raiding the fridge at 2 am. Great look. Many compliments. Only downfall is the freezer compartment. Big and roomy, but it is a bin with shelves. Can easily get disorganized. Takes big effort to keep orderly. Aside from that, Great Fridge/Freezer.

I bought this refrigerator as an open box item. As you know counter depth refrigerators come at a premium, this is what we could afford. The price was too good to pass up so we got the warranty also. We shall see how it holds up

Samsung - 22.5 Cu. Ft. Counter-Depth Refrigerator

We purchased a Samsung - 22.5 Cu. Ft. Counter-Depth French Door Refrigerator with Thru-the-Door Ice and Water - Stainless Steel Model Number: RF23HTEDBSR, SKU: 7676019. On several occasions is stopped working and temps in the refrigerator and freezer rose to 50 and 22 degrees (I used remote temperature sensors). After speaking with Samsung service/support we were told we would have to make and appointment with an authorized service provider. The service provider could not come till sometime the next week, and we were not interested in waiting over a week for service and spoke with BestBuy sales/support and decided to return the refrigerator. We loved the "Door-In-Door" feature, but the service was unacceptable and we purchased an LG 24" Counter Depth, which we LOVE!!! It's doors work better, three drawers in freezer are definitely more convenient.

A little over two months after delivery, the freezer stopped cooling. Best Buy (BB) advised that the earliest a Geek Squad (GS) tech could come was in 10-days and they would try their best to send someone earlier, but recommended checking with Samsung (S) for an earlier service date.
S offered to send a tech that same day that we called. Service was scheduled for 5PM to 7PM. Meanwhile, I was told their tech would call 0.5-hr before arrival.
S tech, ultimately, arrived at around 7:30PM. Took apart the inside of the refrigerator to check for a coolant leak. Then announced, at about 9:30PM, that he would have to return earlier, on another day, "while tech support is open". This turned out to be the following Monday, 7 days later. I had to take ½-day off of work.
Meanwhile, a GS tech arrived, the Saturday prior to S tech’s 2nd visit, for which I was grateful. This is because S tech called a couple of nights before, saying that our compressor needed to be replaced. Also, that it involved welding, which he claimed our condo likely would not permit.
Hearing this, during the Saturday visit, GS tech said he would consult his contacts at S the following Monday, since they were "closed on Saturdays". Early Monday morning GS tech informed me that the S tech should replace the compressor, because welding should not be an issue with our HOA, so long as they know our refrigerator is being serviced. Otherwise, Samsung should offer to replace the refrigerator with a new one.
Two (2) S techs arrived Monday around noon with welding equipment. Upon opening the back of the refrigerator, however they said they traced the failure to a coolant leak within the refrigerator wall. Then gave me a Replacement Authorization number, advising me that our refrigerator would be replaced within 48 hours.
When I followed up with S Customer Service the following day, I was informed that it would take 5 days for approval and that BB would call to let me know when I would "be allowed to return to the store to pick out a new refrigerator".
Five days later, after not hearing from BB, I called. They said they had not heard from S, so I called S's Customer Service line, again. I was told that their repair tech failed to forward required documents to them. That they needed our point of sale receipt.
Sent them the receipt, which was on Thursday. Received a call 2-days later, on Saturday night. S Validation Dept requested that I contact their Executive Customer Service department on Sunday, after 6AM, which is today. I called at 8AM and was informed that our exchange / refund approval had gone through, two days prior, on Friday. I was asked if BB called. They had not.
Now I have to call the S Executive Customer Dept back in three hours, due to BB opening at 11AM, so we may do a conference call wherein S will ask BB to exchange the refrigerator or to refund our money, I am told.
I am really not sure if the unit we got is a lemon or if this catastrophic failure -- top portion stopped working, too, after S techs' 2nd visit -- is caused by poor workmanship and / or types of parts installed by S.
We’ve been without a refrigerator, going on our third week now. This has been a lengthy and extremely stressful, costly and inconvenient ordeal that is yet to be resolved, fifteen days later. Even though we are completing a BB form for food spoilage reimbursement, at the advice of their GS, there is the cost of bottled water and meals eaten out and loss of wages.
I will update this review, once a final resolution is, hopefully, reached. Meanwhile, appreciate hearing how everyone else's Samsung refrigerator is functioning, after several months or years; as opposed to a few weeks. Would be helpful to know whether ours is an isolated case or the norm. Especially, since Samsung tied with LG for the JD Power Award for Customer Satisfaction, which is misleading to potential buyers. If it is a prevalent issue, inherent to the brand, that is.

Ice Maker Issues

If producing ice is important to you, stay away from this Samsung model. We have had nothing but problems with dispensing ice after owning it for only a year. Ice compartment freezes over and needs to be defrosted every few months, water dripped from ice dispenser whenever dispensing ice, and now, the ice maker will not work at all. Have tried everything Samsung has suggested to no avail. Apparently this is a big issue with Samsung ice makers and they do not have resolution. Hoping that they step up and make things right. $2500 is a lot to spend for a fridge that cannot make ice! Outside of this issue...it is a beautiful fridge. No other problems.

I’ve had this refrigerator since November 2017. The ice maker has already been replaced twice and it has frozen up again for the third time now. I have to call Best Buy to send someone out to fix it yet AGAIN! My next refrigerator will not be an LG.

I should not know the names of the Geek Squad techs who might be assigned to yet another service call. But after eight (that I can track) calls for an ice maker that doesn't produce ice, I can ask the scheduling department the name of the assigned tech by name. Today, I had service calls for both my Samsung fridge and my one-year- two-week old Samsung microwave. There are no more Samsung products in my future...they're not worth the time and inconvenience it takes for service calls.

Bought this Samsung fridge 2.5 years ago. I can never match the water filter and the flow is extremely slow. We started cooling water containers in fridge. Ice maker failed after 2 years and the upper fridge started humming loudly and failed a week ago. You will regret buying this fridge.

We spent a good amount of time looking and reading reviews of multiple units. We settled on this for the features it offered. However, the day it was delivered, the door in door never worked well, and cannot be repaired. The beverage door does not open or close tightly, and easily comes un-latched. Per the repairman, this is a known issue with Samsung, but there is not a fix. We requested an exchange, however, for the second time, the same problem occurred. We will now return the unit, and go with a brand we can trust. Should have known better with the problems Samsung has continued to experience across their product lines.

Counter Depth Version Has Door In Door Issues
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
Loved the refrigerator at first. The only issue was the design of the ice maker feed through the door leaves one door shelf practically unusable. The real issue is that the door in door feature is poorly designed. When you open the right door it only opens the outer door even when you don't depress the handle button for that feature. If you open the door very slowly, the mechanism will stay engaged and open the entire door. The Samsung community pages detail this issue from many owners and all state that Samsung couldn't resolve the issue.

I had a mess of issues with Best Buy when it came to purchasing this unit. after about 6 months it started sounding loud. at 17 months the freezer stopped freezing. It "cools" but 38 degrees is not freezing. And service repair from Best Buy was useless, and so far things aren't looking good for Samsung either. For the $ I'd expect more.
