    Great Design, Poor Quality

With looks and functionality that are spot on, we knew we made the right decision to buy this model three years ago. Today, that confidence has been replaced by disappointment. A year ago, the ice maker shut down due to buildup of ice inside the unit's housing, preventing the cubes from being released into the tray. Half an hour's employ of an ice pick and a hair dryer later, problem solved...but only for a few weeks. After multiple recurrences, we gave up and now buy bagged ice. It's clearer and tastes better anyway, and we spend less on it in a year's time than we would on water filters. If there's a manufacturer making a residential fridge/freezer that can produce clear ice, we'd like to know which. When the ice maker does work, the sound of the finished cubes being dumped into the tray is startlingly loud. Our dogs barked at it at first, but all in the household eventually learned to tune it out. Twice in the last six months, the freezer door handle has fallen off the left side. Putting it back in place requires an allen wrench to disconnect the right side, then slide the handle - from right to left - back onto the metal nubs that hold the it in place. As some others have mentioned, the stainless steel exterior dings very easily, and without our knowing when or how. We have no kids, we're both very careful around it, and there's nothing for the doors to impact when opened completely. We were also influenced to choose this one as a result of owning a Samsung washer, dryer, and 60-inch LED TV that have been excellent. Indeed, this refrigerator offers versatile storage, freezes and cools well, and the LED lighting is nice and bright. All things considered, however, this was an unsatisfactory investment.

The refrigerator was purchased in November 2012 with a Geek Squad protection plan. In May 2014 the ice and water dispenser stopped working after routine filter change (used Samsung filter). Also, used four NEW Samsung filters when this happened as some filters can be defective, but this did not make a difference. You can hear the water dispenser/ice maker call for water in an attempt to work, but nothing happened. Geek Squad was notified the day this happened and they scheduled a service appointment with one of their certified repair companies. The first appointment was a “diagnostic” and once it was done the parts were ordered (this is where it just started to go downhill). The parts were unavailable from the vendor Geek Squad wants the repair company to use and my call, to Geek Squad, informing them that no parts for a repair equates to a product replacement. Within two days they approved the repair company to get the parts from another vendor. The certified repair company came out and replaced the “faulty” parts and spent three hours doing so. The repairman struggled to do his job due to lack of knowledge and tools (came in with a screwdriver and nothing else). Not only did I have to provide my tools for him to use, I had to also assist him in the repairs. After the “repairs” were complete, the issue was not resolved and damage was caused to my refrigerator. The damage included shelving bent and a large water leak within the refrigerator. Less than 24 hours after the “repair” there was approximately two gallons of water in the bottom drawer and bottom on the refrigerator. Geek Squad was notified that I know have an appliance that is damaged and still does not work as it should. Let’s see how good Geek Squad is. Hopefully it is replaced and not "repaired" by one of their certified repair companies.

We picked up this refrigerator on sale for about $500 off its listed price, When we got it delivered by two awesome Best Buy delivery guys we noticed a few things we did not notice in the show room with this refrigerator. The first thing was the outside finish shows every smudge, finger print and water stain, the second thing was the french doors and the way they close, you cant just swing them shut you have to push them shut it just got so annoying specially when your hands are full, the third thing was the large bottom crisper drawer would come off track just a little bit that made the drawer sticky and difficult to open, the ice dispenser on the front of the door delivered slow ice with many cubes broken into little ice chunks, and finally the fridge hums a lot, our currant fridge does that also but it does not seem as loud or maybe its just cause i hated this fridge so much i was bias? In any case Best Buy was awesome and worked with us to return this refrigerator and buy one about $400 cheaper then the Samsung's listed price and we are much happier now.

    Annoying Noise

I purchased this refrigerator May 2014. I love the layout of it but am very annoyed by a high pitched noise when the compressor runs. The noise is not continuous but goes on and off sometimes for short periods and other times for a very long time. I don't mind hearing a compressor running but this is ridiculous! As I'm sitting here typing this review, the house is very quiet except for this extremely high pitched noise. This cannot possibly be normal as my mother's Samsung (and other people I know who own a Samsung) does not make this noise. In addition to the noise problem, Samsung has been out to work on the ice maker because it was making crushed ice as well as cubed on the cube setting. Then Geek Squad had to replace the ice maker and then the water filter because water was leaking from the ice maker into the refrigerator. They can not figure out what is making the high pitched noise. I'm thinking I have a lemon. Very disappointed Samsung!!

My biggest gripe is the ice maker/dispenser . When on ice. Doesnt matter if it is on cubed or crushed- I get crushed or cubes with bits and pieces of crushed. Pieces go EVERYWHERE. Be prepared to grab a towel and wipe up the floor after every ice venture- it doesnt matter if the mouth of your glass is huge (which mine is)- its like the chips fly horizontally out of the despenser. Water trickles out at the beginning of every ice capture escapade, I am pretty picky about water getting in my drinks- I think the water from the melting ice is more than enough. Ice maker is TINY. We are a soccer family- this does not produce enough ice to handle a Saturday fill up of ice in the water bottles. We have the Gatorade water bottles- wide mouths and the ice still manages to not make it in. The shelves inside are nice- sturdy, we ended up taking one out because if you go to COSTCO and get anything taller there simply isnt enough "tall product space". For the price- I would have thought these things would have been perfected, but I know what to look for next time. O do love that I can see everything in the fridge.

I am disappointed with Samsung on this one... The fridge itself is great- brightly lit interior & very spacious with numerous shelf configurations available. The in-door ice & water option stinks! When you place your glass underneath and select the ice options, it dribbles a significant amount of water and then begins dropping ice. It takes FOREVER to switch from crushed ice back to cubed ice- I dump one full cup of crushed ice so I can fill up with cubes. I try to keep my stainless appliances spotless but can't keep the water marks off of the water/ice dispenser area. Water drips out when you close the fridge doors. Ice gets stuck in the mechanism and melts and drips. Every time I walk by my shinny new appliance, I wipe water drips and try to polish off water marks. Buy this model without the water/ice unit in the door!

    Attractive but LOUD

This is a nice looking refrigerator and I like that the shelves adjust. My old side by side didn't do that. My gripe is that it's loud. It makes sporatic knocking noises. It is especially unnerving late at night when you're sleeping and you hear this loud noise. My old side by side which was at least 12 years old wasn't as pretty but also wasn't this loud. I initially sent the fridge back and they replaced it with a new one (same fridge). Replacement fridge making same noise. After doing some research online I noticed that apparently this is a known issue with this fridge. Not cool. The instruction manual even addresses it in the FAQ section. If I had to choose again I would not chose this fridge due to the noise. If I could replace it with a different one I would but unfortunately the return period has expired. I paid for warranty on it but what can they do if that's just how it is. I probably should have done better research before buying and/or return period expired.

      Hi Girlygirl12,

There are a number of sounds a refrigerator can make that have different causes. In many cases, these sounds can be minimized by making minor adjustments to the leveling or amount of clearance provided for air circulation. If the sound is from the ice maker, you can turn the ice maker off during the times of day that you're home to prevent it from disturbing you. Please refer to the User Manual or online Troubleshooting Guide for troubleshooting suggestions, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to help determine whether the sound you're hearing might require service to address.

      Thank you,
      Ms. Samsung MsSamsung

Perspective from a buyer a little after year of ownership. I'm a big Samsung fan, but this refrigerator has fallen short. Most of our issues are with the ice maker and to put it simply, we have to buy bagged ice and store it. It never produced the volume of ice as described when new but it did fine. Now we get about 1lb per day. Often having to go at the storage unit with a flathead to chisel the build up away. Being that the icemaker is in the fridge, you cant simply defrost it. This ice maker has an 'off' that you can select to stop making ice, but unlike the icemakers of old.. it does not have an auto shut off bar. Its also very costly to replace the water filters which we seem to have to do about every 3months and manual says it is typically every 6months. The fridge itself is fine, but we could have saved some $$ going without the icemaker at purchase.

We have had this fridge for exactly two years now and about a year and a half after we got it we started having problems with the ice maker and had to have a repair man come out every two months to fix it. Water started coming out before the ice and the ice was slushy, it would stop making ice and we would have to wait another day to get any ice at all. When we first got the fridge we had issues with the freezer drawer making a squeaking noise when you open it. We called Best Buy and they did have someone come out right away and replace the drawer. Overall the fridge is nice, it is too bad you can't use the ice maker. For spending the amount of money we spent on the fridge I would like to have my ice maker work. I will not by another Samsung refrigerator.

    Ice maker drives you mad!

The frig and freezer are fine after 8 months however the ice maker is terrible! It freezes atleast 3 times a month! When this happened you have to remove the tray and scrap the ice off of the ice shoot. I scrape my knuckles up every time I have to do this! If you dont get the tray set back in properly, it will only give you crushed ice. I have also experienced the tray being frozen to the ice maker making it difficult to remove the already difficult tray. This problem, along with no available repair men that will work on samsung in the area will keep me from ever buying another samsung appliance again! If you use the ice daily as I do, stay away from this stupid frig.

First one delivered dripped water a lot. Best buy sent a delivery person out to look at it and they said it wasn't damaged in delivery so that was all they could do. Called and BB brought out a new one. Water drips from dispenser again Looked on line and took top cover off door and pushed together the hose as stated. Drained a LOT of water out of unit to make sure no air trapped inside. It gave a couple good burps of air and I thought good, got it. Not so much. Still drips water when it is used. Not right away but after maybe half an hour or so. I see lots of the same complaint online. I guess Samsung needs to do something about a better water valve to end problem. I am going to call them but I don't think I should have to go through this problem Best Buy was pretty good about it but still slow and if you have to call the geek squad I feel sorry for you.

We've had this fridge for less than a year. I hate it. We did our research before purchasing and went in store to check out this Samsung w/ through the door ice and wate fridge. This fridge is a finger print magnet. It is difficult to remove/clean the finger prints/ or any streaks. The ice maker on this SUCKS.. it takes forevvver to dispense ice, and it sprays water and ice everywhere. Water dispenser shoots out too strong, so if you're using something shallow, it would definitely splash everywhere. Then it drips on the fridge, making it difficult to clean. The bottom pull out freezer only pulls out about 6 inches making it impossible to put anything in there. Would not recommend this fridge.

My fridge has made a vibrating noise when it runs since I got it. My brother who is an electrician looked at it and said its because of the cheap plastic materials around the coil. I initially called Samsung and they said make sure the wheels are off the floor, which they are. Fridge has also been leveled. I should probably call Samsung again but it's a huge pain dealing with the help lines and you feel like you're on the phone for half the day. You spend this much money on an appliance and it's very disappointing when it's not working right from the get-go. I do like how the fridge/freezer is set up but the noise in a small house could end up driving me nuts. I should make that dreaded phone call....

    Ice Maker Woes

    Posted

This refrigerator looks nice, has shelves that are flexible, and is working fun. Except for the ice maker. It's slow no matter what, and ours froze solid where it took us two weeks for Samsung to come out and tell us it was frozen solid (there's no obvious button to open, we just knew we couldn't), and the solution on a one month old office frig was unplug it over the weekend, clean up water, turn on for a day to reset, and then now we have to empty the ice bin every week. From what I saw after day one earlier this week, we'll probably have to empty every day, there was always water forming and freezing starting. Bad design flaw, so frustrating!

I recently purchased this refrigerator. The product seemed to work ok but was noisy. We never hooked up the water/ice maker because the unit was damaged on delivery and we had to get another unit. Best Buy's delivery crew was very unprofessional and the person I have to talk to about the damages was rude and inconsiderate. Later I was told by a Best Buy representative that if you don't get free installation, you get a less experienced team. I thought I had free installation and if I knew all this, I would have made sure I had this or purchased elsewhere. Way more stress than I wanted for a refrigerator.

Since receiving the refrigerator, it has made intermittent noises which are annoying. I had a technician from Geek Squad look at it. He said it had something to do with the temperature being too warm. He changed it and emptied out the ice container. It was better for a few days, but now I'm experiencing the same problem. In addition, the storage shelves on the upper left side are so narrow (to accommodate the ice maker) that most of the space is unusable. I was really disappointed in the total storage space of the shelves.

I was so excited to get this product, finally upgrading to stainless steel. I did my homework and read reviews on this product. I am having trouble with ice maker in door (sometimes ice does not come out and I have to open ice door and grab ice). I recieved refrigerator without screws for the freezer door and cannot seem to get Best Buy to send them from manufacturer (visited store 2x and still no screws). inside shelves on door are fitted to accomodate the ice maker which I did not take into account-so not a lot of room for storing on door.

Bought this refrig in 2015 with a 5 year Geek Squad warranty. The ice maker would continually frost over and the defrost would freeze over, producing water in the crisper and bottom of the refrig. The Geek Squad did a good job repair and replace parts (they were great), but after 6 months, the condition would re-occur. After the 3rd repair visit, the Geek Squad declared this unit a 'lemon' and offer me an exchange for a new unit. I purchased a new LG refrig and am now extremely happy!

Very unhappy with my purchase. I was excited to have the wider shelves for storage, but I lost so much storage space. Sure you can move the shelves, but once you do it renders other parts useless or you have to lay down your items to fit. The storage space in the door is minimal and the left side is completely useless because the space is so small. The ice maker is very loud when it drops the ice into the ice box, and slow to dispense the ice into your cup. I wanted the side by side refrigerator but my husband convinced me to get this one. Now he feels bad about our purchase
