Don’t buy this sound bar, not only it does not support Atmos over ARC (the HDMI that connects to your TV), every update from Samsung breaks something, less than a year of use and the system is not connecting to WiFi anymore and has be a hit and miss on Atmos decoding

      Renato,

Thank you for purchasing the Samsung HW-K950 Soundbar System. I am sorry to hear that you were not completely satisfied with the user experience.

Please know that the request for Dolby Atmos through ARC is not related to the Soundbar, but to the source device. Please make sure your TV can pass through Dolby Atmos signals to the Soundbar.

Alternatively, you can make your Soundbar play Dolby Atmos content by connecting a capable device -- such as a Samsung UHD Blu-ray player-- to the K950 via HDMI. When an Atmos soundtrack is played back from the source device, the Soundbar light will illuminate blue and display “Dolby ATMOS” on the Soundbar screen. Also please check the external device you are using as it may require additional steps to pass Dolby Atmos – for example, if using a Samsung UHD Blu-ray Player, the UHD Blu-ray Audio setting need to be changed to “Bitstream (Uncompressed)”.

I am sorry to hear that you were not completely satisfied with the user experience and have returned your soundbar.

Please know that when the Soundbar is connected via Optical or Bluetooth connection and there is no sound for 5 minutes, the set turns off automatically, as these technologies do not have a method of sending power On/Off commands. You can avoid the auto shut-off by using HDMI or Wi-Fi connection.

      Gforce:

Thank you for purchasing the Samsung HW-K950 Soundbar with Dolby Atmos Technology. I am sorry to hear that you did not experience the full potential of this system.

A possible cause is that the rear speakers may appear disengaged because the Soundbar may be in stereo mode (no surround effect) when playing non-Atmos content.

Here are a few things you can try to improve the rear speaker performance:
      1) Connect the Soundbar to a network and upgrade the Soundbar to the latest firmware version.
      2) Check that Surround Mode is set to ON.
      3) Different effect modes (Standard > Music > Clear voice > Sports > Movie > Night mode) affect the levels of the surround speakers. Try a different effect to compensate for the source and room acoustics.
      4) Try toggling the DRC feature. Dynamic Range Control is a feature that affects the volume levels on Dolby Digital sources.
      5) Depending on the mode, the level of each speaker (including the Surround speakers) can be controlled individually.

      Daddy:

Thank you for your review of this Samsung product.

I am sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with this product's performance in your particular setting.

A common misunderstanding is that customers are not placing the soundbar with the SAMSUNG logo facing up towards the ceiling. If you position the soundbar with the logo facing up, you will see the display/status panel and the speakers will be facing outward. (Refer to product photos on BestBuy.com and zoom in on the photos) If you have incorrectly placed the soundbar with the display side down and the SAMSUNG logo perpendicular to the floor, you will experience muffled or low quality sound because the unit will be resting on the speakers.

You can also try the below to improve rear speaker performance:

AMAZING - sounds come from the ceiling & behind

I looked at expensive AV Receiver systems and planned to drill holes in my ceiling for speaker placement. But I thought to give this a try first. All wireless and no receiver needed. Just place the speakers under the TV and behind the sofa, then plug it in and everything self configures automatically. The height of front speaker bar does fit under most TVs - 4 inches seems typical. All speakers work with TV cable/satellite shows, gaming, DTS bluray, online streaming. The centers speakers are bigger than cheap soundbars, so the voices are loud and clear. If you haven't heard an ATMOS bluray, then you been missing out as the sounds do come from behind, above and all around you and it's very loud with the subwoofer. If it's not an ATMOS bluray, such as a DTS bluray or even TV cable, then the 5.1 sound comes from the artificial surround sound mechanism and it does a good job of it. The remote kind of sucks because they make it so small with fewer buttons nowadays. About the only complaint I have.

I really hate to be the "Too critical" guy, but here we go. I purchased this system along with my 75" QLED (Awesome TV). Very excited to enjoy the "Surround sound" experience; unfortunately, that didn't happen. I'm not talking about hearing vague sounds and such that normal Tv speakers won't produce, I'm talking about not near enough volume out of the rear speakers. Yes i adjusted the individual speaker volume all the way up on all 4 rear speakers, and yes I made sure it had the latest updates. Even talked to Samsung tech dept. on the phone. Was told the rears weren't meant to produce the main sounds that would come out of the soundbar, but rather background detailed sounds. I understand that completely, but if there isn't enough volume coming out of them to hear those details, then it doesn't matter what part of the audio they produce. I will say that I didn't play a 4K movie with atmos through the speakers, so they may have performed quite a bit better at that point. But most of our viewing is sports or regular TV shows off of the satellite, and I still want the sound to come from all around me for that. Also, part of the problem could be that this is in my open concept living room/kitchen with vaulted ceilings, and not in a dedicated media room. Having said that, I still had to put my ear within a couple inches of the speakers to hear any sound. They may be fine in a media room, but I still have my doubts that they would be loud enough then. Enough with the negative, the sound bar and sub sound pretty good to me. Also, there is quite a bit of adjustability for the sub to make it suitable to your liking. I put on an action movie from the DVR and was able to get the deep rumbles and movie theater like bass from the sub, and crisp sound out of the soundbar. I was just still missing the surround sound effect from the rears. I returned the system this morning for a refund and remain at a loss as to where to go from here. I don't have home wifi to run a Sonos style system, and it would take a lot of work to get the speaker wire hid on a wired setup. I guess I'm going to have to go without for a few years until something better is released.

Soundbar, subwoofer and rears couldn't have been easier to set up. I ran my K8500 4K player into the bar, then everything else through the ARC input and everything works like a dream. I highly recommend picking up some native Atmos content to really hear the potential, but you don't even need that. I turned on the sound field that essentially "upscales" everything to an Atmos like sound and was very surprised by how well it works. Even the morning news has a much wider sound stage and makes you feel like you're in the environment. I had VERY high expectations for this package and wasn't disappointed!

I recently had to take my vizio p series 55 inch back after geek squad found it to be defective. At the point of taking it back i was going to get the 38 inch 5.1 vizio soundbar to match the tv. Fortunately the tv shot craps during the week of cyber monday and I was able to exchange it or a samsung ks8000 SUHD tv and i have never been happier. So at this point i was looking at soundbars and noticed the k850 atmos setup in store. I was on the fence about this setup as the price was pretty hefty and i decided if i was going to get the setup i would rather have the kw950 but again the price was a bit much. My job participates in purchasing power and they sent me a cupon for soundbars so upon looking on the site i noticed they had the soundbar and with the cupon i wound up paying what i would pay for the 850 for the 950. I have had the soundbar for a little over a week and i must say it is absolutely incredible. Hands down this is the best soundbar setup i have ever heard. Prior to this i had a cheap little RCA 5.1 setup with a receiver and this soundbar out does it by miles. Setup was very easyand after the wifi update i dont have any complaints or problems with the rears that i have read. The system does very well with dts and any of the audio types that i have sent through it contrary to what i have read. I also use it to video game and here too the system shines. Even with the volume low the bass is very strong from the subwoofer and is used very creatively to simulate effects in the movies that i watch and the game. If you are in the market for a soundbar and are on the fence i would highly recommend this setup.

    So Far...So Good

Normally I'm a Bose fan, but when my Soundtouch 130 crapped out after 16 months I gave Samsung a look--and I'm glad I did. I first purchased the Samsung K650 3.1 soundbar with rear speakers for our bedroom's old SONY Bravia 46" TV. It made the bedroom sound better than the great room SONY 65" 4K TV with the Bose 130 system. When the Bose system died I got the Samsung KW850 with no rear speakers. I could never get the Dolby Atmos to work with the new SONY X-800 4K BD player--tried everything, it just wouldn't work. Sound was good, but not great from the KW850. Upgraded to the KW950, setup the rear speakers on stands behind the sofa, connected the Xfinity cable box to HDMI1, the SONY X-800 to HDMI2, and TV ARC to the SONY 850C. Put Deepwater Horizon in the BD pushed Play and was immediately blown away. "Dolby Atmos" flashed through the Samsung display window (the KW850 never did that--must have had a defective 850). As much as I enjoyed the Bose (when it was working) this KW950 blows the Bose away! The 950 has better separation--even without the rear speakers--and only playing Dolby 5.1 sound from the cable box. I know the 950 doesn't support DTS encoding, but I've only purchased 3 4K discs--all with Dolby Atmos--so far. I will play some older HD Blu-Ray discs, pre-Atmos, and see/hear how they look/sound upscaled. Hoping Samsung offers a firmware upgrade to include DTS.

    Awesome Soundbar

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I have read the reviews and based on all i have seen is that reviews can't be trusted. This sound bar is AMAZING when it is SET UP correctly with the right cables(hence why the Geek Squad offers services to set it up which they did for me). Not to mention this is an amazing PRICE for what you are getting. i mean a traditional Dolby Atmos setup is at minimum $3500+ when totaled together but you can get the soundbar for $1500?? This soundbar is a no brainer especially for its wireless capabilities since (other then power cables) the setup is wireless. Its even cheaper (and better) then Sonos. Not to mention this is backed by Magnolia which has always been top in audio solutions (i mean Bowers and Wilkins, Martin Logan, etc.) and after talking with them, they back only the quality products. So again to anybody who reads this, as long as you set it up right it will be the best audio solution you can get (and if you don't think you can set it up like i knew i couldn't, call the Geek Squad cause they did fantastic job)
