Really wanted this to work
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We were looking to pick a Home Theater for our apartment and we walked into the Magnolia home theater VA Beach store to check out some of the models we had shortlisted (which included Def tech, Sonos and Yamaha to name a few). We saw a demo of the Samsung K 850 and we were blown away with the crystal clear sound in the open area of Best Buy. We finalized the K950 and BB were helpful to do a 'Ship to store' service. After an agonizing 3 nights my K950 was ready for pickup. I rushed to BB to pick up my K950 and couldn't wait to unbox it. Unboxing didn't give me a great first impression. First, the box was slightly damaged with few rips. All the online reviews claimed there had to be a free Demo Blu-Ray(to experience True Dolby-Atmos). In the box I received, I couldn't find any. Most importantly I was not informed that Dolby-Atmos was not supported without the ARC. I own a Plasma tv released in 2009 and unfortunately mine doesn't support HDMI-ARC. This was a big letdown. I still was sincerely hoping this would somehow work. After connecting everything i realized that the woofer light and the rear speakers' lights were still blinking. I tried connecting through the app and it kept flashing a message that no speakers were found. I contacted Samsung and they confirmed that this could be a faulty unit. I returned to BestBuy, who promptly refunded my money. So if you are looking to buy this, don't buy it online(In order to avoid the hassle of returning). I felt the packaging was definitely a letdown for the price we pay and for optical cable the sound from the sound bar itself was very flat. I ended up picking the Def tech Wstudio Micro. I love that and it's a shame that my K950 wouldn't work. I learnt from Eric at the store that another gentleman had to return his unit due to the woofer dropping often. Maybe Samsung rushed our Shipment without doing due diligence. They have to take it back to the lab for more testing. This has potential but not the results.

Thank you for your review of the Samsung HW-K950 Soundbar featuring Dolby Atmos Technology. I am very sorry to hear that you are having difficulties with setup and have returned your purchase.
Should you ever give the Samsung HW-K950 another try, please see if the following resolves your issues:
To experience Dolby Atmos surround sound on your Samsung HW-K950 Soundbar, you need to do three things:
1) Connect your external device (such as a Blu-ray player) to your Soundbar via an HDMI cable.
2) Make sure that the Blu-ray player is set up to send the audio to the Soundbar as an `unprocessed bitstream'.
3) Make sure that the movie you wish to use is encoded with a Dolby Atmos soundtrack.
** You can view a video of the connections from our support site here: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/televisions-home-theater/home-theater/sound-bars
Regarding the blinking lights: This indicates that the subwoofer and surround speakers are trying to link, which normally occurs when connecting the Soundbar for the first time, or when turning off the unit. Rest assured all speakers are preset to automatically link out of the box. However, in the unlikely instance that a speaker needs to be re-linked, there is a simple procedure which can be found in the User Manual or on our support site here: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/televisions-home-theater/home-theater/sound-bars

This sound system is trash
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I spent 1200 on this system. It came today was supper excited. Hooked everything up turn it on and the sound bar was okay but the rear speakers hardly had any sound and staticy so moved them closer to the sound bar since it is wireless didn’t help. The rear speakers are pretty much none existent except for static and alittle bit of sound. So next would be the sub. MY WALMART 50$ SUB HAS BETTER QUALITY AND LOUDER. It is so aweful it only played alittle in the background even with it turned up all the way! Now to the sound bar itself. My Vizio 55” Walmart 100$ soundbar sounds just as good and is louder!!!!! Honestly spent 200$ on a Vizio sound bar and Sony sub and I had a better quality and louder.! I read instruction manual front to back followed every step it was hooked up correctly it was just trash. Within 2 hours of owning it. It has bin boxed up and heading back tomorrow! Anyone that looks at this system I strongly Advise you to stay away from it! It’s the biggest let down Ever! I’m insanely disappointed and upset since it was talked up so highly at bestbuy. Anyways this system is the worst. Stay away or be more disappointed than my wife is everynight!

Posted .James,
Thank you for purchasing the Samsung HW-K950 Soundbar with Dolby Atmos Technology. I am sorry to hear that you did not experience the full potential of this system.
A possible cause is that the rear speakers may appear disengaged because the Soundbar may be in stereo mode (no surround effect) when playing non-Atmos content.
Here are a few things you can try to improve the rear speaker performance:
1) Connect the Soundbar to a network and upgrade the Soundbar to the latest firmware version.
2) Check that Surround Mode is set to ON.
3) Different effect modes (Standard > Music > Clear voice > Sports > Movie > Night mode) affect the levels of the surround speakers. Try a different effect to compensate for the source and room acoustics.
4) Try toggling the DRC feature. Dynamic Range Control is a feature that affects the volume levels on Dolby Digital sources.
5) Depending on the mode, the level of each speaker (including the Surround speakers) can be controlled individually.

No DTS-HD Master Audio Codec
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.FYI, 90% of Blu-Ray movies are formatted for DTS-HD Master Audio, not Dolby Atmos. In laymans terms, the source being your Blu-Ray player is speaking Spanish and the soundbar only understands English. The K950 only supports DTS 2.0 channel if you look at the format list on Samsung's website. I would wait for a soundbar that supports both Atmos and DTS-HD Master Audio if you want to enjoy your current and new movies in true surround sound.

Don't buy this
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Stopped working after buying January 31st, randomly stopped connecting to the rear speakers and sub woofer. Samsung support are useless and I now have to somehow send a huge soundbar to them that's in otherwise perfect condition. There's no option to perform a reboot which it needs as it's somehow put itself into "shop mode" and shows a shop6 error when you try connect the speakers. Not what I expect from a $1400 sound bar. Save yourself some time and money and buy something else. Total garbage.

Not worth the money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First, we purchased this system 45 days ago, and it is not selling at only 2/3rds what we paid, that is $500 less, and the price guarantee is only 14 days. Our loss. Secondly, after about 35 days one speaker stopped working. We now have to find a box and ship the main unit and speaker back to Samsung for 7-14 days to be repaired. This system is not even worth what Best Buy is now charging for this system. I would not advise anyone to buy this system with so many other great choices out there.

Wanted to love it
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted to love it so bad. Don’t let others fool you by sale prices or special deals. The rear wireless speakers are a joke and the sub barley thumps ever, movies or straight from audio source. You might think you are getting good bass, that is until you pit it against the Bose. I decided to go buy the Bose Soundtouch 300, Subwoofer and surround sound speakers to compare. I hate say it but I returned the Samsung. The Bose were more money but MUCH better. The Bose were worth every penny and matched to my Samsung Q9 TV, it’s great! Sorry Samsung, Bose beat ya this time.
