I bought the 65" size of this TV after looking at the TCL 65R615/617, LG Nano 8 and 9, Vizio Quantum M and P series TV's. We decided to put our old TV (which was a 55" Samsung LCD into a bonus room upstairs for the kids and needed a new family room TV. With the new TV downstairs I also decided that I wanted a sound bar (instead of a hifi reciever driven surround sound system) bc the sound bars are great technology, it would simplify our speaker layout in the family room and it would offer us 1 remote control to use for the entire viewing experience.
Regarding the TCL, LG Nano and Vizio TVs I made some observations which lead me to choose the Samsung. The TCL is the second highest rated TV on many online reviews for both picture quality and Operating System and sells for less than $1000, it also has the ROKU Operating System (which is supposed to be great). I ultimately did not choose the TCL becuase there were numerous reported quality issues with the actual LCD panel and I could not see a decent video/TV show/movie playing on it in the store. The Vizio looked great but the majority of its Operating System is run through one's phone, there were report of the Operating System being slow too and I wasn't wild about that, plus their app store is smaller. Plus side to the Vizio is with their OS you don't get ads but the ads you get on the samsung are limited to one recommendation on the home screen so its not a bother. I really liked the LG Nano 8 but the Nano 9 is the entry level series with local dimming (Nano 9 is noticeably brighter than the Nano 8 too) so the LG Nano 8 was crossed off my list and then finally the majority of reviews online said the Nano 9 was not so great for watching movies. We don't always watch movies but we do watch in the day time and in a darker room at night so that pushed me to the Samsung even though I really thought the Operating System of the Nano 9 which seemed to be more smooth thans Samsung (though some don't like the LG OS as well). So I looked at the Samsung Q60, Q70 and Q80.
Samsung Q80 - I looked at the Q60, Q70 and Q80. The black levels on the Q80 were noticeably better than the Q60 or Q70 because the Q80 has a 3 layer glossy screen and the glare reduction of the Q80 was far superior (bc of the 3 layers). Also the Q60 does not have local dimming. I chose the 65" to be larger than my old 55" but to me the 75" would be just too big for my wall ( 12'-6" x 9' ) and for my viewing position ( 15' ) away. The picture is GREAT, clear bright crisp, seems to upscale well and has super deep blacks. The viewing angle is great for our room. it does movies and TV shows great. I have noticed some motion effects associated with the local dimming like when a home run baseball is hit and arcs through the screen but only once. I have not noticed any Judder or Stutter on wide panning effects in landscape type overview panning scenes in movies or TV shows. I have the TV connected to a Samsung Q70R sound bar with remote subwoofer (HDMI arc port), a DVD blue ray player, and the AT&T uverse cable box. I also subscribe to Netflix, and Amazon prime which gives access to Amazon prime music also.
Pros:
PICTURE great quality, deep blacks, great motion, crisp details
Great black uniformity (no bleed through).
Awesome glare reduction.
Easy set up, though to get AT&T uverse to work with the remote I did have to go into manual set up mode and search for my set top box.
Customizable home screen for apps.
App store with many choices
APPLE Air Play 2 onboard and ready to go
ONE Remote for cable, sound bar, Amazon
Simple Remote (the remote has just the layout)
Great phone app to control the TV when my kids loose the remote!
Ambient mode - place family photos on the TV or have images of artwork or landscapes on the TV when its not in use.
Responsive Operating System.
Built in internet search engine
Voice control seems to work OK but im still getting the hang of it.
Remote fits nicely in my hand.
Cons:
TV has a single Advertisement on its home screen.
Remote control doesn't have a number pad which some might prefer.
Sometimes the sound mode seems to change modes seems to change at random.
Some characteristics of the ROKU operating system are better
Remote might have limited range in a larger room than mine.
I wish there was some sort of overview or training app to walk through all the functionality of the TV. But one can find enough reviews online to do this.
Price - it is the most expensive TV that I looked at. If I wanted to save money the Samsung Q70 would have been my second choice and I might not have noticed the lack of black level and less glare reduction that it offered after getting it home.
Samsung does want you to set up an "account" and so for those concerned about "big brother" monitoring your tv viewing choices this could be a concern.
Remote might feel slippery or too small for medium to large handed people (my ring size is a 10 I think for reference).
I have owned this for 2 weeks. Im not an AV specialist or into spending alot on this stuff and the last time I bought a TV it was because my rear projection TV died in 2008. this will be the second TV in my house.

I really didn’t need to replace my 6yr old 7 series 55” Samsung TV, but I was wanting to upgrade to 4K UHD capability. I was looking at OLED by LG and compared it to Qled models by Samsung. Technically, Qled is still LED technology but they’re brighter overall and don’t run the risk of “Burn in”. I’ve had great luck with both my previous Samsung tv’s so I was leaning that way again. So which series? For the money, the 70 series is budget friendly. I opted to go to the 80R. Why? Direct led lighting v.s edge lit. Ultra wide viewing angle, and a 40watt sound system. The blacks are ultra dark and the colors just pop. Spend a little more, you won’t regret it. My only nit pick is the metal feet don’t screw into place, they just snap in but it’s not a tight fit.

I bought a new house and it needed a bigger TV. My living room is very bright during daylight hours, so I was trying to find something that reduced glare. I originally bought a 65” LG OLED. I had to take back because it was way too reflective. I couldn’t be happier with the Q80 in the same situation. I can keep the blinds open and watch without issue. (Note that the Q80 is the lowest series with the anti-glare engineering from Samsung). The two photos both show the LG when mounted. The Q80 is on the floor in the second one to show the comparison. It is literally night and day. You can’t even see me taking the picture in the reflection of the Q80.

Great picture. The only thing I would gripe about is on certain channels even in HD, the picture is hit or miss. But in 4K it’s amazing. Great blacks, great whites, brightness and contrast is great and no dirty scree affect or blooming. I almost picked up the Q90R but made a good choice. I had the Q70R and exchanged it for this one as the Anti-Reflection coating and wide angle viewing make it a no brainer to spend the extra $$ especially with the sale right now.

Just mounted this t.v in our living room replacement for 10 year old Samsung hd 46 inch and what a difference in picture quality. Just to darn impressive and smart features are a plus. Me and the wife were impressed at the display model and had to get this Q80 Series .no complaints as of first week of use .blacks are correctly awesome and whites are soo bright but well balanced to make the picture pop .

I sat in front of the TV viewing wall in Best Buy. and kept on coming back to this one. Once I got it home, I took my old TV off the wall, and was very happy to find out that my TV mount fit this one, once it was up and running....HOLY CATFISH! I see things I never saw before on the shows that I watch...WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!

I was undecided between q70 and q80 but i compared them in the store and the q80 has more color and brightness, and blacks are really black . I am very happy with my choice , I do not say that the q70 is not good it is very good tv , but the Q80 is better and I can look at it from any angle whithout losing colors and the ligth in my living room is not reflected. !!!

Thank goodness I spoke to my son before purchasing our new tv as he is extremely knowledgeable and steered us in the right direction.
We spent more than originally anticipated but like he said you will thank me after and believe me I did.
He said if your buying a 4K get one with the highest WCG (wide color gamut) that it comes in so we did and we couldn’t be happier I didn’t even know what that meant until he explained it to me.
Also the model we got works well in all light conditions a huge plus even with curtains opened on a sunny day you can see the tv the same as in a darker room a huge plus and worth the extra bucks.
Bottom line do research before buying a tv of course we could of gotten that 10K model like my son had there is always bigger and better but this is perfect for us.
We also bought the compatible sound bar for ease of set u and the sound is better than my previously owned Bose system..
Samsung makes make great products you can’t go wrong:)
Happy customers

We are moving and needed a bigger tv. If you are looking to "try" to get ahead of technology, this is your tv. QLED come in 60, 70, 80 and 90 versions and found the 80 to be the best for the money. The Black Friday in July sale brought this price to $15 above employee discount pricing (dont ask how I know that...)

Our son helped persuade us to buy the Samsung 65”Q80 and we are so happy we did. Paired with the Samsung 7.1 Soundbar creates a movie theater like atmosphere. We are now spoiled. Easy to use with Hulu, Netflix and Amazon Prime. No need for cable. Thanks BestBuy for your assistance and the free delivery.

Picture quality amazing. Darks spot on point. If your looking for great quality at a reasonable price this is for you. I went compared QLED models for almost 2 months before deciding on this 1 which is minor features less than the Q90 and a massive price difference.

Now this TV is pure awesome.. The Black uniformity an levels are awesome.. The brightness and colors are beautiful.. This is a great movie watchers tv.. It Upscales beautifully.. This TV is also GREAT for the Gamer.. With Freesync ultimate capabilities VRR and ALLM capable.. it has a game mode that is truly awesome for gaming I recommend it because the Latency is almost down to 14 MS with black enhancer for gaming.. the only draw I will say This TV has is his does not shut completely down.. it's the only TV I know that only basically has the option to go on standby even if you turn off the anynet and turn off Via mobile. I asked Samsung why they would make a TV could not fully turn off and did not get an answer.. Also I'm not sure about the 2.1HDMI capabilities but they said there was an update for it but the Q80 was not going to get HFR witch is 4K@120Hz.. which I think is very stupid of Samsung not to put that on these TVs.. But Who knows Samsung could change it up and add it. The viewing angles on this TV are great. Great tv

I upgraded my HD TV to this smart TV after weeks of investigation.
It was ultimately the best TV for the $$. I reviewed the difference between QLED and OLED and found that there was a concern over screen burn in with the OLED even though the OLED offered a slightly better picture.
I just wish my media center could accommodate a larger unit!
I am looking forward to going off the GRID too!

Waited until the specs for the 2020 QLEDs were released and realized the 2019 version was so much better for a cheaper price. Bought an open box TV to save a few extra dollars and ended up pairing it with a Q70 Soundbar... Everything from the menus, the apps, and the picture has looked/worked flawlessly. The anti-glare coating was difficult to clean at first, but once you get the hang of it, it really does work and look amazing. This TV is so much more responsive and capable than my previous Sony TV from 2016, which I suppose is to be expected, but it's really night and day between the two... I was a Sony loyalist, but I've switched my loyalty to Samsung for now...

Samsung - 65" Q80. GREAT buy.
Quick delivery and easy setup. Picture was amazing with bright colors and dark blacks.
Sound was a little thin, so I added a Samsung HW-R550 with 2.1-Channel 320W soundbar System with 6-1/2" Wireless Subwoofer. The soundbar fits nicely between the feet. Connected it through HDMI4 (ARC) to get better sound for daily use. Otherwise sound goes through an Onkyo receiver for complete surround sound.
I had no need to spend the extra $ for the Q90. The One Connect Box might be worth it for wall mounting and depending on how you run you cables.

I've been wanting a 4K tv for a few years. My previous samsung LED had served me well, but I was ready for the next level. I didnt want to just buy any old 4k tv. I wanted something that's top of the line but not a fortune. After many weeks of research I decided that Q80 was the tv for me. It has not disappointed. The picture quality is amazing. Everything I watch looks so much better on this tv. I am very pleased with my decision and highly recommend this tv to anyone looking for a high quality 4k tv that isn't a bank buster.

We purchased this TV as an upgrade to the 65" Class Q6FN QLED Smart 4K UHD TV (2018). Out the box, the picture is awesome!, If you have an AppleTV 4K, you are in for a treat! However, my biggest surprise was the sound. More specifically, how well the sound was balanced using ARC and connecting to my HW-MS650 Sound+ Premium Soundbar and Subwoofer for Sound+ Soundbars model # SWA-W700/ZA. There is a night an day difference between the picture quality - sharper with Chroma 4.2.2 on AppleTV 4K and more defined sound out.

It’s kinda funny how things work out. At Christmas time my husband and I were just looking at new TV technology. Then in June our 12 year old TV went out. We came back into Best Buy and the same salesperson who had talked with us in December was working that day. So we again discussed all the options and ended up buying the Samsung Q80 series TV. We loved it in the store both times and it is just as amazing in our home!
