It provides a great picture and “not bad” sound for a thin tv. I use an external sound system rather than the tv sound as I haven’t found any LCD tv with a good speaker system. There’s no place to house good speakers. The four hdmi inputs are satisfactory. The smart system is excellent, providing all the apps that I need, and easy to navigate. I use the optical digital output to feed a Zvox speaker to enhance audio in addition to my receiver based audio. I am a little disappointed that the tv won’t pass surround audio from the receiver through to the digital optical output like my former set did. That’s the reason I didn’t give a five star rating to this set.

Thank you for purchasing Samsung’s QN85A TV and for your review. We appreciate you sharing your experience with setting up your TV audio to play through your AV receiver. If you connect an external audio device using an optical cable, the Sound Output setting automatically changes to the connected device. However, to make this happen, you must turn on the external audio device before connecting the optical cable.
1) When connecting the Optical cable between the TV and AV receiver, make sure that the sound output is set to Optical on your TV.
2) In case of HDMI eARC connection, make sure that it is connected to the eARC dedicated HDMI port on your TV. However, the eARC can be used only when the AV receiver supports the eARC feature.
Please also check whether Digital Output Audio Format is set to Pass-Through. If you select the Pass-Through option to use an AV receiver that does not support Dolby Digital+, no sound is output with Dolby Digital+ content. We recommend setting the Digital Output Audio Format to Auto if the connected receiver supports only the limited audio formats. Go to Settings > Sound > Expert Settings > Digital Output Audio Format > Auto

Thank you for your review of the QN85A Neo QLED 4K Smart TV. Neo QLED uses advanced AI to analyze your content and bring you hyper focused brightness and dimming in all the right areas.
You can choose from different Picture Modes to suit your preferences. Go to Home > Settings > Picture > Picture Mode to choose from (Standard, Natural, Movie, Dynamic, & Filmmaker Mode. If the image is defined as Filmmaker Mode, it will automatically switch to Filmmaker Mode while watching.)
Intelligent Mode enables the TV to recognize and analyze the surroundings, noise, content, and your usage patterns to provide the best viewing experience. You can enable Intelligent Mode by going to Home > Settings > General > Intelligent Mode Settings. Adaptive Picture, which is among the options, optimizes brightness and provides the best picture quality in real time, based on the lighting condition and your content.
