This ssd is fast, much faster than my aging intel 530 that I replaced it with. I get consistant speeds. This drive is however not going to be much faster than the EVO counterpart and in real world tests unless you are constantly creating and writing huge files (video editing), save yourself 25%-30% and go with the 850 evo.

This is a great SSD. I decided on it because of the 10 year warranty. The things I ran into are one this drive is thinner than the HD in my laptop. It's not much thinner but just enough that it was possible to push it all the way into the HD slot without engaging the connectors. At first I thought it wasn't compatible with my old laptop as the BIOS reported no hard drive. A little searching online found the fix pull the drive back out and adjust it's angle a little bit and make sure you could feel the connectors seat as you pushed the disk back in. The second thing was using the Samsung Magician software I found I had some reliability issues running optimized for speed on my nine year old Dell Latitude D820. Using the setup for maximum reliability the disk has been rock solid. I first cloned my Windows 7 HD to the new disk then did an upgrade to Windows 10. While the Samsung Magician software reported it was the latest version a newer version was available at their web site that fully supports Windows 10. Even with my old laptop that can't fully utilize all the performance features of this SSD it makes booting/shutting down and opening apps very fast. I have an i7 desktop with 12GB of RAM I use for things I need processor performance like photo editing but for general web browsing and simple word processing/spreadsheet work it's nice to keep the old laptop running sitting in an easy chair in the living room. If I end up replacing the laptop any time in the near future I can put my old HD back into the laptop and use this SSD to swap out a less expensive drive option in the new laptop.

The price of these drives keeps dropping and I decided to get a couple for the kids' computers. Honestly, I see an all-around performance increase...not just in boot time (which takes about 5 seconds total), but in loading programs and even with running games to some extent. It won't be long before mechanical drives go the way of the floppy disc. Until then, get yourself one of these and replace your slow drive. BTW, people complain about the software but the latest version works perfectly with windows 10 and below. I had zero issues cloning my drives with it on 3 different laptops. I'm writing this several weeks after the upgrades and still not a single problem....

My wife has a 4 year old Dell XPS L702X laptop with a 598gb HDD. This drive physically installed effortlessly. However, since this 512gb SSD drive replaced a 598gb HDD drive I wasn't able to use my Dell restore discs. The Dell install app stopped the restore process because the new drive was not the same size (in gigabytes) as the old. So I found an old Win 7 disc and did a fresh install. Then upgraded to Win 10. Then went on a driver hunt. Wow, is this thing fast! Laptop boot time from power on to login prompt went from 112 seconds with the old drive to 13 seconds with this new SSD. Login time from hitting Enter at login to ready to run went from 75 seconds to 8 seconds. I'm very, very impressed! Now, I have to do my desktop PC....

If your computer/laptop can run one of these drives, and you currently have a mechanical hard drive, you need to get one of these. The speed of a SSD vs a standard HDD is insanely faster. Boot times and loading times are slashed. What's more, there are no moving parts so it is quiet and more durable.

My mid-2012 Macbook Pro started slowing down with Mavericks and even more so with Yosemite. This SSD was an easy install and paired up with a Mavericks downgrade my once slow Mac is smoking fast. Also pairing this with an external HD that runs the programs and files helps as well. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a performance increase but does not want to purchase a new machine. Be weary of Yosemite using Trim Enabler with this SSD as it requires disabling kext signing . For those that are not familiar with trim and the compatibility issues with 3rd party SSDs....Google it.

This is the ninth SSD I purchased made by Samsung. Most are the PRO series, but one was an EVO. They are all a major improvement over conventional HD's. Boot time went to less than 12 seconds, and battery life in laptop increased significantly. PRO series has great warranty too, hope I never have to use it.

Replaced a 840 EVO ssd with the 850 PRO. Huge difference in the speed between the two drives. Start-up and all applications start tremendously faster. The 840 EVO is a great drive but the 850 Pro is even better. I now use the EVO as my secondary drive in a Toshiba Qosmio X875 laptop. The drives work seamlessly together.

Investing in the hard drive brought my Macbook Pro (Mid 2012) back to life. It has never performed as goo as it does now. It takes about 25s to boot up and the speed is amazing. My laptop is better than it was the 1st day I bought it

I've been looking at upgrading the hard drive on my 2010 MacBook Pro for a while after upgrading to Yosemite, which made it extremely slow. For a while I thought it was RAM related, but I noticed that Yosemite allocates files differently and was made with SSD speeds in mind, so I figured the only way to get my baby purring again is to upgrade. Swapping out the hard drives was pretty simple, and I just did a simple recovery from Time Machine instead of a fresh install of Yosemite. PROBLEM SOLVED! My MacBook Pro is blazing fast again, the hang ups it had looking for files is gone, and everything is snappy. I went from waiting 4 minute boot up times to now just waiting maybe 30 seconds. It's fast and I love it. There's cheaper SSD's to go with, but I work with a lot of big files doing photo and video editing so I wanted the best. You will not be disappointed.

I have had no issues to date with this drive and currently using it as my boot drive for laptop. It reduced my boot-up by a factor of 10+. Very fast startup now. Samsung drive comes with data transfer software, I utilized Acronis Migration Easy 7.0 which is free for 14 days. I consider this money well spent, was considering new computer but what for. New drive fixed my worries and I am back on track.

Macbook Pro 2009 15" 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 8 gb works great with this bad boy. It was super easy to install and I love it. I cannot describe the speed increase but it truly is amazing. This computer may seem old but runs brand new. I am thrilled with this hard drive. Also, when I upgrade it is Sata 6 vs some older computers can only handle 3 depending on processor so it is great when I finally do make a change too. Also, good memory and overall ease of use. I am not super tech savy but I installed in under 5 minutes.

I purchased an Asus 2-in-1 Q552U laptop a little over 6 months ago and swapped its internal 1TB mechanical drive for a new Samsung 850 Pro 512GB Solid State Drive and love it. I wanted the higher stability for a portable device, the better performance for a longer period, and the greater speed for my work that solid state drives promise. And that computer with that SSD is fast. It takes all of 7 seconds for start-up bios, with the speed feeling almost the same as turning on a light switch. Doing an “intelligent sector” clone of C using Macrium free version takes 8 minutes, and doing an exact copy (copying empty space as well as data space) takes 1 hour and 20 minutes—and that is through a USB port to an external spin drive (The 1TB that came out of the computer was put in an external case to serve as a clone back-up.). Webroot Secure Anywhere Antivirus and Security already has a light footprint. With the SSD, the entire computer is scanned in 35 seconds. The Pro version has a 10-year warranty and the faster speeds. If buying an SSD in conjunction with the purchase of a new computer for upgrading the computer’s drive, it might also be worth considering the Geek Squad Protect and Support plans. While I typically do not buy service and warranty plans, it is an excellent investment if swapping the drive. The drive change is covered under the Plan, the manufacturer’s warranty is going to be void upon changing the drive, the Geek Squad Plan can substitute for that warranty, and there is a certain amount of set-up required for a change-out from the HD to the SSD. I bought the plan which covered the install, and I am very glad that I did. Note that some settings and maintenance schedules may need changing for the SSD. A couple of great articles helpful to me were “SSD Optimization Tips for Windows 10 You May Want to Know” (at disk-partition dot com), “12 Things You Must Do When Running a Solid State Drive in Windows 7” by Miguel Leiva-Gomez (at maketecheasier dot com), and Scott Hanselman’s article at hanselman dot com titled, “The Real and Complete Story – Does Windows Defragment your SSD?” I made sure to enable TRIM, and it may be helpful to discuss the points important to you with those doing the swap before swapping. This is a great drive and will put your machine in steed for the technology of tomorrow.

Awesome SSD. My 2012 MacBook Pro became quite slow after the usage over years, however replacing the drive has made it again like new. The boot time has reduced form 3:25 to just 25 seconds. I am very happy with the purchase.
