The Samsung 970 EVO is a great investment for power users looking for fast, durable and reliable storage for high-end systems compatible with M.2 NVMe SSDs.

Once I was done installing Windows 10 on this drive and properly configuring my bios to boot off a M.2, I was good to go. Verify that your motherboard supports a M.2 slot (as this does not come with some kind of PCI-E adapter).
Download the Samsung Magician software from their website to keep an eye on your drives health status and run benchmarks and prepare to have your mind blown. With read/write speeds pushing 3,000mbps+ it far surpasses the speed of a typical spin drive of 100-200mbps and a standard 2.5" solid state drive of 500-600mbps.
Windows is guranteed to boot and reboot under 30 seconds, and if you have programs to start up with windows, you'll also see minimal impact. It's a great piece of tech, that's easily worth the 80$ sale price for the 250gb model.

Drastically increased boot times and read write have been phenomenal. Will be getting a 1tb for storage soon. Highly recommend. One of the easiest and least expensive ways to boost a system.

I installed a Samsung 850 EVO and 860 EVO (Nvme) in my Lenovo Y700 some time ago and had absolutely no issues with them, so when I bought a new Dell 7375 as a light machine to carry around and wanted to replace the SATA m.2 drive with something a little bit more speed, I naturally went to the 870. The problem is that I was not 100% if the Dell 7375 had full support for Nvme. The specs say SATA, but the BIOS has an option to activate PCI express (???). I found 2 people who were unsuccessful installing other Nvme models, but that was only 2 reviews, not enough to definitively confirm Mvme is not supported (this Dell model is still relatively new with few very detailed reviews). I took my chance... and well, it doesn't work. I returned the drive because I sadly had no other use for it. So for buyers out there, double and triple check this is compatible with your hardware. I still give 5 stars retroactively for the 2 other fantastic Samsung drives I own (which I purchased at BB) and I have no doubt the 970 is a really good drive (and surprisingly cheap considering the performance).

We've all seen how much praise SSDs have garnered in the current year, and this drive is absolutely no exception to that rule. In fact, I'd argue that Samsung of all manufacturers is the gold standard by which other SSDs are judged.
I bought this drive as an addition to a brand-new HP laptop that I purchased earlier in the day and I had the fine folks over at my local Geek Squad set everything up for me. In short, the boot times sped up significantly from an agonizing 62 seconds to a blazing fast 5.4 seconds. In the case of using this as your boot drive, I'm happy to report that any lag I experienced prior is now completely gone in day-to-day tasks.
Honestly, the only thing I really have to complain about is the cost, specifically how $99.99 for 250GB seems quite exorbitant. Granted, this is an NVMe drive which is much faster than a standard M.2 SATA III drive. However, Kingston's own A1000 SSD is available for purchase on BestBuy.com as well. That SSD is 240GB, but it's priced much more reasonably at $49.99. Now, if you're a power user who craves the absolute best of the best, then the Samsung 970 EVO is definitely the drive for you. With that said, if all you want is an SSD to simply speed up a dying or otherwise slow system, then this would be much more expensive solution that ultimately won't net you much benefit in the end.
Would I recommend it to a friend? Well, yes obviously but not as a "must-have." This is more of a wish list item than anything else.

This SSD is the only drive I own that can saturate my gigabit internet connection. It's been a pleasure to use ever since I got it. Installation was simple (M.2 form factor is like that) and it definitely takes advantage of the NVMe protocol. I chose a relatively small drive because I keep all my large files and games on hybrid drive. It's working great as a boot drive!

My setup, Intel i7 8700 CPU, MSI pro gaming carbon motherboard 16GB of ram ddr4 2600, soon to be 32GB, a stock fan with this Samsung 970 PCIe Evo (boot), and a 950 PCIe pro (data). my pc boots to the login screen in about 4-5 seconds after the post screen (ubuntu 18.04 desktop, launching google is instantaneous, in the past I would have to wait several seconds, about 30 or so to lunch my IDE (IntelliJ), it now springs up in about 2-3 seconds...mind you I launch IntelliJ, Webstorm, chrome (about 10-20 tabs at a time, on startup), and 1 or more terminal windows all at the same time. I'm up and running within seconds, not minutes. I have seen a considerable difference in speeds, from my previous Windows 10 setup, which was also running on a Samsung SATA SSD with a max of about 550MB/s...that SATA drive will now serve as a data drive on my new machine.

Great and Fast Storage with ZERO Wires

If you've ever built a PC, you will understand that storage drives usually need wires in the form of SATA power and SATA data cables. Well thanks to M.2 form figure, you don't need the wire and all you really need is the socket on the motherboard. Thankfully, most motherboards nowadays have M.2 sockets so you can use something like this just fine.
If you have support for NVMe (check your manufacturer page), then you can also run this at fast speeds. This will be beneficial to people who have tasks and applications that take advantage of the extra read/write speeds. If you don't have that, then you should honestly just stick to a SATA drive or an M.2 SSD using SATA speeds.
Otherwise, this is a great SSD and even has good value for an NVMe drive compared to previous drives from the likes of Samsung.

FANTASTIC UPGRADE

This was on sale and it was a great choice to upgrade too. I bought the ibuyPower PC that was on sale and it had a 1tb HDD. HDD's will slow down and upgrading the SSD is the best thing you can do for your computer. It's so fast.
This was also on sale. I sacrificed space to buy this. I could of got of got WD Blue 500 GB which would have been nice for space but the M.2 was less Physical space and easy to install.
both products were on sale during the time of this review. I exchanged The WD Blue 500 GB for the Samsung 970.
Any SSD is a Great upgrade for your boot drive.

I upgraded my os drive from a Sandisk ssd to this Samsung NVMe dirve, and it is extremely fast. I also save my current projects to the ssd, it's having to save a 2+gb file every 15 minutes. Even though it only saves it 2-3 seconds faster, it makes a big difference when i'm simulating a program and the auto-save takes place. Also the price is pretty competitive, especially considering the performance, and also the longevity.

I've had many Samsung SSDs and they've all been great. This one really is quite amazing due to it's size and ease of use. It went in easy into my m.2 slot and recognized immediately. I'm using this in a Desktop Ryzen 5 2600x with 8GB of ram and it boots in under 10 seconds. Phenomenal performance and would buy again!

What can I say? Samsung 970's are the 2nd fastest SSD's available (Intel Optane 905P is 1st). It is the size of a stick of Juicy Fruit. It uses very little power, It doesn't get very warm. And it is insanely fast. Boot times from power button to Windows desktop is sub 10 seconds.
Pros: read the above statement
Cons: it can't make the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs

This m.2 ssd is one of the best in the market and listed at a great price. It has easily made my computer at least 5x faster. The speeds are as advertised which was unexpected because most products like these are typically a little less then their advertised speeds. I actually am getting a little faster then normal speeds so that’s awesome. I believe anyone who buys this product will be extremely satisfied.

The drive was easy to install and is quick almost having the same performance as the Pro version. It stays cool if you have thermal pads and/or good case ventilation/cooling. For best performance be sure to download and install the Samsung NVME driver and Magic Software for monitoring.

Really fast drive. I have this in an HP Envy x360 with the Ryzen 5 processor. I previously upgraded the ram to 16gb of Ballistic ddr4 2400 ram, so this ssd was my last upgrade to the machine and it replaced a 7200rpm hard drive HP originally installed. I had the tech take out the old hard drive while doing the install because I don't need the room and didn't want the extra battery drain, and they did a fresh install of Windows 10 with all necessary drivers onto the drive before giving it back. According to the samsung software, I am getting 1517mb/s write and 2618mb/s sequential read speed. The drive lowered my boot up to approximately 7 seconds from pressing the power button, to the facial recognition seeing me and completely logging in, and opening up my mail or an application.

I bought this drive as my first nvme drive. I wanted to move my operating system to the fastest possible media. As things go there are slight differences between sata ssd performance and nvme ssd performance that you can notice. we aren't talking the difference between mechanical drives and ssd's in general, but there is a difference. Still, my gaming rig just seems to be a little happier so I am happy with my purchase. I run a lot of programs at start up which slows my system down and I am still booted in about 30 seconds. I think with a clean boot sequence I would probably clock in around seven to fifteen seconds. Your hard drive is only one component of system performance, but it does help with that snappy feel we all want to see in a computer.
