I was having booting problems so I downloaded the Samsung software and tested it and it failed. I have not did send it to Samsung because I can't find how to do a RMA

Samsung stands behind the quality and performance of every 970 EVO Plus SSD we manufacture with a limited 5-year manufacturer’s warranty when purchased brand-new, directly from any authorized dealer, like Best Buy.

I bought it for it's good reputation, but had to return it. BestBuy was very fair about that.

Make sure to search which brands are currently doing this and avoid them accordingly. They could've listed the downgraded SSDs as their own thing but instead tried a stealthy bait and switch with an existing marketed component and hoped nobody would notice. The 979 Evo Plus models that have these cheaper components have the PN: MZVL21T0HBLU

Thanks for purchasing the Samsung 970 EVO Plus SSD for your memory storage needs. I understand the confusion you have regarding the new version of the 970 EVO Plus.
Please know that Samsung is always aiming to use newer and superior quality components in our SSDs. The controller in the new 970 EVO Plus is the same new Elpis controller in the premium Samsung 980 PRO SSD and the NAND is a new version of our 3D TLC NAND. With these changes, we have nearly tripled the SLC cache which results in better performance when operating within the new and larger SLC cache. However, the performance does degrade when the SLC is exhausted. We believe the larger SLC cache will provide a better experience for majority of the users.

Benchmark test results may differ depending upon the system environment, host software and hardware configuration. I encourage you to call Samsung Customer Support to better diagnose and assist you with your speed issue.
