Overall, I am very happy with this purchase. I find that I use the camera more often than the phone camera for quick shots, though one must take care to ensure the window remains free of "finger grease" or the image will be blurry. When an email comes in (from any account the phone is configured for), you get the notification and can view a preview. Photos do not display, but all of the text is there. You can not reply to an email from the watch. When an text message comes in, you get the notification and can view the message. Again, photos do not display, but all of the text is there. You can reply to text messages using pre-configured templates. The Galaxy Gear app comes with some basic templates, but you can add whatever you'd like. You can also use the text templates to respond to phone calls that you decide to not answer... simply swipe "ignore" and then if you'd like, send a template message, such as "I'm in a meeting" or "I'm driving" The watch has a speakerphone built in, but use of the speaker (for phone or music) really hammers the battery. The watch has limited memory for music, but the speaker quality just isn't "there" and given that you are going to have your smartphone with you, I don't see the need to duplicate the music player in the watch. There are precious few apps available, and functionality is not 100%. I was happy to see clock face apps available that had a second hand, but upon using them, I found that my battery life was horrible, and the display would revert to the basic Samsung screen at least once a day. I just leave it at the clock/weather screen now. Another 3rd party app that I find very useful allows you to toggle various functions on the phone, such as very easily mute it for a movie, nice dinner, or a meeting (the watch will still vibrate), and the "sleep monitoring" mode, while it only logs the time it was in sleep mode and the watch motionless, when it is in sleep mode it puts the watch into block mode so it does not vibrate or light up the screen when an email or text comes in... it does activate when your alarm goes off, and as a lazy bum who frequently hits the snooze button or sleeps through his alarm, this watch has done a very good job of getting me out of bed at 4:30. Battery life, when running the standard clock face, is as advertised. Samsung claims 3 days, and I've done 3 days a couple of times now that the "newness" has worn off, but in general, I charge it every evening, though most evenings it is well above 50% when I connect it. Preloaded apps include the IR remote control also found in Samsung phones and tablets. I have not configured or tested it, as I use the Harmony remote.

This smart watch does it all. I especially like being able to use the voice command to take photos, take phone calls and it logs my steps. I get all my notifications, heart rate and music. It's such a joy being able to move around without my phone and still keep in touch. The clasp assures me that I won't lose my watch.

This is a great $300 notification device. It comes equipped with a rarely used camera that takes excellent pictures but truly has no apparent use. As for being a hands free device while driving first you need to ensure that the Svoice app has been activated and insure that you properly pronounce commands correctly.

I chose this above Samsung's newest offering because it has a camera, which I use frequently at work for photographing parts, but it's greatest convenience is the display of notifications, allowing me to check their importance at a glance. This way, my hands stay busy as I don't have to check my phone every time some memo passes through the company email system. I also no longer miss text messages from my wife when I am out on the shop floor where it is extremely noisy. After installing the GEAR app on my Samsung phone and then pairing it with the Gear 2 Watch, (this smart watch only works with Samsung phones), the device works flawlessly, and surprisingly remains linked up to 50 feet away (through clear air; walls shorten the range a lot). I especially like its ability to place a call and become a speaker-phone, which works really well. People on the other end say it sounds good, and its while its speaker isn't terribly loud, it is more than comfortable enough to hear in a normal environment (the speaker tickles my wrist when the other party speaks. Naturally, battery life varies depending on how much the device is used, and which features are accessed; for me, under "normal" use (a day of typical notifications, plus 10 minutes of speakerphone use, plus 5 photos, and maybe 60 seconds of video recording), I arrive home to find roughly 80% remaining, so I guess three days is a reasonable expectation on a charge. It charges fairly fast when using its included charger (I've topped it off from 73% in around 90 minutes), but more slowly using a common PC USB port. All in all, I am very satisfied with this product.

I read a bunch of reviews with both positive and negative feedbacks regarding the gear 2 and here's my review. First the good, battery life is decent. I always get a minimum of 3days of life before i have to recharge it. Of course this is all depending on how much you use it I.E. playing games and such. Charging is usually complete within an hour on a dead battery. Having the feature to ping your phone if you misplaced is also nice. There are countless customizations for the clock including design and background color or you can chose to put a photo as a background. Theres a sleep mode on the watch that works really well. When in sleep mode the screen is turned off and will monitor how long it was in sleep mode and how many of those hours you were actually asleep (motionless). The real time updates are a nice feature. Every morning i woke up it would tell me my travel time to work. And surprisingly enough it was fairly accurate. It went as far as to tell me if there were accidents on my route. Of course you have to be linked up to Google+ to use this feature. The watch has a built in speaker so you can make calls from your watch. At first i thought call quality would be garbage and that i would have to hold the watch to my mouth when talking and look like a weirdo but that was not the case. Call quality was actually very decent. I would be driving and have my hands on the steering wheel and i was understood clearly when talking. The price tag of $300 has alot of people on the fence. This is my take on the price. I love wearing watches and watches are not cheap in general. I own fossil and citizen watches and they generally cost $400 so buying a watch that did a whole lot more then tell time was a no brainer for me. The features are almost endless and would take to long to go through them all. Some of the downfalls of the watch that i noticed were for one poor picture quality from the camera. The only nice feature of the camera is any video or picture taken is automatically saved on your phone. Also the watch uses uses tizen for app management. What this means is you cant use Google app store to add apps to your phone. The apps samsung provides arent horrible but there not great either. I dont really find this a big issue seeing as how the phone does alot already. Everyone once and awhile it would crash and shut off but it would happen maybe once every 2 months or so. Not really that big of an issue. Over all this is a great buy no matter what your plans are. If your into working out this is perfect cause it tracks your heart rate, steps, and calories burned and stores it on your phone. It also allows you to scroll through your music without touching your phone. If your just an everyday go to work and come home kind of person then this is great for you too. With traffic updates to and from work. Sleep pattern analysis so this way you can adjust your sleeping for big meetings or projects you may have. And news and financial updates. This watch will adjust to whatever lifestyle you have. Its alot to take in so dont get discouraged or overwhelmed if you buy one. It takes a little bit to get used to. Also very important make sure you buy the warranty. I have owned my watch for 3months with no problems but remember its an electronic and with electronics there are never any guarantees.

This watch is amazing. It is comfortable and relatively unobtrusive on this woman's relatively small wrist. I can simply glance at my wrist to see who's calling on my mobile, and accept or decline the call, or and read the latest text messages on my watch (and the vibration function is more discreet than my phone's). It replaces my most sophisticated fitness tracking device, counting my steps, monitoring my sleep quality, functioning as an alarm "clock" and stopwatch. The heart rate monitor function doesn't actually work when I'm wearing the watch normally--need to turn it around to where I have more of a pulse; it's still useful. The camera is less sophisticated than my phone's (of course) but very useful for recording information or capturing a moment. There are other functions; these are the ones that most delight me. The display comes on at a flick of the wrist to let me know what time it is, then goes dark again so there's no bright, distracting, always-on screen on my wrist. (Of course it stays on if I'm doing something.) The application functions are intuitive, the small screen surprisingly easy to interact with. This watch holds a charge for several days of normal use, and so far has gracefully withstood sweaty TRX classes, half-marathons in both steamy and sub-freezing temperatures, and other challenges. The most exciting device to enter my life since the smartphone!

This watch does anything and everything you could imagine. It works right alongside my phone. I get my messages easily without having to pull my phone out. It is a lot less distracting when in a crowd or with friends. I can answer my phone with my watch if I can't get to my phone. Pretty cool! The battery lasts me about 3 days which I think is just fine. The camera has come in handy and is fun to play with. It has the fitness tracker that synched to my phone the second I turned it on. I did nothing, the watch pretty much set itself up which was very convenient and easy to use. I can change the watch face to look pretty much like anything I want, Samsung has easy to use apps for this that you can download from the gear software. I love it and highly recommend this watch.

Physical Properties: This watch is a nicely made watch with gorilla glass 3 and a nice not-plastic feel. The wrist strap is user adjustable and takes only 5-10 seconds for me to adjust it when someone else wants to try it on. The screen is bright enough to read in all conditions and the glass feels nice. The camera is no longer located on the watch band and nicely placed on the top of the bezel. Battery: On an average day, the watch will go from 100% to 75% battery, I imagine it lasting 4 days with my heavy usage. It came with a charging dongle and a micro usb wall adapter that charge it in about an hour. Notifications: I use Google Hangouts instead of Samsung's built in messages. For my purposes this is great, when I get a text; my watch vibrates a little and shows who sent a message and the first 70 characters or so. From there i can tap the notification to read it in its entirety or tell my phone to show me the message from whatever app it originated from. Phone: Phone calling was one of the primary reasons I wanted this watch over other competitors. I like that it is always connected and while driving I don't need to have my phone paired with the car of a cumbersome headset. The volume is adequate although could be louder and my friends are impressed that the sound quality is better than talking through my phone. Being able to reject calls from my watch without taking my phone out is great when I'm on the go or working. Lock feature: There's an option to make it so if the watch is out of range of the phone, the phone activates security locks. I like that I don't waste time unlocking my phone anymore, but the security features are there the moment I walk away or I turn off my watch. Camera: I don't use the camera ever, but when I tested it out it was clear. There currently is no way to take a picture without the loud shutter sound. Fitness tracking: I use the pedometer app, the exercise app, the sleep tracking app. The pedometer is a passive one and the watch silently counts my steps all day, every day. The sleep app I turn on right as i get into bed and off when my alarm clock wakes me up, it tells me how long i was in bed and what percent of that time was spent motionless (assumed actual sleep). The exercise app has four modes, I use the running one where it constantly checks my heartrate, measures distance ran, and tells me if I'm trying hard enough and meeting goals based on my age, weight and fitness goal. These apps all can work standalone but syncing them to an app called "Fitness for Gear" on the phone is where the real numbers are crunched. More on the app later. Music: I did not buy the watch for this feature but I found out that the watch can play songs without bluetooth headphones. And the volume through its speaker is loud enough for me to hear it while I'm running outdoors but not so loud that it would annoy people as I pass. For my urban environment, this is great as I don't have my ears covered, increasing my awareness of cars and other dangers. You have to load songs one by one if you're sending them from your phone but you can hook the watch up to your computer and use it as a flash drive to put more songs on it quicker. I wish there was support for playlists. Operating System: I do find the OS a little cumbersome and I cannot easily make things appear the way I want without careful manipulation. I got very frustrated moving icons and screens around to get my desired look but am finally happy. Samsung keeps saying that their Tizen platform was have ample support and 3rd party apps. I hate that they made this choice to compete with google. Many core android functions such as hangouts, gmail, google search, google voice commands do not work as well with the watch as the samsung apps. There also are a couple functions greyed out across the system such as "share" in many places. I expect further support and updates to open these functionalities up. Fitness for Gear: I use my watch with the Note 3. The note 3 shipped with an app called "S Health" that is samsung based and worked well with the original gear. Samsung seems to no longer support it and now my years worth of pedometer and exercise data is no longer attached with my new Fitness for Gear profile. Also S Health tells me that my gear software is out of date, seems like they completely stopped supporting it. I don't like that the fitness app seems to take so long to sync what must be a couple numbers with my watch. And it reports it to a server but doesn't seem to do anything with the data. I would appreciate if it told me things about my sleep or my hourly pedometer usage in graph form. I truly think that this app in its current state is a step backwards for samsung. S Health was more functional, quick, and looked like a clean app. Remote Control IR Blaster: I had no idea that I would actually be using what I thought would be a s dumb gimmick. Turns out it saves me many trips across the room to get the remote. Also in those rare times I don't know where the remote is, I just use this. Of course my Note 3 could have done this too, but having the functionality on my wrist increases convenience. Cost: I do find the $300 MSRP price tag quite prohibitive for people. For most, this is more than the cost of their phone (out of pocket). I think this watch would sell well at the $150 point and acceptably high at the $200. They possibly are trying to create a premium market for wearables. I hope this watch for me doesn't come off as a status symbol, but the sticker price does remind tech knowledgeable people that I spent a lot on it.

I really like this watch. It is quite easy to use. I do have several issues with it. 1) heart rate monitor is not that accurate, especially when there is a noise around. But I can live without it. 2) step count is also not accurate. I take two three steps, it tells me I took 30 steps. That's a total bummer. I have not really used many of its features so I really can't say for sure about the other features. I like that I can take pictures with it, although, I wouldn't really know why I would actually take a picture of except for like spying which is totally creepy. Another thing I like is that you can make phone calls. Although you do need to be within distance from your phone. The calls a clear which is a plus. I can read my text messages, and you can also get notifications from other apps if you wish. The feature that I really thought was awesome was the find my phone feature. I lose my phone a lot and having this feature is awesome sauce.

I love the watch so far. I got it first for the notifications festures. As a teacher you can't be on your phone all the time looking at messages. This allows me to take a quick glance and move on. Works great at counting steps as a move around throughout the day. The battery has been lasting me 2-3 days depending on use. I have only noticed two faults so far. 1. Being black the heart rate monitor doesnt work as a stand alone feature. But it works during exercise mode or when I take watch off and take measurement on finger. 2. The weather app doesnt update.

So easy to just look at you watch whenever a text or email comes in and it is great to have the time and sometimes it's nice to even answer the phone from the watch. Don't use the camera much, but it's there if I would need it. Like the fact that it is water proof. I often wear the watch around the house and leave the phone on the charger. Real handy.

This smart watch is a very fun gadget which is why I bought it. I get about 3 full days on a single charge with moderately heavy usage. I can have songs on the watch independently of my cell phone and listen to them with a wireless headset. I enjoy the notifications the most. One thing which would make the watch better would be pictures to go along with the news stories.

I own a Pebble, a Sony Smartwatch 2 and now the Gear 2. All are about the same size. All work well with my Note 3. I get about 3 days of charge, with moderate use on any of these devices. I own a Construction company using industrial adhesives. Once out in the field my company runs almost 100% through my smartphone. A smartwatch allows me to monitor my company without taking off gloves or dropping equipment. I live in Hawaii and 99% of calls from the mainland are telemarketers. It is so annoying and so disruptive to my business. The phone let's me know who to ignore. I'm pretty tough on my watches. All these smartwatches have proven strong and water resistant. I change screen protectors often so I make my own from old iphone skins. I have had problems with the Sony and Pebble. However, the Best Buy warranties are great and never lost a day of use due to their full replacement policy. The Gear 2 is far and away a step up from the other watches. The screen clarity is magnificent. Easy to make custom watch faces too. The look is handsome. The watchband is secure, comfortable and durable. Connectivity is the best. Automatic connection when in range and actually tells you when connected or not. Very clear battery monitor. One button and the rest is touch control. Good sensitivity. With a quick gesture screen wakes up. Many sub menus to really control what apps do. camera takes good pics, even in low light+movies w/sound. Built in MP3 player, actually plays music through watch or connects with bluetooth headset, and works without smartphone. The watch stores photos, movies, music and data. You decide when to transfer photos to your smartphone. Full set of fitness apps. Can receive or make phone calls from your watch. Full notification apps such as schedules, emails, texts and phone logs. Several other stand alone apps and apps that work with your smartphone. Not many third party apps yet but guaranteed there will be. The other smartwatches are fine. The Gear 2 does everything better. The notifications always work. The functions always work. And then there are the things other smartphones just don't do like take pictures, answer and make calls, or play music. And the clarity of the screen is just so important when dealing with something so small. I'm 56 and it makes a big difference. So far it is the more expensive smartwatch. But if it is a tool you use everyday, like me, then the little extra cost is insignificant. I would buy the Best Buy protection. These are pioneer devices, expected to do a lot. Best Buy takes very good care of customers who have protection plans.

I'm not one who usually wears watches so I was kind of hesitant on purchasing this product. Now that I have it, I hate taking it off (for showers and charging). I would recommend this device to anyone. It does everything I need it to do and more. I generally use it to count my steps, monitor my exercise, monitor my sleep (only because it has the capability), make calls, text/email, take pictures, and of course tell time. The battery lasts about 2 days and charges relatively fast. It looks great, fits perfectly, and has some awesome options for customizing it and making it my own. I'm glad I purchased this gear.

I ADORE this watch!!! It's easy and intuitive to use. I love the ability to answer and take calls, and this is how I mostly answer/talk unless it's a private call now. I also frequently use the media controller to access my music while I work. The S voice feature works well. It has tons of presets for texts, and I've been able to set up enough to allow me to appropriately respond to most texts without having to take my phone out. The design is much better than the previous Galaxy Gear-the camera is much nicer now that it is built into the main body. The pictures it takes are of decent quality too (although it doesn't replace your rear facing phone camera), and are good for quick shots. The only thing that could make it better would be for it to function as a stand alone device.

I owned the first generation for a very short time. I was disappointed with the limited number of apps and the features weren't great. This device has made great improvements!! It is comfortable to wear, lightweight and looks great. The app store is increasing almost every day with apps of all varieties. The heart rate sensor and exercise app is a must for working out. The battery is much better now with Tizen and you can't tell any difference in operation. The little touches like the universal remote function and home button are nice extras. The smartwatch market is still growing, but this is definitely a game changer. It's an expensive toy, but I think it's worth it when compared to Pebble and others that have much less capabilities and less than favorable looks.

If you have a Samsung device and are in the market for a smart watch, you need to consider the Gear 2. The design is excellent. The brushed metal on the top really makes it feel premium. The notifications you can set are great. You can select which apps send notifications over the watch very easily with the Gear Manager app. Samsung includes a lot of apps for the watch and I do not really feel the need to put more apps on the watch, and that is a good thing as the app selection is pretty small. I can easily view the weather, my schedule, place a phone call, send and receive texts. The S Voice inclusion is really nice. Overall I am very pleased with the Gear 2 and it never leaves my wrist except to charge. The battery life is a solid two to three days.
