I'm writing this as an owner of one for three years. Speeds are abysmal--nothing compared to advertised data transfer rates (even over USB-C). Rarely hits above 500 MB/s read and write. And as of recently, I swear it's started to fail. Files take forever to load, File Explorer freezes when I select the drive, it's just a mess. Reformatting doesn't help. I reckon I'll have to replace this drive soon with another brand.

SanDisk - Extreme Portable 1TB External USB Drive

I really don't like that this portal USB drive goes to "sleep" when not in use even though it's still connected to my laptop. This means that when I go to access my files I have to wait for the drive to startup which causes a delay in opening and saving the files in Word, Excel, etc.

This SanDisk is extremely slow

I bought this since they advertised the speed and it is very portable. Be careful, SanDisk specs the read speed but not the write speed. I backed up my desktop drive on this (about 900 GB) and it took over 14 hours, which is like having a bunch of old slow usb drives bundled up. This was on a new Dell 5820 desktop. If you only have a small amount to write, it's ok.

Two Year's worth of Data....Gone.

Two year's worth of data is just gone. Bought this hard drive from BB after a recommendation of the staff. It was great, seemed solid. No complaints for the last two years. It usually just sits in a desk drawer in my office at home and I back up my Mac files every 30-60 days.
Then yesterday my Mac just couldn't find it. Nothing recognized when I plugged it in like every other time. I tried all ports on my Mac, tried a second computer, nothing. It just died.(?!?!). So, two year's worth of my data is gone. I don't think I'll be able to trust another SanDisk HD again. I guess my suggestion would be to buy another brand.

DONT... I bought and was amazed at how small this is. With encryption? shoot yeah. Less than 2 years later, and it glitches out, google around, looking like all my backup data is gone for good, including the first year of life for my son on our 4k camera.

Worked for 2 Days

I purchased this on a Friday afternoon. Used it Friday night and transferred 40gb of videos. Tried to access them Sunday on my MacBook and got an error code. So i put it back in the original computer i used and received the same error code. Tried everything, restarted, changed cables, changed ports nothing worked. Going to exchange it and see how it goes.

It was a waste of money. It died after 6 months. Sandisk won't replace it without the original receipt. If you buy anything Sandisk hang on to the receipt for when it dies.

ive had this hard drive for a few weeks now and my stress level has gone up. takes forever to load images or to move them to another folder. my other hard drive from 5 years ago works so much better than this one

Must have been a lemon

Purchased in store and died within a week. Reached out to SanDisk for warranty replacement and they never responded. Waste of money and will never buy a SanDisk-related product again.
