Just purchased yesterday. The drive is advertised as having transfer speeds up to 2 GB/s. Im using it on a brand-new MacBook Pro M4 Max and running the Blackmagic benchmark. Regardless of file size, read and write transfer rates are never more than 1 GB/s. I have another 4 TB SSD that uses a Samsung 990 4 TB SSD, and it consistently attains 5+GB/s read and write rates, so i know my hardware is perfectly capable of delivering that throughput. The other external SSD is considerably more expensive, so I’m not expecting a $320 SSD to achiene those speeds, but I know my hardware can deliver enough throughput to get maximum throughput from this device. Anybody else had this experience? I’m pretty disappointed.
Thank you for your feedback. The advertised speeds are based on ideal conditions and can vary depending on hardware and setup. Ensure you're using the original USB-C cable, a compatible port and a performance-optimized file system like exFAT or APFS. Will only do 1000 mb/s with MacBook Pro 2024 m4

I have a Macbook Pro 2024 M4 Max. Before purchasing the 4tb Extreme Pro from Best Buy on the black friday sale, I contacted SanDisk to ask if the unit would work with my MBP at the full 2000 read/write speed. They collected lots of data on my MBP (model #, port info, etc) and after checking with their upper level staff etc, they fully assured me that it would work at a rate of 1950 to 2000 read / write. After making my purchase at the low sale price, the unit arrived and it would only work at around 1000 or less based on the Blackmagic Disk Speed Test. So, an hour later I again contacted Sandisk and ran lots of test for them uploaded lots of screen shots etc. This went on for days. During which time they elevate me from one to another until they finally said these words, "We have reviewed the case and would like to inform you that USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 is not currently supported on Apple products and maximum performance for this product is capped at 1000MB/s with Apple devices. So, either the staff with whom I originally spoke are incompetent in their knowledge , or they just lied. I do not know which. Either way, Sandisk is no longer a trustworthy company for me. If I return my item, I get back only the cheap price I paid during the Black Friday sale, and then I have to pay the higher prices for something else. Their mistake and I am the one who takes the loss.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and experience with us. We understand how frustrating this situation must be, especially given the time and effort you're put into resolving it. Our intention is to always offer accurate guidance, but it appears that there was a miscommunication regarding the compatibility of USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 with Apple devices. Unfortunately, as you have noted, macOS devices currently cap speeds for this interface at 1000MB/s. We truly regret the frustration this has caused to you. The Sandisk 4 TB drives are prone to failure. Not like the 2 TB drives which are solid. 2 out of 3 of these I purchased drop the connection to the computer randomly, with increasing times.
We're sorry to hear about the trouble you're facing. Please try different ports, cables and computers to rule out host issues. If the issue continues, please get in touch with the support team for further assistance by opening a ticket at (https://support-en.sandisk.com/app/askweb)

Great product. Wish I had purchased before my system got hacked.

Since I see this has happened to a couple other people here, apparently these drives like to fail unexpectedly. Same issue as others — drive works fine, had multiple TB of data on it, then I plug it in one day and it needs to be formatted/initialized with an unreadable partition table. Tried on both mac and windows and neither could read the drive. I was able to recover a number of my files using r-studio/r-undelete but lost over 100GB of data. Glad at least that it failed within the return period, this is going back and I’ll never trust another SanDisk SSD again. STAY AWAY!!!

For now it works. I bought two units. One of the units, Under very heavy load the one of the hard drive disconnected from the computer, i had to resume the operation of tranferring back a 3.31 tb hard drive image. Later i learn there is apparent firmware to resolve this exact issue, but i unable to download, mine says serial # is invalid.
We are sorry to hear about the issue you have encountered. The firmware update is designed to resolve such problems. Please make sure you are entering the serial number correctly and contact our support team for assistance regarding the update process. Thank you for your feedback.

I've had this hard drive for no more than 2 weeks and this hard drive has now twice deleted files by itself. Big money making projects have been lost and I've had to spend money on data recovery software to get bits of it back. This is an absolute NIGHTMARE of a hard drive and I wish I never bought it. Seriously don't take a chance if you value what you put on your hard drive. On top of the lost info it has cost our company 40+ hours of man hours trying to recover the data.
Disk unrecognizable within 2-4 weeks of formatting

Disk unrecognizable after 2 weeks (so cannot return). Reformatted and had the same thing happen again, and again. It has been unrecognizable now 4 times. I actually bought two of these, the first one I bought seems to work, but am anxious about continued use, especially since I was just on a photo vacation and type other people told me they had the same problem. I’d like to get a refund from best buy or sandisk for both units I purchased. I’d even be happy with store credit.

Worst quality disk ever. Second replacement drive in a row failed now, of course right after the return period is up at Best Buy.
It seems to be a very common problem with only the 4TB sized Extreme Pro model. I'm not sure I can trust this product enough with my collection of personal pictures.
I never had an issue with my other SanDisk Extreme disks, but avoid this particular model at all costs.

I have lost several terabytes of data on this drive. Two different times! Each time the device became unmountable and unrecognizable. I tried it in several different computers, no luck. I was forced to re-format and try again the first time and a week to the day later, same thing. I’m beyond furious. Look into this device. Several people have had the same problem. The first failure was just days after the return date. I’m out 500 bucks and precious time!
