Pluses: 1. Hard drive is fast and reliable. 2. Setup procedure for the Seagate is smooth. Unit uses your default browser to do this. 3. When connected: a. Seagate WiFi can set up connection with a router, so you can do business as normal by connecting via WiFi to the Seagate, which connects automatically to your router. b. Can download files from Seagate. c. Can upload files to Seagate. d. Can copy or move files from one location to another on the Seagate. e. The wireless connection is reliable and you can do business as usual. 4. File movement to, from and within the Seagate is fast. 5. Can plug Seagate directly into your computer and use it as a regular USB-powered hard drive (USB-3 rate). Minuses: 1. Upon powering up the Seagate, the WiFi is slow to establish itself (i.e., your computer's/tablet's wireless-networks function will "see" the Seagate), when it does so. 2. At times, needed more than one attempt to get Seagate to establish itself (WiFi annunciator keeps flashing - a solid annunciator shows the WiFi is established). 3. If your computer/laptop is already connected to a router (any type), it may not "see" the Seagate. This may require that you disconnect fro your router and then go to the wireless-networks function of your computer/laptop to detect the Seagate and manually connect. 4. When the Seagate is plugged into a computer as a hard drive, the WiFi is disabled. This is by design. The offset is that when the Seagate's WiFi is activated, you can plug it into a computer to charge the battery. When the WiFi is established on the Seagate, the unit runs great. This is useful for tablets or smartphones with limited storage space. For regular computers, the simplest approach is to use the Seagate as a normal USB-3 hard drive, however I would use a computer with a WiFi device (any laptop will do) to set up the Seagate. I did check "yes" for recommendation, but its a conditional "yes." I would not pay full price for this unit.

Good wireless drive at a good price

I originally used one of the more expensive wireless drives from Seagate before losing it on a trip. I was concerned this one being so much cheaper would prove to be worse, but I haven't noticed any differences. Connectivity is still frequently problematic (though this is usually due to my device disconnecting automatically when it cant get a connection to the Internet). Once connectivity is set up, however, it works pretty well. There are frequently issues with the wireless streaming player they provide not having the right codecs installed, so I usually just download the files locally and watch them that way instead. Once you get used to the quirks for this thing, it becomes an extremely useful way to watch downloaded movies/tv shows from your tablet/phone without having to store it locally.

I was not used to the slow transfer speeds. But it did transfer alot of photos and you could use the app to view them. So it did what it was supposed to. For the price, you sacrifice the speedy transfers that you would get with a USB 3. connection or a more powerful wifi enabled storage, but also pay double or triple the price of this. So for certain occasions where your not in a hurry, this works.

I love that it has plenty of memory to free up space on phone & tablet. Very easy to setup but the instruction manual only has how to connect to device not how to find some pictures when saves & some photos transferred are upside down or sideways no way to fix I even tried to turn photo before transfer but didn't resolve think if had better instructions or at least an online tool would of helped but got for good price & maybe if hook to computer will have better luck on turning pictures.

Important: I purchased a refurbished drive because it was an inexpensive route to portable wireless backup, but it came with zero instructions. The User Manual is on line and helpful. Seagate Media needs to be downloaded on devices. I have been able to use it as a backup, and to view photos on my phone, which is very useful. I need to create a slide show to see if I can port it to the TV. If so, it's a neat way to carry and share family pictures and videos. There are reviews for more expensive wireless HD's that are probably better suited for professional or commercial purposes, but for the hobbyist looking for another affordable backup and sharing method, it's pretty cool.

Although My research and friends' referrals had mixed reviews about the brand, we went with it and haven't been sorry. My brother took two to Italy for a three-week recording session so he would download video from his camera, and they worked great... Small, light, portable, sturdy -- no complaints!

I decided to purchase this product because it was on sale and thought it was a good solution for sharing content. When I went on a trip, it was a pain to upload content on 3 different tablets because it took time to do it for each one. With this device, you can upload to this one device and have other devices access it. I've only tried it with HD (720p) content and seems to work well with different file types I've tried. I haven't pushed the range yet, so I don't know how the quality is as you get further away. It's also nice to be able to backup your pictures onto it when you're traveling. Would be nice if it had a built in card reader though. While the software is decent, it still takes a little time to connect to it, then connect the unit to the internet. But once you get that setup, the devices connected to the Seagate can access the internet through the Seagate.

Plenty of storage for overwhelmed tablets, phones. Transfer data from PC using USB to micro cable. Seems to be USB 2 rather than much faster 3. App for Apple and android seems to work fine with music, pics, and down sized video. Strangely pic quality with Apple on iPad is reduced compared to the same file on the iPad. Also, some android devices may need another video app to play some videos.

From a size standpoint, it's not that different from your garden variety portable HDD. Setup wasn't overly difficult either. Just need to remember when you want to stream from the HDD, to go into your device's WIFI settings & connect to it just like you would with any WIFI connection. Another neat gadget for the collection, for sure!

It's great to have a drive you can use without having to plug in to the USB port. If the UI was more user friendly, it would be perfect.

Actually bought this item on a whim. Was pleasantly surprised by the way it works. The app is a little odd, because you have to set your wifi access to the drive, but all in all, I am very pleased with it.

Works well enough to give some extra movie storage on trips. Would rather it was SSD based so wouldn't have to worry about it getting banged around. Very slow to transfer files to, but once they're on it life is good.

This was bigger and bulkier than I had expected and would rather have the more rectangular model with a longer-life battery, but I got this model at a good price. Setup was relatively easy for me, but I've used devices like this before. It can be useful for streaming videos to tables/phones while on long drives, especially if you have a few kids that want to watch different things.

Still in the process of learning about it. "Too user friendly" if that makes sense. The simplicity of just navigation through icons makes it a little bit difficult in what you are doing. Not very efficient in mass loading; however, once you mass load your pics (in my case) it's easier just to add little by little to your collection. One problem I am having, but it may be because of my computer, is that when I play back videos uploaded, it is in very poor quality or lags a lot. I'm upgrading my computer soon so let's hope that's the case.
