The Good: I listen to a lot of music and watch a ton of videos online. When I’m at my desk I want to zone out. These headphones are wireless and allow me my cubicle freeness. I dislike headphones with cables. I like the way they fit around my ears and head. The RS185 had a clear and crisp sound. Most of my music is R&B and Hip-hop so I need base. RS185 doesn’t lack bass but it isn’t overwhelming, just right. The other tones are well balanced, unless im listening to a poor audio song or video, then its not so good but not the headphones fault. I like the way they fit around my ears and head. The battery life last me a couple of full work days. But when I leave, I put them on the charger and I’m good for the next day. The charging station is different but since I have plenty of desk space I don’t mind it. One cool plus is the ability to customize your own preferences. Make them truly your own. The Bad: I’m not a huge fan of the cushion material and they can feel heavy at times. when I first put them on, its noticeable but after a couple of hours of usage the heavy feel goes away. I guess my neck gets used to it. The other: Im sorry but they are not cool looking and huge, bulky, not cute for a girl, just ugly.

The good news is that the sound in these headphones is pretty good. It is clear without hiss and has average bass. The problems I have with the headphones are several. First, they don't connect via bluetooth. They connect to the source through a base unit via an analog (red and white cables) or digital (digital optical cable). Those are the only two options. Then the base unit connects to the headphones via wi-fi. Other devices can affect the quality of the signal, and I believe the headphones can further clog an overcrowded wi-fi network. Another issue I have is that these are open ended headphones, so they have a lot of noise bleed. If you wanted to wear headphones to watch a movie so that you won't disturb others, these aren't the ones for you. Others around you will be able to hear everything you're listening to loud and clear. While charging the headphones on the base unit is convenient, the base unit itself adds to a cluttered electronics space. About the only situation that these would be useful for would be for someone that is hard of hearing and has trouble hearing the tv . Other than that specific situation, I wouldn't recommend these headphones.

Elegant Headphones System with Specific Purpose

Over the past few years I have become somewhat of a connoisseur of over-ear headphones. When the Sennheiser RS 185 Wireless Over Ear Headphones came across my desk, I found they stood out from the pack because they are provide wireless audio when ‘wireless’ shouldn’t be possible. This headphone system makes it possible for users to be able to connect to analog input devices with a wireless set of headphones. The headphones come packaged with a transmitter stand, which doubles as a charging dock. With the dock you can plug in analog signals from phono sources, the headphone jack, or the digital optical cable. There are wired headphones out there that make it possible for you to plug directly into these type of sources, but when it comes to wireless options, you have to pick and choose carefully. The RS 185 headphone system is packaged in a branded Sennheiser box. It comes with a user manual, 6.6’ RCA audio cable, 4.9’ optical cable, rechargeable batteries, the wireless headphones, and the TR transmitter/power supply with 4 adapters. Out of the box, the setup is quite impressive. The headphones, while hefty, are lightweight and very comfortable. The ear pieces have a fabric covering that is similar to velvet so my ears did get a bit warm after prolonged use. The headphones actually have balance controls located on the ear cups so that you can customize your listening experience from the comfort of your current location rather than having to move back to the source. Even though the main purpose of these headphones was to provide a way for audiophiles to continue listening their older formats in a new way, I am a little disappointed that the headphones aren’t available for Bluetooth connections. To me, that would have really made these headphones special. We just upgraded our entertainment system to include a 4K television. And, at times, I want to continue watching television long after others in the house have gone to bed. These headphones make it possible for me to continue watching my favorite show or playing my favorite video game without disturbing others because I can plug the transmitter into the TV using the Digital Optical cable and leave the stand tucked away behind the TV. This keeps them ready at a moment’s notice. Overall, the headphones have a great sound. The bass lacks at times during TV shows, but it really depends on what I am watching. Music comes through loud and clear and sounds a very well-defined. Aside from the lack of Bluetooth, the only issue I really have with them is that they don’t isolate very much ambient noise. I know that they aren’t intended to be noise cancelling headphones, but with them being over-ear style, I thought they might block out sound just a bit better than they do. These are a unique set of headphones with a specific purpose. If you are searching for a way to connect wirelessly to your television, media system, or older turntable, this might be a good system for you. As long as you go into this product knowing that they weren’t meant for mobile device compatibility, you won’t be disappointed with the listening experience they provide.

The sound is fantastic and it's comfortable to wear. Great to use so my wife isn't bothered with TV noise when she's in a near-by room. We now have two so we can each wear one while watching TV together, each enjoying such great sound while each being able to set volume we prefer. Charge lasts long time plus we can use same charging unit.

It was disappointing that my TV doesn't have digital optical, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that the analog set up works just as well! I can now watch TV and movies while my daughter studies and fully enjoy it! The fit is very comfortable even with my glasses on. I'm very happy with my early Christmas indulgence.

I tested both the RS 175 and the RS 185. The 185 sound is superior. It is true to the source. It is dynamically very clear. However, the 185 does not isolate sound at all. Although I liked the sound on the 185 more than the 175, my wife made me get the 175 so that I would not bother her or the kids when I watch things. The 185 also allows individual R or L volume adjustment.

I have used wireless headphones for many years. I decided that I needed a pair of over ear as my prior ones would eventually cause external ear pain. The Sennheiser headphones are outstanding; easy to install, easy to follow all instructions for use and very comfortable.. Although they were more expensive than I was looking for, I absolutely love them and they are worth every penny.

These headphones sound like a lot of money - and they are. But I have spent over 200.00 on several less expensive models. This headset is GREAT sound and does not even compare to less expensive models. And best of all, there is no static; just great crisp quality sound.

Best TV Listening Experience We’ve Ever Had!

First, know that these Sennheiser RS 185 wireless headphones are unlike most other wireless headphones you may have experienced. They are NOT meant for the mobile world. They are not Bluetooth. Yes they are wireless, but no they won’t answer your smartphone or play music from your iPad at the beach. The RS 185 system is designed strictly for home or other stationary use. The Sennheiser base station needs to be plugged into both AC power and a wired audio output from a television, media player, or home music system. FYI: I had to use an 1 to 3 optical digital splitter to incorporate the RS 185 system into my home entertainment system. And it works fine. The headphones are then tethered to the base station via an uncompressed, RF, audio stream that offers three times the range of Bluetooth with none of the lag or annoying connection problems. We like this headphone system so well that, despite having lots of expensive Bluetooth wireless headphones lying around, I decided to buy another pair of just the Sennheiser RF headphones for my wife. The base station can simultaneously handle two headphones at once thereby giving us the perfect TV listening experience. Frequently, that’s how we watch TV in the evenings when our granddaughter is asleep in the next room. However, we used to be constantly vexed with Bluetooth transmitter pairing and reconnect problems. Thankfully, I experience none of those problems when using the Sennheiser RS 185 Headphone System. I simply lift the headphones off the recharging dock at the top of the base station, press the button to turn them on, and I’m ready to watch TV. I never experience connection problems like stutter, skip, dropouts, and re-pairing issues that plague Bluetooth systems. Nor do I have to remember to leave the Sennheiser headphones in the living room when the inevitable TV watching breaks are needed. While the RS 185 headphones are great for watching TV, they’re no slouch when it comes to listening to music either. We’ve streamed plenty of music through our home entertainment system to great effect. These Sennheiser headphones sound awesome when listening to music. The second thing you need to know that these headphones don’t do…and that is active noise cancellation or even noise isolation for that matter. They are not for you if you live in a noisy house. However, they are perfect for the two of us watching TV in the evening and still able to hear comments from the other person or hear if our granddaughter wants a drink or gets up for some reason. I have three final comments about these Sennheiser headphones. First, I love the large volume control buttons. They’re easy to find and use by feel. Second, the rechargeable batteries (one in each ear cup) are user replaceable! When they won’t hold a charge anymore just pop in replacements from anywhere they sell batteries and you’re ready to go. And last, these headphones all about comfort. The ear cups are full-size and totally surround your ears with very large, velour-covered, ear cushions. They hold firmly on your head, yet the ear cups don’t squeeze your temples so hard that wearing eye glasses would become uncomfortable. Definitely the best TV listening headphones we’ve ever used. They completely solved our mismatched TV volume dilemma brought on by my worsening hearing loss. I can think of nothing negative to say about them. So I highly recommend these Sennheiser headphones for the purposes for which they were designed.

Original had the rs175 but returned it for the rs185. Reason was cuz rs175 ear cups where made out of leather type material which caused my ears to get quite hot and sweaty. The rs185 ear cups are made out of a super soft quilt material which does not get hot. I can wear it for hours in complete comfort. The sound is superior to the rs175. The cost difference between the rs185 and rs175 is substantial however when comparing comfort and performance, the decision was a easy at the end of the day.

The Sennheiser Wireless Over-the-Ear Headphones is a wireless headphone set that offers superb sound quality but it is however unlike any wireless headset you may be thinking of. What is it ? And will it fit your needs? First off i want to start by saying this is not a typical headphone set that you hook up to your phone or mp3 player. In fact there is no way to link it via blu tooth or nfc. What this set up focuses on rather is to achieve superb sound quality for movie watching or music listening via an audio receiver or optical jack through your tv. Lets talk about what your going to receive out of the box. You get one set of headphones, 2 AAA rechargeable batteries that go in the headphones, a charging dock, optical cable, and one audio cable. Set up is done very easily since there is technically no units to pair. The headphones already come from the factory paired to each other so all that is necessary is to plug in your base to a power source then hook up the audio line to your choosing. For me this was a perfect fit since i have built a home movie entertainment center in my basement. I simply hooked the base tower up to my TV via the optical jack, plugged it in to a power source and boom i was read to go. The Sennheiser is meant to give you unrelenting sound quality with up to 18 hours of run time at a distance of about 300 feet give or take. For the avid music or binge watcher this should be plenty of time. And although it claims 18 hours i cant say for sure if this true due to the fact that when im done watching a movie i naturally hang them back up on the dock which also serves as its charging station. As far as the 300 feet go i can say that i can walk way out in to my back yard and still get undisturbed sound quality with no drops. The head phones themselves have controls built on them to balance L/R balance and volume sound. They are designed around a thin fiber glass/plastic frame with very thick padding for comfort. I do have to say these are hands down the most comfortable headsets i have ever worn PERIOD! Lets talk sound quality. The design on the headphones is an open back design that Sennheiser has chosen to go with. What this basically accomplishes is a more equal sounding audio play through with minimal bleed out. What this means is you get the full sound quality including bass without one particular range over powering another. Keep in mind that with an open back design you may get some noise escaping and also entering your headset. So if you live in a noisy house this may not work however i have 3 kids under the age of 9 and found no real outside noise issues. The sound quality on this open back design is awesome to say the least. While watching Transformers i could hear the roar of the helicopter blades coming overhead as if i was actually there. And the bass quality from the tanks as they roared through was so rich that i could almost feel it but not too over powering to where i felt my ear drums would explode. Through the entirety of the movie i also never once experienced any drops or glitches which you typically tend to find on most blu tooth set ups. But that could be the reason why. This set up does not use blu tooth but in fact is a HiFi system that runs on Radio Frequency. This is a old school design but it works to provide high quality sound with no drop or interference. Now what if your married or dating and your partner wants to listen too? Well from what i found from Sennheiser is that a secondary headset can be added to the dock. Now you don't have to watch scary movies all alone. Here is my final take. Though this set up can be used to listen to music via a receiver i find that this is more geared towards movie and TV watching. Once again you cannot pair this to your phone as there is no blu tooth or NFC function. This set is perfect for the person that loves watching movies or TV the way it was meant to be watched, which is fully encompassed. Can't blast the surround sound cause you'll wake the neighbors or baby? Well then my friend this is the way you want to go. The sound quality will leave you in awe and make you feel as if you are actually there. Though they are able to handle both music and movie watching i would tend to stay away from them personally for music streaming and focus on them mainly for those that like to binge watch shows or movies. Over all you will not be disappointed. At least as of writing this review i can't really find any flaws to be too concerned over. Pros: -awesome sound quality -no drops -ability to add another headset -18 hours of battery life -Recharagable -Very comfortable to wear Cons: -None so far

If you have read the other reviews, then you won't get surprised. Range is excellent, sound is probably the same-I have jet aircraft ears, so I'm not a good judge of that. On my tv I need the volume at 65 and my wife needs 25 - 30. I use the digital interface. There is a slight but noticeable echo effect due to the differences in sound arrival times. The comfort I would shave a point or two off as the fit is not quite perfect for all night usage. Good but after a while tiresome. These headphones would have been perfect if they had base and treble adjustments to compensate for my hearing loss.
