Note that it is NOT needed if you just want to operate your TV, you only need if if you have additional things you want to control (DVD player, Sound Bar, etc) or if there are other features on your TV remote that you would like to combine (set sleep timer, etc).

IR only but a great supplement

Some TVs like mine use Bluetooth for all the functions besides power and volume, which the chromecast remote works fine with. So try and look up compatability first. I mainly wanted this to control the TV source but it didn't work on my TV
