This game is amazing, from the atmosphere to the graphics, immersive sound and top notch story. Great voice acting and the PS5 dualsense haptics really add to the experience. If you loved the original (like I did), you won't regret picking this up.

The Silent Hill 2 remake is a masterful reimagining of a survival horror classic, blending faithful storytelling with stunning modern visuals and enhanced gameplay. The town of Silent Hill feels more immersive than ever, with dynamic fog and meticulously detailed environments that heighten the eerie atmosphere. James Sunderland’s emotional journey is brought to life with incredible voice acting and expressive facial animations, while Akira Yamaoka’s updated soundtrack and unsettling sound design add to the haunting experience. With smoother controls, revamped combat, and satisfying puzzles, the remake stays true to its roots while feeling fresh and modern. Whether you’re a longtime fan or a newcomer, this is a must-play for horror enthusiasts.

If a survival horror game is great, it's somehow fun and Totally Not Fun all at the same time. If you finish it feeling like you've just gone through a nightmare - some huge ordeal you've somehow overcome - then it's probably a pretty effective one. The SH2 remake looks and plays just like I remember the PS2 original, which was my favorite game in the genre. I played the first few minutes of the original to refresh myself on it, and it's funny how memory plays tricks on me. Of course, this remake surpasses it in every way. It IS great, and it IS effective, and with my slow, methodical playthrough of around 25 hours, it certainly felt like an ordeal. This is a must-play for fans of puzzle-filled, genuinely disturbing psychological horror games, and a must-pass for everybody else.

Silent Hill 2 Remake on PS5 is a haunting, beautifully reimagined classic. The visuals, sound design, and story all hit with power, and the changes/modern improvements make it feel fresh without losing what made the original so special. However, the PS5 Pro version has some graphical issues (flickering reflections, lighting/shadow instability), and in darker areas the visibility can sometimes frustrate. Despite that, it’s an excellent buy for horror fans, especially those who appreciate atmosphere over action.

I'm self-assured that Silent Hill 2 has completely captivated me—even though I haven’t finished it yet. This game is everything I’ve been looking for in the genre, and it’s quickly become one of my all-time favorites. What stands out immediately is the atmosphere. The game is dripping with suspense and eerie tension, keeping you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. The psychological elements are incredibly well executed, creating a truly unsettling experience that sticks with you long after you’ve put the controller down. The sense of dread is constantly present, not just through the terrifying monsters and creepy environments, but also through the profound sense of isolation and helplessness that permeates the story. This is my first Silent Hill game, and I’ve been blown away by how seamlessly it combines psychological horror with survival mechanics. The puzzles are a highlight—challenging, rewarding, and deeply integrated into the overall experience. They add a layer of depth that keeps the gameplay from feeling like a standard horror shooter. Every puzzle solved feels like an accomplishment, and they contribute to the sense of immersion and mystery that Silent Hill is famous for. Visually, the game is stunning. The PS5 Pro handles the graphics beautifully, with crisp, detailed environments that draw you into the nightmarish world of Silent Hill. From the foggy streets to the claustrophobic interiors, every setting is meticulously designed to add to the horror. The audio design is equally impressive, with an eerie soundtrack and spine-chilling sound effects that keep the tension high throughout the game. The story itself is intriguing and keeps me invested, despite not knowing how it all ends yet. The way it blends personal tragedy with supernatural horror makes for a unique and gripping narrative. I’m genuinely hoping that Konami and Bloober Team follow up with a sequel because, based on what I’ve experienced so far, this could become one of the greatest horror franchises in modern gaming. I consider myself a very picky gamer, and it’s rare for me to be this enthusiastic about a title before I’ve even finished it, but Silent Hill 2 has earned my 10/10 rating. If you're a fan of survival horror, this is an absolute must-buy. The terrifying atmosphere, challenging puzzles, and psychological depth make it an experience you won’t want to miss. Well done, Konami and Bloober Team—this is a true masterpiece.

The *Silent Hill 2* Remake is a hauntingly faithful reimagining of the 2001 classic, delivering a masterclass in atmospheric horror. Bloober Team nails the oppressive, fog-drenched vibe of Silent Hill, with stunning Unreal Engine 5 visuals that amplify the eerie, decayed aesthetic. The updated combat and puzzles feel smooth yet retain the original’s clunky charm, while James Sunderland’s emotional journey—bolstered by stellar voice acting and a refined script—hits even harder. Minor pacing issues and some stiff animations don’t detract from the suffocating dread and psychological depth that make this remake a worthy successor. Fans and newcomers alike will find it unforgettable. *Score: 9/10*

Amazing game. Have beat it 2 times already. Graphics are amazing, the story is classic, and the atmosphere is one of the best in horror gaming. After being a fan of the original silent hill games growing up, this one becomes an instant classic and is perhaps the best silent hill game out there, for the modern generation

This was my GOTY for 2024. I never played the original SH2, but have been around video game talk long enough to know that this was a masterpiece. I thankfully never spoiled the story in any form. I went in completely blind. Every night, the lights were turned off and headphones were on. The sound design is phenomenal and the sense of dread is intense. It is one of the best games I've ever played. It's almost difficult getting through a couple hours. You need time to breathe and recuperate for the next night. The story had me guessing how it would unfold and I was not even close. I watched reviews for several weeks after I finished just to understand everything that happened. It's such an amazing game and story.

Like everyone, I was cautious and a little pessimistic when Konami first announced the Silent Hill 2 remake. Especially due to an unknown studio being given the reigns to work on this. Boy, was I wrong. As a fan of the original, the Bloober team deserves all the praise and more. They hit it out of the park in all aspects. Here's my rating for the game: Graphics: A+ Story: A+ (same story but definitely improved on) Acting: A+ Combat: A+ It took me about 20+ hours to beat the game on hard mode with hard puzzles. Currently doing a second play-through to see what else was missed. As of right now, this is my game of the year and if you're thinking about buying and playing this game, please do. We can only hope the Bloober team is given the chance to remake any of the remaining original 4 games.

    Review Of SH2

Gameplay Playing SH2, it was clear that the game tries to set itself apart from the classic Resident Evil formula. Instead of one large, enclosed space, Silent Hill is more open. You explore the city, spending most of your time inside buildings. Unlike Resident Evil games, once you finish an area, you don't return. Silent Hill's level design deemphasizes backtracking—it's still present, but not excessive. Another noticeable difference is the absence of a limited inventory, removing item management and encouraging more risk-taking. Combat also differs; you have melee weapons that aren't automatic. All these elements contribute to making SH2 a unique experience compared to other horror games of its time. But how well do these factors play out? I enjoyed the level design. The mix of semi-open areas with more traditional closed levels was a nice touch. The only modern game I've played that uses a similar idea is The Evil Within 2. Combat and Enemy Design The game's movement uses the traditional tank control system. You can opt for a more modern control system, but I stuck with the tank controls as fans consider it the most natural way to play. Combat focuses more on positioning and item management than on accuracy and speed. You have both melee weapons and guns, with weapon differences mainly in damage and reload time. This can be bypassed by reloading from the inventory rather than directly in-game. Physical weapons depend on positioning and animation time—the longer the animation, the more damage. I found three weapons throughout the game, and the system feels clunky and heavy. The design locks you into an animation until it finishes, which some say was intended because James isn't an action hero. My biggest critique is the superficial enemy design. In a game not focused on backtracking like Resident Evil, there was potential to make enemies harder and more interesting. Instead, all enemies feel similar. They may have different attack patterns, but they're easy to handle due to their simplistic nature, leading to a sense of sameness. For example, in Resident Evil, zombies differ significantly from hunters and dogs in speed, attacks, and danger levels. Silent Hill 2's enemies feel unnerving mainly due to the radio sound (thanks to incredible sound design) and camera design, which makes encounters feel more tense than they are. Puzzles Silent Hill 2 also features puzzles, which mostly depend on your understanding of the language and sometimes require you to memorize things. Occasionally, you'll need to backtrack, but as mentioned earlier, it’s not excessive. The puzzles are fine—I'll admit, some confused me, but I tried my best to solve them. There will be times when you might miss simple things that prevent progress, leading to some frustration Difficulty I played the game on normal difficulty, as you can't change difficulty mid-game. Choosing the appropriate difficulty is tough, so I researched online. Opinions were conflicting: some said hard difficulty was unbalanced, while others appreciated it. Lost in the conflict, I chose normal, as the game is more known for its story. Normal difficulty feels like easy difficulty in disguise. The game throws a lot of bullets and health items at you. Initially, I adopted a survival horror mentality, using melee for regular encounters and saving bullets and guns for tougher situations. However, as I progressed and accumulated a lot of ammo, I switched to using guns exclusively. This may have ruined the survival aspect, but I doubt it would change my opinion of enemy design. Playing on hard would only increase enemy health and decrease player damage, making encounters more tedious rather than intense. The Story Many people love Silent Hill 2 not for its gameplay, but for its story—and for good reasons. Silent Hill 2 presents its story in a subtle way, yet everything makes sense by the end. It's refreshingly different. In modern gaming, when a game is praised for its story, I usually expect lots of cinematics and dialogue. Silent Hill 2, however, is minimal with its cutscenes. I find this approach excellent; everything in the game contributes to the story—the enemies, the locations, the texts you read. During gameplay, James is mostly silent, allowing Silent Hill (the city) to speak to you. The dialogue is concise, with no excess fluff—just raw emotions. It's funny that this is a Japanese game, as many Japanese games tend to have excessive dialogue that explains everything (though I generally like Japanese games, just not their stories). I won't analyze the story in detail, but I'll say this: the story is really good. By the end, I felt emotional. It's rare to find a horror game with a compelling story, and now I'm interested in exploring the rest of the series (though maybe not the Western-developed games, which get a lot of flak). Initially, I didn't like the voice acting. It felt stiff, with many pauses between sentences. However, it grew on me as I progressed. While it may seem cheaper in quality compared to modern games, considering the era (looking at you, Final Fantasy X), it's not bad—just alright. You could argue that it fits the game's vibe. Presentation I used the enhanced edition, so the textures looked better than the original, but there are limits to what fans can do. Still, the game probably looked good for its time. One of the best aspects of Silent Hill 2 is its atmosphere. The visuals create an amazing horror vibe combined with effective camera angles. Credit goes to the person responsible for sound design, as this is a crucial aspect that gives the game its unique atmosphere. In many games, sound design feels nice but unremarkable. In Silent Hill 2, sound design is integral. The soundtrack is amazing, but the weird, haunting sounds really captivated me. In the end, Silent Hill 2 is a game you play for its atmosphere and story. While the gameplay is not bad, it shouldn't be the primary reason to play the game. Is it one of my favorites? Unfortunately, no. While I like its atmosphere and story, it didn't blow me away. But it's still really good.

I wasn't fortunate enough to play the original release on the PS2, but I picked it up on the 360 when it was released. Playing through Silent Hill 2, was one of the most singular gaming experiences - straddling the line between gameplay and story in a way that I had never experienced before. This remaster, remake, whatever, elevates every aspect of the story in a deep and meaningful way. Once again this experience has been powerful and moving - somehow even more haunting and impactful than when I first played it over a decade ago.

It's hard to believe I was a college freshman when this first came out for PlayStation 2 23 years ago and yet here we are. I never finished that one. After one of the main antagonists showing up that was it for me. All this being said the game is very well done. The graphics are spot on and the fog always adds to the mood. The story this time seems more coherent to me and I am able to follow along easy enough. The original I had no idea what was going on. I will admit I am currently in the hospital and am to go into a basement. I don't want to go in the basement! So I have no completed it yet as of writing this. I will definitely playthrough and attempt to get the five endings. I would recommend it.

I was definitely skeptical when I heard Bloober Team (the Medium, Layers of Fear) was going to be remaking SH2 due to their largely mediocre output. However, I’ve never been more pleased to be wrong about a game or a developer. SH2 is not only a brilliant remake for its modern over the shoulder gameplay perspective and drastically overhauled graphics and cutscenes but mainly for how well it simply captures the haunting and twistedly dark atmosphere of the original. This game is creepy! If you play this alone in the dark with some good headphones it will get to you for sure! It’s a perfect play for Halloween and spooky season.

After never playing the original, but always being a fan of the genre, I was very interested in this game. Pros: -Graphics are top notch -Story is very interesting and memorable -It's genuinely a scary game!(play with headphones on!) -Multiple endings Cons: -Not much replayability(despite Multiple endings) -Some of the puzzles feel obtuse and by the end feel tiring to complete. -On normal difficulty, felt almost too easy. By the end there was more than enough ammo and healing items stockpiled. Overall I highly recommend this game to anyone who's a fan of survival horror. Although not really worth full price.
