It is supposed to have a 30 foot range, and yet somehow detects vehicles driving by outside that are 40 - 50 feet away. And when testing it, and literally doing jumping jacks like 10 feet away, it took over a minute to detect me. One caveat: it's supposed to be an indoor motion sensor, so maybe these issues are just because I'm using it outside.

Simplisafe states if you have cats to set the motion sensor 6-10ft above the floor. I did that. Simplisafe states these motion sensors do not detect movement from things under 50 LBS; they do! I have the motion sensors in my house set on the lowest sensitivity setting and my 12 LB cat is constantly triggering the motion alarm. Most recently while I was out of town at 2:05am; I bet my neighbors love me.

Posted .Hi Robbie, so sorry about your experience! Our Motion Sensors are the passive infrared type - that means that they trigger from heat moving around in a room. We calibrate them to ignore smaller creatures, but might still trigger from bigger or more active pets (especially if they can get right up to the sensor).
Try turning the sensor upside-down (so the button is on the bottom), and lowering to about 4-5ft on your wall. This changes the viewing angle of the sensor so it can't see anything below, while still triggering for intruders at people-height!
