    Great single solution (almost) lens

A very good lens. It's OSS is phenomenal. It just can't be used with the built-in flash because it's big enough to cast a shadow. So if flash might be needed on a photographic excursion one has to also carry the 16-50 kit lens. But flash is seldom wanted, anyway. At 18mm there is some distortion, but going up just a few mm makes it better while retaining f/3.5. OSS wise, I've shot fairly sharp pictures at 200mm and 1/15 second, hand held! Two pictures, both taken at 200mm and cropped/resized to 1620x1080, are attached. The moon shot is the sharpest I've ever got.

    A great complement

i tried the kit lens with the Sony Nex-5 and SEL1855. Loved it. Upgraded to an A5100 with the SEL1650. I liked the camera but found the kit lens lacking (especially at the widest settings). So, I tried the the SEL55210. I loved the lightness and image quality from this other kit lens. However, I found myself having to change lenses frequently. So, I opted for the SEL18200LE. Image quality is great, much lighter than the SELP18200 or original SEL18200. Those just add so much bulk to the camera. With this lens, I can really play with depth of field in my pictures. The photos have been great.

    Great lens with minor flaws

I spent 2 months trying to figure out if I wanted to shell out the cash for this lens. I committed when I had to take a trip and didn't want to carry 2 different lenses. The lens did not disappoint. I have had it for 2months now and I still love it. The wide range is perfect for a variety of shots and alleviates the need for carrying additional products. The downside as mentioned in other reviews is the "creep". The lens will open if camera is pointing down(gravity always wins) but this can fixed by hitting the "lock" button on the lens. The zoom seems a bit stiff but I don't mind that because it makes it easier to adjust in small increments when taking pics.

this actually is a replacement. I bought one before. I love how it, along with the camera, are so small and fit into a carry on bag on the plane. I took it traveling to many different countries. The range of the zoom is what really sells it. You only need this one lens for wide angle shots as well as telephoto ones. The quality of the shots is excellent. Unfortunately I dropped and broke my lens, so I immediately replaced it with a new one.

    Great Buy

I am very satisfied with this lens. Recently shot a wedding, and a few other shots being a newer photographer. I really enjoy this lens replacing the kit 55-210mm. Not 100% as sharp as I would like but it's a minimal complaint. I have been able to capture some pretty decent shots, even as a novice. It might be slightly on the more expensive side, but again, starting out it is worth it. Makes learning a lot more easy.

The wide angle to zoom range is fantastic for my needs. Great or event photography where you sometimes have to zoom a bit to get a candid. Also good for outdoor. The lens feels sturdy and high quality. Auto focus is quick and quiet. I wish it was a little faster than f3.5 but I don't want to pay the money for that. It's bigger and heavier than the camera but the combination is pretty powerful.

This lens replaces the 16-50 & the 55-210 in my bag. I don't have to be switching lenses on and off out in the field any longer. It stays on my camera 100% of the time .. picture quality is very good ;)

    Great Travel Lens

I used this lens for my trip to Yosemite. I wanted to be able to use the widest setting to capture the awesome vistas and landscape, but also have the option to zoom way in to capture any wildlife. Since I used this lens on my Sony A6300, the range was really something like 27-300mm. I was so pleased to have this lens as I was able to focus on taking pictures and not necessarily having to change out my lens for certain situations.

Bought this lense to travel with , tired of carrying and changing lenses on vacation . It is expensive and little heavier than 55-200 mm lenses but worth it so I don’t have to change lenses like I did on my last vacation

The aperture is perfect for outdoors, its a little rough around night time. The bokeh is wonderful around the focus areas. The auto-focus is pretty quick. All in one lens for most occasions. I hope you will enjoy this lens as much as I do.

Lens allows you to take wide angle and long range pics without changing lens. It ads weight to the otherwise lightweight camera but is is worth the convenience.

    Good But Not For Me

    |

I really wanted to like this lens - I really did. I purchased it "Open Box - Excellent", and the savings was substantial. The two previous "Open Box" Sony E-mount lenses I've bought from BB arrived in amazing, like-new condition - this one, not so much. The OEM Sony box was quite beat-up, and I was fearful about the lens' condition; thankfully, the lens itself was in "Very Good", but not "Excellent" condition. I say that because the lens hood was missing from the package. Normally, I would've chalked it up to a bit of lax QC and purchased the appropriate Sony hood from an online source like eBay; in this case, however, that wasn't doable. This particular Sony lens hood retails for around a hundred bucks, and even used ones sell for sixty-five to seventy-five bucks. Yikes! Aside from that, the image quality was pretty good, I must say. Sharpness was about what I expected, soft at both extreme ends, but manageable by stopping down and additional tweaking in post. The other major downer for me was the weight. My understanding is the larger SEL18200 is even heavier, but this one still weighed down my NEX-7 to the point that I feared I wouldn't want to lug it around on our cruise next summer, which is why I purchased this lens in the first place. In the end, I think the combination of the missing hood and the weight made me decide to return this lens, but I believe that the SEL18200LE would be a good fit for the right person and the right application.

I haven't had the chance to do much shooting with this lens, but it seems like a great all-in-one lens! I compared it to the photo quality of the Canon 18-200mm and the photos seem very comparable.

I love how its a wide angle at 18mm, and has a great zoom, I can travel with this and not have to change multiple lenses. has the nice lock on the lens to keep it from sliding out.
