Customers are saying

Customers are enthusiastic about the picture quality, ease of use, and the 4K capabilities of this 43" Class LED Smart TV. Many also appreciate the attractive design and find it offers great value for the price. However, some users have noted issues with the remote control and stand, while others have experienced occasional problems with the operating system. Overall, the positive feedback on picture quality and ease of use outweighs the reported minor drawbacks.

It's a bit pricey for a 4K TV of this size at 43 inches. You can easily get a bigger Vizio 4K TV 50-55 inch for almost the same price or $1-200 more . But if you're looking for quality, then this TV will not disappoint. With the recent software update, my TV has been operating smoothy with no issues. If I can name one or two cons about this TV. It would be: 1. the power wire is short. (Which will only matter to those who are planning on wall mounting this TV like myself.) And 2. I wish it would've came with the nicer touch pad remote.

Upon purchasing this TV, I had one reservation about it. I am a DIRECTV subscriber and the DIRECTV 4K Ready software was not present on the TV. After contacting Sony about the issue and explaining to them what my situation was, they had the 4K software ready for download in 2-3 days. Once I received that update, that put the icing on the cake for me. The colors are vibrant and clear. The 4K programming that I have viewed on it so far is fantastic. I would highly recommend this TV for anyone that is in the market for a 4K TV in the 40-50" range.

After construction of our new outdoor patio cover was complete, we chose our 42" SONY SMART TV from Best Buy and had it mounted outside above our windows and doors. It is the perfect size for the area and we are using it's WIFI connection with delight when entertaining or relaxing outside. The features of this Smart TV are perfect for our needs.

I hooked it up and connected to my network fairly easy. The included content (Netflix, Hulu) is decent but more is supposed to be available soon. I want HBO go and the advertised playstation games they promised. Hopefully the update will come soon. The 4k footage I saw on this looked pretty nice. Can't wait for 4k standardization.

It's a TV. It is a bit too expensive at $800, but at $258 it is a steal. I've had it a month. It has component, composite, HDMI and USB inputs (No VGA input); Analog and Optical Audio outputs; built-in WiFi and stereo speakers. It works nicely. If you need more info than that you are too into TV and need to get out and experience living.

    Second Tv Works Well

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

First Tv did not work out of the box, main menu worked fine but would shut off at 34 seconds and flash a code 3 or code 6 on any input (Netflix, Youtube, and even the RF/Coax input watching Dish) We tried updates, bypassing the surge protector, switching outlets, and pretty much everything else we could think of but nothing worked. The Tv was a Christmas gift so when it was installed it was already past the Best Buy return policy limit and we had to deal with Sony customer assistance. After almost an hour on the phone with Sony trying everything under the sun, talking to someone with very broken English, they decided that the power supply/distribution module inside the Tv was defective. Sony ordered a part and set an appointment with a repair company to come to our home to fix the Tv. This alone upset us because we purchased a NEW Tv that didn't work right out of the box, not a repaired/refurbished Tv which is what it would be after someone comes, tears it apart, and monkeys around inside of it. Between waiting for the repair company to contact us, waiting for the parts to come in, and being able to set the appointment for the repairman to come to the house it was 2 weeks later. We had to waste an entire day of OUR time to accommodate the repair appointment and after the repair was complete the Tv still did not work. At this point Sony told us that they had to make a decision on how to remedy the situation. Really? It is quite obvious that the right thing to do is get us a new Tv. Sony told us that they would inform us of their decision in 2-3 days - no call. We had to call them after 3 days and they told us that a decision has not been made and that they would tell use in another 2-3 days - no call. We had to call Sony again and they said that they would send us a REFURBISHED Tv. After some arguing they agreed to send a NEW Tv and put us in contact with the repair company once again. Again we had to waste a day of OUR time to accommodate the repair company to deliver the Tv because Sony would not drop ship. Also we still had to give a credit card number in case they didn't receive the defective Tv back. Sony customer service, their customer service procedures and and all around methods of handling things are terrible. We purchased the Tv Cyber Week on sale from Best Buy and it was a Christmas gift so it is my fault for not trying it out while it could still be returned to Best Buy but it is Sony's fault for all of the aggravation, wasted days waiting for repairmen, and such poor handling of the situation that it took until February 5th until we had a working Tv. The second tv works well, the picture looks great and we do like the Tv. Have to get 90 degree RCA plugs to hook up vhs/dvd player as the inputs on the back are behind the wall mount. Not sure if I am huge on the whole "Smart Tv" thing because it does take time to boot up and most of the apps work just as well or better on the Blu-Ray Player and the XBox. I think they should still make a high end XBR line that is just a high quality monitor without all the "Smart" features.

    Just an Incredible TV

This TV is just amazing. The picture quality even with devices that are not 4k will look incredible. I love that the ports are on the side of the TV also allowing for easy cable management. Most of all though, its the built in apps and user interface that is impressive. The user interface is very easy to use, quickly and easy to get around (Has tons of options). Only downside to this TV is the initial setup which requires you to connect the TV to your internet and then proceeds to have you sign in or create a google account to take advantage of its internet capabilities. I say its a downside because, after this, it will want to update and takes about 30- 45 minutes for the initial setup. Nowadays use as consumers are so impatient that we want everything to be done instantly. Good thing are worth waiting for and this will TV will defenitely pay off once it up and running 100%. While at the best buy store, I was recommended the Panamax Conditioner power surge protector and I highly recommended also. The TV picture quality is so high that if you don't use some type of high end conditioner power surge, it will show some noise. Noise looks like small dots moving all across the display. I tested this TV with it and without the panamax and I must say the Best Buy Agent knew what he was talking about and the TV looks even better because of the Panamax Conditioner Power Surge protector, while also protecting my tv from power surges. Just something to think about.

The picture is great, the features are great. The only issue I have is that the TV is on a swivel stand, and sometimes when I swivel it, the channel changes...even a slight shake will change channels. Other than that, I am totally satisfied.

So, the Sony 43'' X830C Ultra HD 4K TV is the first tv I have bought for myself in about 2 years, My last was a 42'' Toshiba Regza from 2007, and so far it has met my expectations in terms of picture quality. Functionality wise, Sony does need to work out some kinks, but right now there's nothing to fret about. Tip: for those who hate that "soap opera" effect on the motion of TV's, you can turn that off, for sony's its the "MotionFlow" setting Also, if get a Ultra HD 4K TV home and find some of your cable channels don't look clear like in a store, that's because your not watching 4K content, each channel has its own resolution being broadcasted, so if your watching a 720p channel, it will only be upscaled by the tv to look better than what it would on a 1080p tv. Also depends on who filmed that channel and how well they filmed it. Pros: -Great vibrant colors -Great Screen Brightness -Remote is easy to use -Slim on screen edge and pretty slim depth on tv and stand. -Light bar(sensor) can be turned off for those who find it annoying, I don't. -4HDMI, 1 composite/component, 2 usb, optical, etc, all the ports you would ever need -Android Interface is pretty responsive after updating the tv out of the box. -Clear and upscaled Resolution when playing video games or watching blue ray movies, haven't tried 4k Netflix yet(remember, it is recommended to have a least 25mb/sec for internet speed to run 4k Netflix). Cons: -Black levels are not the best, but this is to be expected from this beginner level tv, its Edge lit not Full Array after all, or OLED for that matter, also there is a black level setting to make some areas of the content your using to look darker. -Android Interface Is responsive, but a pain to navigate compared to Sony's interface from the X800B and higher models from 2014. -Starting up the tv is seconds slower compared to most other sony TV's in the past, but hardly a problem, as long is the tv turns on at all. -Would have been nice to have 3D capability for the price, but still, nothing to get upset about. Overall though, great tv for the buck, wish I could have gotten my hands on a X850B but that's ok. 4 outta 5!

I bought this primarily because of how it looks. Not the picture, but the unit itself. This is far from my critical viewing set. This is going to go in the sunroom to watch the news, wheel of fortune, cartoons and stuff for my son, and random programming, generally while it's still light out - in the sunroom. I have a dedicated theater downstairs. So I bought this for the overall look. It's very thin and has a tiny bezel. I was hesitant to order it because I knew exactly what I was ordering...a bottom of the line UHD set. I had read some pretty average reviews. My thinking was I'd order this set and if I wasn't happy with it I'd send it back and order a better 1080p set. I've gotta say, I'm kind of impressed for $800. I had heard stories of very bad bright spots in the corners and along the bottom edge, but this really shows very little hot spotting on the black, unnoticeable on actual content. I'm pretty pleased with it, though if I were to do it over again, I'd probably look for a set with the same form factor, same smart apps, but 1080p. More on that in a few. Adjusting the picture settings is a pain for the streaming options because opening any of the settings immediately turns off the streaming video. A huge pain, except I've found that it keeps the same settings as the TV tuner, which is cool since those are my inputs. I don't have anything connected via HDMI yet. I've got it dialed in pretty well at this point, and it looks very nice. Other things I've noticed. It takes 4-5 seconds to actually react when you hit the power button. The key here is to be patient. If you are impatient and hit the button again, it will turn off right after it turns on. Just know there's a delay and wait. This could be solved if the power light would come on instantly, but it doesn't either. The wi-fi connection is much more solid than it was in previous firmware versions, which is good because I've been thus far unable to find a good way to run ethernet. I'm still going to try, but it's nice that wi-fi has locked on and stayed connected until I find a solution. I've been able to stream "4K" from YouTube & Amazon over wi-fi, so that's good. The set itself is beautiful. The industrial design is fantastic, and I love how, paired with a low-profile mount, it hugs right up to the wall. Small, sleek bezel and low profile were the two main reasons I bought this set, and they win. It looks just as good off as it does on. The screen is more reflective than the matte finish screen it replaced, but it's far from glossy. I knew going in that this would be there, and I'm happy with the set. Having a dedicated theater downstairs, I don't need the perfect solution for this set. I'd much rather sacrifice image quality than give up or put curtains over the 3 walls of windows I have in this room. Now, why would I opt for a 1080p set over this one if everything else were identical? It's not like this set was expensive, but I could've saved a few hundred bucks, and that's just good business. I started watching Orphan Black on Amazon Prime on Sunday. I watched a couple episodes in 1080p and they looked good. Then I decided to peruse the 4K content that was available via Amazon, and lo and behold, Orphan Black was also available in 4K (why the two versions weren't linked and auto-sensing display capability is beyond me), so I added it to my queue, removed the 1080p versions, and watched a couple more episodes, this time in 4K. Perhaps the opening sequence looked a little better, but I really didn't notice any difference at all during typical content. Not on a 43" set from my couch about 5' away. I'm not discrediting 4K, I'm sure it will prove to be higher quality in certain situations, but not in this one. But, quite frankly, I'm happy with this set, and it's not worth my time to take it down, return it, buy another set and set it up. The set was, in my opinion, still a steal at $800, especially considering the last time I bought a new flat panel set it was $2400 for a 50" 720p plasma screen (that was unfortunately stolen in a burglary in a previous residence - I loved that set). •I would give the 720p/1080p image quality a 9 out of 10. •I would give the 4K image quality a 5 out of 10, only because it was pretty much the same as 1080p - still good. •I would give the AndroidTV OS an 8 out of 10. I've never used any other smart TVs, so I don't have a point of reference, but overall the layout is nice, and everything loads quickly. •I would give the TV tuner a 10 out of 10. Locked in all expected channels and haven't seen a single blip of interference or hiccup. Better than the tuner in my TiVo Premiere box down in the theater. •I would give the overall design and appearance a 10 out of 10.
