I have been buying Samsung and LG TVs for as long as I remember. I have always stayed away from Sony because I felt it was over priced. I am pleased to say this tv is a quality television at a good price. I like all the features it came with and it included all of the streaming services I frequently use. The speakers are ok, but I purchased a sound bar to add to the quality. Set up was easy and it looks nice mounted. You get all the inputs you need and they are in a convent spot. Overall I am happy with this purchase.

I believe this is the best full smart HDTV that you can get for $799 that is a 120hz 55" plus on top of that you get 3D. If you dont mind spending $200 more you can get the 4K version for $999 but lose the 3D feature.

Actually went to Best Buy to purchase a large 4K computer monitor for a birthday present to myself but discovered via consultation with the product specialist that it was a waste of money because my computer didn't output 4K. He suggested a large standard monitor. But my current monitor is perfectly good so was not really needed. Then I thought since all I have is a 24" CRT tv that someone gave me why not get a big screen and run the computer through it too. Since the room where I planned to put the TV is not that big I opted for the 55" and this Sony was the one recommended by the employee. This was my first experience with HiDef. I didn't buy any HDMI cables because I had some at home from when I bought a DVD player but then couldn't find it so hooked it up to the cable. I was very disappointed in the resolution and thought I either got a lemon or my cable company was not broadcasting in HiDef. But then I did some reading and learned the HDMI cable was needed so bought some as soon as a I could. Reconfigured everything and WOW, was what I was expecting. So far I can't find anything negative to say about it. I not a huge TV watcher but when I do I like a good picture and this Sony delivers. Seeing movies and TV shows I've seen a million times are now like watching it for the first time. Saw the Wizard of Oz last night and was astonished at all of the stuff in the background I never saw before.
Oh yeah, did hook up the computer but it is actually too overwhelming as a monitor. Still watch YouTube and Hulu etc but just too big for a monitor.

I like it the software works well better than my samsung, which is a little slow. 1080p is good enough for me. I dont need the 4k hype. picture is sharp and crisp with over the air tv. netflix is great also, dvds are great. sports events are fine with no problems. very little picture adjustment almost perfect out of the box., Just had to adjust for my room . This is my second 800c tv from best buy in a 2 week time period. both tvs are perfect. I like samsung tvs { I own 1 } but I give Sony the edge. for better picture and software. Some people don;t know how to set up a tv so they just give it a bad rating. After your tv runs for about 100 hrs you should do a final adjustment. on the picture it will get better as the screen becomes more uniform, & things start working in together . and you learn to dial in the unit. It takes time. Not a 1 or 3 day task . take time to learn what each picture setting does. Any Who, I have two TV sets Sony 800C.
I rate them each 5 STARS. both 55 inch , I'm 10 feet from my sets. Like I said I don't need the 4k tvs I had one side by side with the Sony 800C and the 800C looked dam good. This is a second RATING post for the second tv I have purchased from BB Just to let you know...... Also BB is a great place to buy , just do your home work before going . So you know what questions to ask.. and after you get the answer, check that out, any one can make a mistake. It's up to you to to know what you are doing... Use Google and Youtube, also.......

Having done a lot of research on 2015 TVs, including reading reviews on this site and others - especially rtings.com, I decided that this TV was the best for my purposes. I use the TV for streaming, to watch blurays on my playstation 3 and to play video games. I'm very happy with its performance in these areas. The picture is fantastic, there's little detectable motion blur and it is responsive for video gaming.
I've also been impressed with the 3d performance of the TV, though I was disappointed that the TV's software limitations mean that I have to stream from netflix and vudu.com on my playstation as the android apps can't stream in 3d. It would have been nice had that fact been highlighted, as it would have saved me a lot of time troubleshooting and a lot of frustration.
My biggest complaint is that Android TV is terribly flawed. Despite updating regularly, the Amazon app crashes 90% of the time and has nearly been unusable. Too bad Sony didn't just go with a variation of their playstation operating system for this TV.
Rtings.com highlighted 2 problems with this TV: the performance of Android TV and the fact that this TV can't get very bright and isn't suitable for bright rooms. I certainly agree with the first, but haven't had any issues with the brightness of the tv at all - though my living room is not very bright, so I'd have been surprised had that been a problem.
One other complaint is that I understood the TV would come with an adaptor plate to use with mounting the TV in the future. That either wasn't included, or Best Buy's delivery drivers took that and perhaps the screws with them when they took the box. I was otherwise happy with the delivery service.
I'd definitely recommend this TV, but only if you have a playstation 3 or 4 in order to use the 3D feature with streaming and blue rays, and either a roku or apple tv so that you can avoid using the terrible android tv!

I work for a company that installs televisions professionally and we install many brands of TV. The new Sony's are quite nice. Picture quality is on par if not better than any of the other 1080p models out there. The new android interface is nice ( think any smart phone on steroids). The Sonys have really good motion and good color. Overal we have been selling mostly Sony to our customers for the last year and they have all been happy.

You just can't go wrong with Sony. The picture is absolutely beautiful. Smart features are great too. I LOVE the netflix button on the remote. I went to Best Buy planning to buy a Samsung or LG but their features just didn't match up for the price. I would give this 5 stars if it wasn't for the awful sound. You must have a sound bar or surround sound with this model. Overall very happy.

The refresh rate is a big concern for me, we mostly watch sports. I was initially going in for a 240hz Samsung, but since they don't really exist on store shelves I had to start the vetting process all over. I asked the Best Buy sales rep what he would recommend after telling him I didn't want to spend over 1k (no 4k ultra for me...sad smiley face) the Sony won hands down. The Sony processing "engine" solved the refresh rate issue about 91% to my satisfaction, better than double for the 240 motion rate (120hz) TV's. The table stand is kinda crummy but it does have a campy 60's (chrome tubing) vintage look to it that I am embracing, and the picture could be just a bit brighter (you get used to it pretty quickly) all in all I give this TV a 9 out of 10 mainly because I don't think any TV set should cost a thousand dollars.

TV is excellent, but do not bother to try to use the internet browser (which has to be download since it is not included in available apps) on the TV especially for streaming videos or anything comparable to that. To view internet items on the TV requires a device (such as a laptop or desktop) connected to a router or modem via cable and a HDMI cable attached to the TV and the device. I spent days and a couple of hundred dollars trying to get the TV to display streaming video using the TV's browser. Be aware that Sony's manuals, both the one included with the TV and the one online, are close to worthless. However, Sony's online chat support people are excellent. One last item - It took us several days to figure out how to easily swap between the TV and cable - to swap between the two: press the HOME button on the TV's remote, do what you want to do on the TV (Netflix, YouTube, other apps) and when you're ready to move back to cable, press the HOME button, scroll down to the line of HDMI icons, scroll across until you find the HDMI icon you have your cable plugged into, select that icon and you're back to cable TV. The one thing I do dislike is you almost have to sign into a google account to be able to do several things and the privacy statement says that google will collect information on what you view, what apps you use, etc. etc.

Absolutely love this tv, android system is fast and responsive. No crashes on any apps. Love that it has google cast on it I can stream directly from my iPhone. PlayStation now is also sweet. Basically I paid $700 for a tv, PlayStation 3 and streaming device all in one. Picture is clear love the 3D. I purchased Samsung active glasses for $20 since the Sony ones were $60. They work just fine. The only thing this tv is missing is the 4K display but otherwise great product extremely happy w it

Been looking for a good plasma replacement for about two months and from a quality and independent ratings perspective this tv came up as a "value" leader ...that being said I cant complain at all.. the smart features are easy and the picture is excellent, the styling is superior but the sound is medicore which is a coming theme among the new HDTV's... I do however recommend having the TV calibrated weather you do it yourself or not is a matter of $250...

Been doing a lot of research on this tv before I bought it. Love the picture and love Android TV. Works great with game consoles and movies looks great on it too. A lot of options and features that I'm sure I haven't even discovered yet. Before this, I came from an LG plasma TV and this Sony is by far, much better.

Overall, this TV looks great and sounds great. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was the first time I put in a 3D movie, it didn't work right in that the screen was split in two. After fidgeting with the TV and Blu-Ray player for a few minutes, I went to the internet and quickly found the setting that was off in the TV. Once I changed that, the 3D was awesome. But for a 5 start rating, I shouldn't have to go to the web for answers.

Bought a promotional Samsung at Wal Mart and it would not work and processor was way too slow and kept locjking up. Netflix was a no go and found out Samsung and Netflix don't cooperate. Went to Best Buy and found an excellent TV at a comparable price that set up itself with NO flaws and controls are not ambiguous like Samsung.

Sony is usually considered one of the best brands to get when it comes to televisions and this TV does not disappoint. Its only 1080P, instead of 4K, but for $800, its packed with features - especially if you have a Sony AV receiver or other Sony products.

After 16 years with a 36" Sony Wega flat screen I finally decided to buy a new Smart TV. There was nothing wrong with my old TV, but I was ready for a bigger screen. I knew I wanted another Sony, and my Surround System was Sony with Bose speakers. I researched for a good while and although I didn't want 3D, it was the TV I wanted and it has been great since first turning it on. I watched Avatar the first night and it looked and sounded awesome. I know from other reviews that some people had trouble with the TV volume but I haven't had any problem with it not getting loud enough.
I've had it for three weeks now and am really enjoying this TV. I hope it will be around for a while too!:)

We were shopping for our first new TV in 15 years, replacing a Sony 61" Grand Wega. I had been looking at the various 55" Samsung models, but had been spoiled by the extremely high quality processors in our Sony. None of the Samsung, Vizio, etc models quite measured up. Then the rep in the store pointed out this Sony model, and it was no contest.
The only problem we had with this TV was an occasional loss of the Pr channel when using a component video input, which is all our DVR could output (because it had a bug in its HDMI interface). I thought it was a connection problem, but a reboot of the TV would fix it temporarily. But it always came back. A few internet searches show that this is a well-known problem with Sony Bravia TVs, and they don't appear too interested in fixing it.
I was thinking about switching cable providers, and this was the last straw, so we now have a current vintage DVR with functional HDMI, and everything is fine.

I checked a few different televisions and was interested in a smart tv. I was replacing an Insignia via the extended warranty and this Sony was a great value for the money. I like that I didn't need to use my Chromecast on it (Googlecast built in) and the app options are great. I would have preferred one more HDMI port and one more USB port, but we're managing...
Sound is not great so definitely look into getting a sound bar. I haven't yet and it's fine, but could be better. Color is good and quick response from the remote.
The range on the WiFi antenna seems to be good. Chromecast had issues with old tv, but this one picks it up great.
Very pleased with this purchase, but after the issue with our last tv we won't forget to buy the extended warranty. This warranty took care of us and we liked the service we got (thanks Dave).
