I set the TV up myself, and it Replaced a Sony 1080 LCD large screen.
Out of the Box and connected it, a internet connection is a real requirement to update the operating software of this set ! I have it connected to over the Air Signal and Satellite. The Picture is great, It took two updates before I decided to keep the set as the set operation was terrible. I have had Sony TV's for some time and love the menu and operation system. This set after multiple updates has gotten closer to that standard. I also think that the remote operation is sluggish. The additional little simple remote that was included is hardly used as it did not function well with the set, and to me is not user friendly. Sony's Operational Documentation with the Set to get you started is very Poor.
The Set works well with the Dish Network Remote.
I have this connected to a Sony STR-DN1050 Amp, and I am pleased with the sound and operation .
I would recommend this set to someone who is Tech minded, has a friend that is Tech Minded, or if you have the Geek Squad help you set it up! Watching Regular TV shows, Sport,s and Movies on it is great.

The picture quality of this set is fantastic (after adjusting), and better than that of the XBR65X850B I have in my family room. The Android system is far from perfect -- not as many video apps as the old Opera system it replaces, and as of this time 4K streaming from Amazon Prime still is not available (Netflix 4K is available) -- but Android TV is still relatively new and hopefully updates will be regular. I'm a Panasonic plasma fan (I have 3) -- viewing angle definitely is not as good on this set, but the colors and black levels are great, and motion blur/judder are tolerable when considering the price point. The remotes (both of the ones included) could be better, but no regrets.

Hello all,
Since the reviews are based on products and personal opinions (mostly) then here is mine.
It took me quite a while to do a meticulous research about what tv brand features and all the bells and whistles I'd like the tv to have.
I'm blown away right off the bat. The tv is very nice and I think for the price 1200 is pretty unbeatable.
The quality of the picture is beyond expectation to say the least. Look at the pic.
On the other hand, some of the reviews are pointless as you read them. Took a good 40 minutes to set up (initial setup and firmware upgrade). It was very easy to set up the tv on its stand. Requires very minimal effort.
The built quality is very nice as well.
(This tv works out of the box without any glitches) so I'm not sure what some of the reviewers are actually reviewing:)!
Needless to say it is a great buy.
Very happy with it, and I would recommend this tv to anyone who wants to buy a great tv.

I originally went to look for at a Vizio M series TV but wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be. I read a lot of great reviews and really like the full backlit panel and 5 hdmi ports. The problem was the picture quality wasn't as good as I hoped. That made me rethink my options. I ended up looking at the Samsung 8500 and the Sony X850C. I've always had very good luck in Sony and do own a Samsung TV as well. It came down to cost and picture quality for me. I found that the Samsung's colors were brighter but almost seemed over exaggerated. Also when I was looking the TV was approximately $2500 more than the Sony. I've had the Sony now for over a month and couldn't be happier. The picture quality exceeded my expectations and with the cost savings I was able to buy additional equipment like the Sony HTX sound stage. It's a great pairing.
If I had to do it again I would come to the same conclusion.

First of all, I think the color Sony produces here is really incredible. The colors are more pleasing to my eye than most others, providing a much more natural viewing experience. The unit is feature packed and ready for the upcoming shift to 4K content. I do like the way Sony does up-scaling from lower resolution content. It is generally smooth and sharp, but keep in mind that bad content in will always equal bad content out.
The set also features the Android TV operating system and is packed with applications. you can get many more from the Google play store as well. Functionality and use of the android system has been solid for me.
Here is where it falls short for me. This is not really a limit imposed by Sony, but rather of the LED technology itself. Those amazing colors I mention above are only amazing when viewing straight-on or only slightly off-axis. Things quickly fall apart when moving off center and before you know it, the picture has lost all contrast and most of the color richness I like so much.
I want to stress that I don't see this as a Sony issue per se, but rather the technology itself. All sets using this technology will have this issue. Some to a greater extent than others.
If your viewing angles are within the optimal cone of this set, I'd strongly recommend it. It's a solid 5-star choice. Great price for great technology. If you have a wide room opposed to a long/deep room with varied viewing angles be sure to consider this limit.

I must admit I was skeptical about this TV but after unboxing this TV then pulling it out of the box, it was much thinner then my old Sony 950.
Now with the 3D and Motion chip in this unit, I can enjoy my Games and movies with vivid color and picture. this unit was very easy to setup.
the only issues I had at first were paring up the mouse Bluetooth controller that I really don't have a use fore and then the sound playing out of the TV to my Sony head unit was an issue, the fix for this was to unmounts the TV place the HDMI cable from slot 1 to the ARC HDMI connection then remount the TV to get the sound out of my Sony head unit in true 7.2 SS Sweet.
With the sync between my PS4 , the Sony Head unit and my new TV all items will turn on or off by my PS 4 remote, or the Tv remote making use of just one remote for all your needs, running Netflix Hulu or any movies tied into my home network NAS can be viewed from the menu on the tv with out the use of my PS4 or any other DNL player device.
I would recommend this TV to anyone. i give it a 4.5 out of 5 rating.

This TV is great. The panel has good, even panel lighting and doesn't suffer from the light-bleed around the edges of the picture like the step-up X900C models. Black levels are inky and the picture is pretty accurate in Cinema Pro picture mode with minimal fiddling. Upscaling is great as well.
The only negatives I've encountered are both due to the edge-lighting on this panel. The off-axis viewing of this panel is not as good as some other (albeit more expensive) panels on the market. Plus the panel is dimmer than some others I've seen. The larger X850C models (65" and larger) have backlighting, not edge-lighting, so the picture is brighter if that's a big concern.
Overall, I am very happy with my purchase. Performance is great, the TV is relatively light, and the price was great. You could do much worse.

I love this TV so much. I tried the Samsung SUHD JS7000 and it had a lot of light bleeding and some blue pixels, so I returned it for the same JS7000 and it still had light bleeding. Now I got the 55" X850C and the picture quality is amazing, the blacks are great, no light bleeding from the edges of the screen! The TV has a lot of customization and video options you can change. Right out of the box the picture looked great without changing too many settings.
Android OS is really a nice interface, its smart and pretty fast too. I like the way it looks. This TV has a lot of settings and it can be a little hard to learn if you aren't good with technology. The smart touch remote is really great, and it can do a lot. It can control pretty much anything that is plugged into the TV, even cable boxes, if you use the IR blaster that comes with the TV.
The sound on the TV is okay by itself, I recommend getting a soundbar with a subwoofer, if you want to watch movies. I got the Sony HTCT780.

As of May 31st, Sony has release the latest update which added Netflix as an app. Please disregard all the reviews which says this TV doesn't have Netflix.
The Good:
There a lot of option for customizing your picture. Even before customizing the TV looks great. The colors are bright, black levels are good. Just takes a little tweaking on the settings to get everything looking better. The GUI is simple to navigate through. Does what I expect a TV to do. Display great picture, and allow me to get to my channels, apps, or features efficiently.
The Bad:
Two things I've notice is every so often the TV like to start in the Home screen instead of the last input screen. This is more of an annoyance then anything else. The TV sometimes lags to turn on after pressing the power button. The final complaint is no easy access to the sleep timer. The remote has no sleep button, and you have to go through 2 different menus to turn on the sleep timer.
Conclusion:
This is a really nice 4k TV. Most of my issues can be corrected through updates on the TV. When I originally bought the TV. Netflix was not an available app to use. Now Neflix is available for the TV after it most recent update. The TV will get much better as more updates roll out.

This display replaced a 50" Runco Plasma which bit the dust way before its time. I was not thrilled with other LED TVs which I had seen in the past due mostly to the washed out black. I have owned previous Sony XBR products and have always been happy with them. After looking at many TV's. the price and the picture quality of this TV is excellent. It took about a week for me to transition from the plasma to the LED. Sony has greatly improved the black in this TV and the display of all colors is excellent. Real easy to set up and use. The only little thing that I wish Sony would not have done is put a gloss finish on the stand. In the dark, if the stand is used you get reflection from the display into the stand which is kinda annoying. Other than that, this is great product.

So, having done all the reading and research on 4K TV's, I was a bit anxious to buy one. I had to replace my existing 1080p, but had heard, and seen, all kind of examples where the 4K TV doesn't do a good job presenting regular tv programming whether it comes from satellite or cable. However, after reading reviews of the 55X850C, I decided to take the jump!
It is fully compliant to the new HDMI and HDCP standards for the forthcoming UHD Blu Ray Players.
Setting up the TV was easy. I did it myself and hung it on the wall where its predecessor used to hang. I also did my own picture tweaking. I mostly followed the advice from rtings.com and some input from the great people at avsforum.
The details. This TV does a great job up converting content from charter as well as other sources. The color is deep, vibrant and accurate after tweaking the settings.
The settings are easy to access and take some time to do. So be patient and give yourself a good couple of weeks to play with the settings to get them where you like them.
I have little to no motion blur watching movies, tv and football. I imagine there might be some with soccer or golf as they tend to produce the most on my old set too.
The Android system seems to work well but each app has its own quirks to get used to.
And right now this TV is at a great price!

I did a ton of research prior to buying a new TV before I bought this one. I debated the merits of 4K on a 55" screen vs. saving some money and just buying a decent 1080 monitor instead. I won't go into the same details about feature set and such that you can already find on multiple sites. However, even after reading chart after chart about viewing distance vs. screen size and resolution, and where it drops off and becomes moot, I almost decided against this TV. However, there is clearly a difference with this one, even on 1080 content. I did a side by side comparison of a the same movie playing on both monitors at the same time, and the up-scaling engine in the XBR model brought out detail on a blu-ray that could not be seen on the 1080 TV. The triluminos panel makes a big difference in color and contrast also. There is some very slight brightness difference on the very edge of the panel, but is is so minimal, that it doesn't draw my eye to it like so many other monitors do. I may post an update here after I have had it for a couple months.

My decision to purchase this TV was based upon just a few things. First, I definitely wanted to upgrade to a new 4K TV. Second, I wanted to spend no more than $900. Third, I wanted a good brand that had as many of the goodies as I could afford.
I went shopping on Black Friday weekend and went to look at 3 different 4K TV's that were advertised on sale for less than or equal to $900. (A Vizio, a Samsung, and the Sony X810C). When I saw those 3 TV's next to all the others, I immediately thought they looked bad. When placed next to all the other higher end models, they just looked awful. I think that perhaps at home they would not have looked as bad, but in the store it was really noticeable that they were not as good of quality. So I started looking around the store and my eyes landed on this TV - X850C. It looked great! It sat just a few feet away from the X810C and it looked 10X better than the 810. The Triluminos display made everything look much brighter and more colorful. The price was just under $1,200 and I decided it would be worth it to splurge a couple hundred more dollars. Also, I remember that the Samsung TV's all were super bright to the point of hurting my eyes and looked overly vivid. The Sony appeared much more realistic, even in the brightly lit store.
I opted to wait 3 weeks before having my TV delivered. During the 3 weeks after purchase and before delivery I read reviews from all over the web on this TV. Overall, the reviews were good. Rtings didn't appear to favor this TV, but other websites like 4K.com and televisions.reviewed.com had really, really good reviews on this TV. I also noted that this TV appears to be a BIG seller at BestBuy, with now 750+ reviews, while other models have less than 200 reviews. I read all the horror reviews about people who found "banding" and "uniformity issues" with their TV and others about how the Android OS is completely unreliable. I found none of this to be an issue with mine. I found the Android OS to be very easy and intuitive to use. I will also mention that there was not a single review I read that did not mention something about calibrating the TV. This is something I have not done at all. I may if I get bored. I took recommendations from televisions.reviewed.com and keep my TV setting on "Cinema Home". It looks great. Another thing I did was turn off the light sensor. It immediately became brighter and I liked it better. I have done no further adjustments. I'm sure the TV has abilities to do more and look even better but I don't really know what half of those settings do and I rather not mess it up and forget how I did it. So my TV is set on Cinema Home and it looks great. I have tried the "Sports" setting as well and it also looked good. I have not tried many of the apps but eventually I will.
I also purchased a Sony 4K upscaling Blu-Ray player. I bought a few movies that are "Mastered in 4K" and it really looks good - it looks just like streaming 4K.
Upscaling regular TV channels also look good and that was another concern I originally had. But as many other consumers have noted, Sony is very good at upscaling. Even old westerns look better.
So far I have no complaints. I think the price was good and the quality as well.
One more comment, coming from the customer service/hospitality industry, I will say that in the 1-2 star reviews, Sony does not do a very good job at responding to these consumer complaints. I hope I do not have trouble with the TV, as they appear to need some help in the customer service and reputation management division of their company. I saw some really awful responses from the Sony customer service on these 1 and 2 star reviews. Definitely would not make you feel confident in their handling of any situation. (Sony, if your looking for someone who KNOWS customer service, service recovery, and reputation management, CONTACT ME; I think you need some help!)

My husband and I looked everywhere for the best TV and the best price. I love Sony but was willing to give another brand a try. We are the people who spend 3 weeks researching a product before buying it. We ended up with a Sony, the color, picture, quality is great. The roku features, the Google voice, YouTube, all of that is really cool. Easy to use. I thought it would be too big but honestly its perfect. We love this tv and recommend it to anyone. I grew up on Sony and the brand is solid. We watch a lot of nature show documentaries and it is completely amazing. You forget you're watching it on tv. With the quality, it's like you're right there. Enjoy it! Plus, they have a return policy, so if you don't like it you cash take it back.
But you will love it. We've done the leg work for you. ..you're welcome! ! :)

I wanted an LG OLED originally but when I saw how close the color and clarity was on the Sony i went for it. The price was what I was looking for when buying a 4K tv and the upscalling processor is amazing. I have come to love the android tv that comes on the tv far better than Samsung's software. Overall this is an excellent tv you won't be disappointed! P.S. This Tv does have Game mode and be sure to turn that mode on when gaming it will lower the ms and make your experience even better.

I am really enjoying my Sony XBR55X850C Led TV. It's a smart TV so it connects directly to the internet. It's clarity is extremely good as it is 4k. You can set just about anything you can imagine as to the picture; color, brightness, picture mode, hue, 4k capabilities, and it even has a light sensor to adjust for room lighting. It's a truly amazing TV. It is also 3d capable, so you can watch your 3d movies with amazing clarity! It uses bluetooth 3d so you do have to have active bluetooth 3d glasses. I do really recommend this TV. Go for it, I think you to will impressed!

This Sony 55" Smart TV is amazing! It has an outstanding picture, better than the others I've seen, with 120/240 refresh rate so there's no smearing or ghost images following a moving object across the screen. I enjoy the "smart" features that allow you to change viewing modes quickly and seamlessly without having to re-construct your system when you go from TV to a DVD, or to go from cable TV to Apple TV, as well as lots of other features. I really appreciated the help we received from the Best Buy staff in selecting the TV that best fit our needs.

I bought this 4K TV as part of the Super Bowl promo in early 2016 and have only positive thing to say about the TV. For the price on offer, this was perfection in every sense. The screen size was a huge upgrade from my earlier 42" plasma, and the almost invisible bezel makes this TV a real beauty in the living room. The picture quality is amazing, especially when viewing 4K content, and the 3D features work perfectly. Setup was a breeze with Android TV, and I was up and running in less than 15 minutes. I purchased the sony 7.1 sound bar as part of the promo - and this complements the 4K home theatre experience perfectly. Overall, highly recommended.

DVD, Blu-Ray, PS3, PS4, XBOX 360, and XBOX One video is spectacular on this screen. The upscale on low res pictures is noticeably vibrant with bright whites and dark blacks, beautiful and natural looking colors across the full color spectrum. The screen is quick and responsive with action scenes nice and smooth, even with gaming is fantastic.
The limitations of the edge lighting tech does make whole picture darker when the scene is dark in general, but the images are still clear and is overall not distracting. I looked for this and other things other reviewers pointed when I first got the TV to test it out, but I found nothing that overly detracted from the overall great viewing experience.
Apps are plenty, works great with a PS4 controller, network connectivity to connect to all the video streaming sites is great as you no longer need a console or PC turned on to use them. The google screen saver is a nice constantly rotating picture on the wall when inactive. The voice search remote is nice and accurate for searching for online videos. USB connections to plug in a drive with music and pictures is a nice addition. I have yet to try the screen casting from the Surface Pro 4, but the tech specs say they are compatible (if not Microsoft has an adapter to fix that) to turn the TV into a large desktop. On top of all this the TV is highly energy efficient.

This tv has an amazing picture. The colors are unbelievable. I returned a 50" Vizio because I wasn't very impressed with the picture and I spent the extra money to get this one, and I couldn't be happier. The picture settings did need some adjusting to get the crystal clear picture with bright vibrant colors I saw in the store. Also we had to upgrade our hdmi cord for this new tv which was another $100 but man was it worth it!! It was a noticeable difference between the 2 cords, and made the picture that much better. Although i haven't gotten to try the 3D features out yet (due to the glasses being sold out everywhere) I am eagerly waiting to see how t looks.
