    Fantastic TV for the Price

I shopped for a TV for a number of weeks and of the 5 trips I took, all 5 times I was recommended this TV. I spent a great deal of time with the sales rep in TV's asking a lot of questions (I buy a lot of gadgets and electronics so probably asked more than most folks would), and each answer lead back to this product. It's my only Android based device and I was very happy with the speed at which it runs. UI is great for the smart TV only gripe is the remotes feel a little cheap. Despite the feel, they do work fantastically. I picked up an app based universal controller and quickly decided to go back to the standard issue because they worked so well. Even the voice recognition works great, being able to speak a movie into the remote was awesome and worked better than a lot of other devices. I would highly recommend this TV given my experience so far. Only other complaint is the reflectiveness of the screen, however this seems to be a common issue across most TV's currently so its no better or worse than any others. I would say the only step up from here is OLED, and until those prices come down, this TV by far gives you the most bang for your buck.

We had an idea of what to expect when we brought this set home as we have had a Sony Google LED TV for the last 3 yrs, but WOW, this upscaling 4k is a whole new experience! There are many venues available for viewing in 4k right now and it's the trend that's becoming more popular with all media both public and private. We are ready for that future with this TV and so happy with the ease in using it. Nothing is complicated with the functions of this set and after a easy set-up your enjoying a whole new experience right away.

I absolutely love this TV , I did lots of research looking for a 55 inch smart TV and kept coming back to this one . the picture is incredible and all the smart functions are fast and easy to use . after looking at cheaper sets that claim to be equals , I feel I would have regretted not buy this TV as the others did not stack up in performance not matter what they claimed. I will enjoy this for years

This TV is exceeding my expectations. I read many reviews and wanted a Sony anyways as I love the brand. I upgraded from a 40" so just the fact that it's a 55" screen is excellent enough. The colors and clarity is amazing!! Picture quality is jaw-dropping in my opinion. The sound from the TV itself is like any other I've encountered and has always had me upgrade to a surround sound system. The built in Chromecast is an excellent feature and I love the fact that I can stream videos from my phone or tablet to the TV. Extremely happy with the upscaling and can't wait for 4K content to come around. Highly recommend it!!

Looking to upgrade my 37" tv I checked deals for the holiday season and this led me to look into 4k tvs. I tried an lg, sharp, Samsung all in the $1000 dollar range. I watch soccer, the signal coming from England is not as good as our hd so at first I was disappointed with all tvs. I won't speak to samsung 8500 or above models, or lg oled models, but anything in the price range of this Sony 850c does not even compare for features, picture quality, and refresh rate needed for sports. I tried really hard to save money and not sacrifice quality, there was nothing less than $1200 that can compare to this tv.

A Great Sony 4K TV, Right Price

After doing research, I decided the 850C was the sweet spot for quality and price out of Sony's 4K line-up (the more expensive 900C is thinner and has Sony's Clear View screen tech but it wasn't worth the extra premium in my view). This TV (and Sony in general) gets high marks for upscaling HD content to 4K, and we've also been very pleased with this so far--I bought it mainly for the upscaling and the 55" screen size (a big jump from our 46" screen). Best Buy price matched a local retailer and so I was very pleased with the price and ability to pick it up in my local store (instead of having it shipped).

Went to the store to buy a Samsung JS8500 or 9000. I was prepared to overspend for the Samsung product. When I arrived, I ran into the Sony rep and other store associates. After assessing features, quality, price etc the Sony offered everything and then a little more on features that what the Samsung offered. Both the Samsung and Sony have great picture quality, I think the Samsung is more colorful because it is brighter but has more fake colors than the Sony. Sony definitely has more natural or realistic colors than Samsung in my opinion. Watching movies on this Sony is good, picture is good. The only complaint I have is that sports doesn't seem to be as good as watching other movies on this tv or I haven't figured out how to adjust it yet. It just doesn't seem to be as clear on sports as other things such as movies, etc. it seems to jump around like it lags a little bit but it's not terribly bad. I am scheduled to have a calibration in a month so we will see if that helps. I do say that priced at 1199, that's not bad for what this tv offers. Comparable samsungs are $500 more. The one thing I wish is that when in store you could watch a live broadcast of sports or regular tv to see how it looks. 4K content on this tv is great. I heard from our installer that this tv updates a lot on its own and when it's updating if you turn it off or lose power that the circuit will not be good, will ruin the tv. Not sure how accurate that is. Good thing I have a 5 year service plan but I didn't buy a tv to just have it for 5 years. This is my first Sony tv and I can tell you that if it doesn't last at least 10 years it will be my last. So far this tv is a real nice set. Also got the sound bar and subwoofer with it. Great setup.

PROS: Android TV is great if you are in the ecosystem. Can be clunky at times but overall very powerful. Extremely attractive TV, tons of inputs while maintaining a slim footprint Perfect size for a average sized(15x20) living room Amazing picture quality for what you paid for. Black levels are great CONS: The LED back-lighting is the only drawback I can see visually with this TV. Not the brightest because it is edge lit. Still no Playstation Now Support and can't hookup a DS4 controller Updates take upwards of an hour

Best purchase in a long time! Originally bought an LG 50" 4k smart tv for $600 and was beyond disappointed with the quality of the picture as well as it would NOT connect to my wifi. This Sony has it all and them some. Fantastic picture all the apps you could ask for, as well as you can play PS3 on it with just a ps4 controller. That's right. Has ps3 games built in! Option after option with it. Haven't even been able to go through all the apps yet but I could not be happier with this purchase. It was double of what I originally spent($1,199.00), but SOOOOOO worth it!

I have had the TV for a month. Love the picture, the refresh rate is great. This is the second Bravia XBR I have owned, I replaced this first with this TV. The only negative would be the sound(speaker placement), the speakers are located on the bottom of the TV, where as the last XBR I owned the speakers were located on the front of the TV and pointed toward the viewer. I will be getting a sound bar to over come this problem.

Best 4K TV for the money for sure hands down no questions about it!. The upscaling on this TV is the best you will find period and the Native 4k is an awesome visual expeience as well. Sony has announced that the XBR 850c series is going to get a firmware update for HDR 4K content in the near future definitely makes this TV the a best buy in 4k TV's. Not to mention the price keeps falling as well.

The TV itself is good, good picture quality. AndroidTV system is generally good, plenty of apps to use. One useful functionalities is the Pic Off, which lets you turn off the screen when you're using it for Pandora streaming. But beware if you're buying a refurbished item from Bestbuy though. The unit i bought was only supposed to be missing the screws and i realized the touchpad remote is also missing when i unboxed it at home and saw the contents included. Called the bestbuy store and they had to have me box the whole thing and take it back and my car won't fit. The remote is not a must to navigate around as it has a regular TV remote, but still. Just double check, it can get tricky.

This Sony replaces an old Samsung 32" panel that was very old but working well. We have had the Sony now for abut 8 weeks. I must say that the picture on this is outstanding and the built in upsampling does work great. I've been told by many that Sony makes the best upsample engine and I believe it. The android operating system seems to work very fast and does not seem buggy. So far there have been no issues with the OS. We hope we get the longevity out of this TV like we did with our old Samsung. I would buy this TV again.

I have to say Sony hit a home run with this television, great features and future proof for 4K enhancements. I use Android TV a lot and enjoy the ability to add apps and use Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, and Vudu. I also read that this model will be HDR compatible via a software update....this is real important for 4K blu-ray and content. I must warn you that ARC is really important if you use this TV with an AVR, if your AVR is not ARC capable you will need another audio cable (optical or coaxial will work) in order for Android TV to produce audio. It is a fantastic TV with excellent picture and features.

Sony lives up to its reputation with this tv. I bought this tv based on Sony reputation for picture quality. I install satellite tv and see all makes and models in people's homes every day. Sony Bravia has always been top shelf quality. This tv surpassed my expectations with the android operating system and the ability to run apps from google play. Refresh rate is incredible and unlike the other brands offerings at this price level Sony has more than just HDMI only for input options. It has RCA, coax and S-video inputs so no matter what you need to connect there is a choice.

The X850C picture is excellent and I haven’t had to adjust any settings from default. Both DVDs and blu ray look great and Netflix and Amazon work well. I watched a few Ultra HD programs on Amazon and the picture is stunning. Hopefully there will be more Ultra HD content soon. No complaints from my son when using it for gaming. I originally bought the Samsung JS7000 but returned it because the back light ruined the picture when watching movies. I also had problems with the audio. I have to say the return process at Best Buy was excellent. The issues with the Samsung are well documented in the www.rtings.com web site which has very thorough reviews of all the TVs. I was planning to exchange it for the Sony X810C but the sales person suggested the X850C saying the triluminos display gave a better picture. Can’t say if this is true, but I am very happy with the X850C. I hadn’t considered it because I thought the only difference was it included 3D, which I wasn’t interested in. The TV includes a second remote that has a swipe pad for controlling the on screen interface and audio input e.g. for YouTube searches. I was skeptical initially but this remote works well and I use it all the time. Rtings give the TV a low score for the audio. I haven’t noticed a problem, but use a sound bar most of the time which works well. The other criticism is the loss of color saturation at an angle. This is true (very noticeable compared to the plasma I replaced) but not an issue for the way I use it. The TV works well in light and dark rooms. Overall I am very pleased with the Sony and hope it lasts as well as my 10 year old Panasonic plasma that is still going strong.

I purchased this TV to replace a 32 inch Westinghouse TV. I researched 55 inch TVs and kept coming back to the Sony because of its unbelievable vivid picture. The colors are fantastic. No matter what angle I sit at I can still see the luscious reds and greens burst forth from the screen. Watching sports programming is incredible because you can see the tennis ball or football. There are no shadows with fast-moving objects. I also purchased a Sony sound bar to go with the TV. The two products together have made TV watching a new and exciting experience.
