A few weekends ago was shopping in Magnolia area at BB for new 4K 65in TV. The XBR-65X900C was NOT on display (my first mistake/red flag), however there was a Sony Specialist on site and told me Sony had BB pull all the old "lots" from warehouses and light bleed problem was fixed in newer lots/serial #s. Showed me the 75in version (XBR-75X910C) which by the way is about 3/4in thicker and thus no bleed issues and is really a different body thus fixed problem in different model number! Anyway, I should have listened to the reviews. This tv has severe light bleed areas in all the corners of tv and worse in the bottom left and right corners. Any dark scenes or banners along bottom during football etc, get washed out in corners. My TV was manufactured Sept 2015! This is not acceptable that Sony continually sells this model. It needs to be recalled immediately. Best Buy/Geek Squad was absolutely amazing in quickly coming out and exchanging the model with the Sony XBR-X850C. Night and day difference, no bleed and much better picture. Advice: wait or go with different model, don't buy this one!

    Not Worth The Money

This TV looked great in the store. I had read about the light bleed online and was insured by my salesman that the issue had been fixed. Well the TV arrived today. Picture looks great, but there is very bad light bleed in both left corners and bottom right corner. Can not watch any Blue Ray DVD's in letterbox form or anything with dark scenes. The light bleed is bad and almost pulsates at times. I will be returning the TV tomorrow. Too bad I have other Sony products I really like. Unfortunately the bad out weighs the good on this TV. I am fixated on the light bleed and can not get past it. A TV of this cost and caliber should not have this bad if light bleed. I am going to exchange for a Samsung TV.

Same light bleed issues as many other buyers

After doing extensive online research, I had strong reservations regarding this much reported "light bleed" issue on the XBR65x900C. After speaking in depth with the store manager at my local Best Buy, he assured me that the "former" light bleed issue had been identified by Sony and had been fixed at the production level. He told me that only the early production lots had this problem and the re-issued sets had the issue fixed. The manager was very knowledgable about UHD technology and told me this model was his FAVORITE model they carried in 65" and in my price range (under $3000). I really like this manager and don't think he intentionally tried to deceive me.The HDR feature and local dimming in this particular set were the things that distinguished it from the competitors (Samsung, Vizio, Sharp). He said only the LG OLED is superior but that was out of my price range. I have had the set for about a month now and I can't take the light bleed any more. It is not only distracting to watch, but is makes me angry that I have better pictures on my lower priced TV's. I called this manager back and he acknowledged that he has "recently" read up on this light bleed issue and is convinced that Sony has NOT fixed the issue. He said he would try to see how he could help me deal with my dissatisfaction if i call him back tomorrow. I appreciate that he offered to try and get one of the new 2016 "equivalents" as they have just been introduced at the 2016 CES show in Las Vegas. I will see what he has to say tomorrow. In the meantime, I called Sony direct and filed an investigation/complaint with them. Of course Sony denies knowing ANYTHING about this light bleed issue and advised me to take photos of the screen and email them to their customer complaint division (which I did). We will see what they have to say. I have the feeling Sony will give me the corporate run around. I will update after I speak to the BB manager tomorrow.

Very happy with the TV so far it's been approx. one month since i bought it and no real complaints. I do have just a bit of light bleeding but not enough to return or dislike this 65" Sony. I saw the reviews before i bought it, but for the discounted price it was selling for it was very little risk. Mine was produced on Jan. 2016 which is one of the more current production dates available. i added a Sony sound bar to it for better sound and bass than the built in speakers and it sounds GREAT !

I purchased this after reading all of the reviews and doing all necessary research. The TV is absolutely stunning, impossibly thin, and is everything that I've wanted in a TV. The only down side is that there is small light bleeding out of several areas of the edges. It's not a horrible issue, and it doesn't really bother me. It's just a little noticeable, which is why I only gave it 4 stars.

Picked this up a couple of weeks ago on an excellent open box deal. Had read the reviews so I was aware of potential issues knowing that if my set was awful I'd bring it back. Well after dialing it in, a return is not necessary. I'd guess that many of the negative reviews did not take time to set backlight and black levels, turn off light sensor, adjust color, etc. The only area where this set has issues is on letterbox material where the light bleed is generally mostly noticed but minimized with appropriate settings. On full screen content, especially 4k, the picture is excellent. The TV upscales very well, 1080 content looks great. Amazon, Netflix, 4k HDR blu rays all look fantastic on this set. The Android OS is excellent. The only way to get a set with better black levels and minimal to no light bleed would be to jump into the 930c (don't like the speakers) or go with the D series and spend 2x+. If you can find a set for less than current retail and you're willing to put up with the shortcomings it's an excellent set. a great one as a placeholder while OLED tech is dialed in and becomes more affordable.

Promising 4K TV undone by backlight bleeding issue

    Posted .

I purchased a XBR65X900C during Black Friday weekend. I was aware of the bleeding black issue prior to this though online reviews. However, there were also a good number of reviews where consumers noted the backlight issue having been fixed. Prior to committing to the purchase, I spoke with a few sales people at Best Buy who said that Best Buy actually put a stop sale on these sets a few months back due to the backlight issue. The sales person also stated that Sony apparently had recalled any stock prior to Sept 2015 and that the backlight issue should no longer be present in any TV from Sept 2015 onward. Fast forward to taking delivery of the TV early this past week, the backlight issue was still present on the Sept 2015 manufactured XBR65X900C that I received. Having noted this, I went back to Best Buy and asked for an exchange for a different XBR65X900C which was granted. I received the 2nd XBR65X900C today and unfortunately this set still had the black light bleed. The annoying part was that the 2nd TV was a Aug 2015 manufactured set. I have contacted Best Buy and am in the process of exchanging for a 3rd XBR65X900C, perhaps this time I will receive a TV with no bleeding backlight issue. Receiving a 3rd XBR65X900C with the same backlight issue will probably result in a return and a purchase of a Samsung or LG elsewhere. During the time of having had the set and tested it. I will say that the TV worked well. Network connectivity via wireless was great. Android TV worked well - although the GUI response between the TV and the smart remote could've been snappier. Youtube and Netflix worked great. 4K content was well reproduced on the screen. Gaming was good. In the end, the backlight bleeding issue ruined the watching/gaming/user experience as it can be noticeable when watching/gaming in most light conditions. Given the premium nature, price point and expectations from this TV; it is very hard to overlook the backlight issue. Would recommend a comparable Samsung or LG OLED TV until Sony can definitively sort out this issue.

Light Bleed Issue, SONY wont fix

I had saved for this TV for a couple months before I could get it, When I went to purchase the TV it was no longer deliverable. I assume because it was being clearance out. I then drove around 300 miles to get it from my nearest store. I get it home, turn it on. It has great picture, great features. The 4k was mind blowing. I then started to noticed the corners when the screen was darker. It had the light bleed issue I had been reading plagued this model of tv. (Side note, the Best buy rep said this TV wouldn't have this issue). I then started asking friends about it, they immediately asked about the corners. I called Sony, got the warranty replacement process going. They told me that this is a mirror image, and is how the TV is suppose to look. They offered no other help, TV is less than a week old. My advice, buy some other model than a SONY.

The X900C is an amazingly flat 4K TV. the picture quality is amazing, when viewing in well lit rooms and watching bright shows like sporting events. This unit had the light bleed issue that was obvious at night and watching shows with dark scenes.

The TV comes with great features, such as, Android TV. The picture is fantastic. The TV up converts old shows to look crisp and smooth. Only issue is the light bleeding that most people report. For a TV of this price and for company with the reputation of Sony, I expected only perfection. I do my best to ignore it, but it is still noticeable.

First unboxing of the tv, Loved it, but right away i noticed lighbleeding in both lower corners and across the whole bottom on a complete black screen and the corners showed during regular tv. I was displeased but almost expected it out of all the other reviews. I took it back and exchanged it for another one. Second unboxing i open it and *whoa* i had no idea this tv came with headphones and a usb. and not 2 batteries but 4 (for the 2 remotes it has). So it as plain and obvious that the first tv i got was returned from someone else (assuming because of lightbleeding) Not only did they just wrap it up and resell the faulty Tv. they didnt even bother to check and see if everything was in it. Back to product, Pros: Amazing Picture Amazing Color AndroidTV Playstation Now (Stream games) All of this works Flawlessly Con: the smart remote takes a little to get used to after using an LG Magic Remote.

Excellent picture quality with standard (1K) resolution, have not exercised 4K. Would rate audio quality as good, better than average. Disappointed by no RCA jacks at audio output (cost savings?). Rather, one 3.5mm headphone jack used which failed during first week of use (replaced under warranty). Also aggravated by repeated sign-ins required by NETFLIX whenever a 2+ day gap in usage existed (expect this will be corrected by a software update down the road). Overall, very impressed with picture quality, screen size and thinness. Also impressed with the number and variability of visual and audio settings available to the user.

I did my home work thoroughly before I purchased this TV. I compared prices, read reviews on here, amazon.com, sony.com and walmart plus google. The TV quality is superb but I was very concerned with the light bleed issue. So when I went to purchase it, I asked the sales person about the "know light bleed issue" and he guaranteed me that "that stock was returned/recalled" and all new stock has the fix. I came home with it, installed it, followed the 1 hour update and FUDGE!!!! Sure enough, right and left bottom corners have light bleed (see pictures). I can care less about the cable room in the back, I have everything hidden in the wall anyway. And I think Sony messed up by going with Android, but I have an Apple TV (2015 model) and an Amazon 4K Fire TV along with a Tivo Bolt connected through a Bose 130 system. But how do I live with the Light Bleed?? Sony? Best Buy? Am I returning this TV tomorrow? I hope to God there is a quick fix, otherwise, I'm returning it and getting an OLED (at this point, even money is not an issue....I am upset and disappointed!!)

Spent plenty of time reviewing this set before making the purchase. I had concerns with the light bleed issue raised by several folks. I raised this with my BB and Magnolia rep and was told this was an issue Sony was aware of and that certain production lots were the ones subject to the issue ...they also guaranteed I would not get a set with light bleed. I didn't. The net is that this is a very nice TV with great blacks and whites. When 4k content is available, the set shines even more. The upscaling ability varies with content but moving 1080 up is a strong point. Lower content is harder to upscale and even this set struggles a little. But given the starting point, the clarity is better. My only negatives are that this set does not have an anti-glare coating on the screen which makes viewing harder if there is natural light or indoor lighting directly in line with the set. In darkness it is great. The other negative is the wall bracket. I didn't use it. I'm not mounting a $4,000 TV on something that isn't as wide as necessary (65" set) to engage the wall studs. I reverted to a traditional wall mount to hold this. All in all, I'm happy with my purchase.

Clear sharp picture with the triluminus diaplay enhanced picture. Android feature with voice search capability is fantastic when connected to internet. Only problem is when picture does not encompas full display there is some light bleed at corners. This is not a deal breaker as you can adjust back lighting to reduce this problem, otherwise I love this set.

I decided to hold out for a Sony when upgrading from a 42" to 65", and I'm glad I did. The primary reason is the picture quality, build quality, and the AndroidTV system the TV runs on that is now apparently exclusive to Sony. That provides me the ability to install a lot of Android apps and extend the TV to be a classic game emulator, Google or Spotify music streaming, local network and streaming content viewer and much more that I wouldn't get on other "Smart" TVs. As my first UltraHD TV I am also impressed with the picture quality and lack of artifact when using native Netflix clients or similar. The light bleed some have mentioned is only faintly visible on an all black screen in a darkened room. They provide two remotes, a minimal touch remote that pairs over bluetooth and a standard Sony media remote. You can also pair a PS4 DualShock controller and utilize that, which comes in handy with the various GooglePlay game and emulator apps. Finally the design, with it's thinner-than-a-cell-phone top half and reinforced steel handle made installing on a standard tilting wall-mount a breeze for two people.

Everyone loves the picture on this Sony 4K TV - the colors give the picture unimaginable depth - just beautiful. The TV is really thin so it doesn't stick out too far from the wall which is great. However, the thin TV has no place for good sound from good speakers. We bought a Sony sound bar with sub-woofer and now everything is perfect.

I purchased and open box items which only had a small scratch on the screen but save $900 and this scratch is barely visible. When the TV is on, you can't see it. This is the thinest TV I ever seen. The picture is stunning! the size fits perfectly on my large wall. It is Android ready which makes it easy to use with any Android products.
