Sony failed to deliver 2nd set with light bleeding

I have always respected Sony for its attention to detail but they sadly failed to deliver it with my purchase of their X900C. I'm on my 2nd exchange and I don't believe there will be a 3rd, considering just going to Samsung. Unless Sony would like to swap my X900C to their X940C which has no light bleeding issues as they described in the following WSJ article: http://www.wsj.com/articles/this-year-buy-a-tv-thats-actually-better-1447181077 "The HDR TV with the most impressive color came from Sony, but the $3,800 65-inch X930C model I tested came in last in darker scenes. ****Sony says its 75-inch $8,000 X940C model doesn’t have that problem thanks to a different backlight technology****".

Good TV if you can get past the light bleed issue

I read many reviews before purchasing this TV. Many people were complaining about light bleed issues and showing pictures, etc. That being said, I also saw that Sony had apparently "fixed" the issue around Nov of 2015 and as long as you had a set with a serial number later than a certain number it indicated that the set was new and shouldn't have the problem. Taking all of that into account, I figured I'd give it a shot. I've wasted days on this TV. The set that I received had a later model serial number and should have been just fine. The first time my wife and I watched this TV at night I was very disappointed. There was a huge light issue at the bottom right corner of the screen. The bottom left was displaying an issue as well, but not near what the right was. I thought maybe I was just being overly cautious because of my previous research. When I took my pictures to the best buy store, the manager said it was the worse case of light bleed he had seen. We exchanged the unit for a new one hoping that would do the trick since sony had "fixed" the issue. Second set, same issue. Light bleed at the bottom right and left of the set. If I'm paying a couple grand for a TV, I expect to get what I pay for. Needless to say, I've exchanged this TV and going for a different manufacturer. Although I will say, the Android TV interface and apps I did enjoy, just wished the light bleed issue wasn't there.

Great picture, super thin. Sound not so clear. Bought sound bar. but have not installed it yet. TV hangs like a picture. Amazing how light and thin for its size. Just only gave 4 stars because of sound.

    900c-good but sad

Let me start by saying I am lifelong Sony tv fan. All my past 3 tv are Sony and I still have one of them in my bedroom. I went to the local Best Buy store looking for a Sony 4K tv - I had in my mind the 65in 850c primarily at 2k it was right on my budget. Also then I glanced over at the 900c and fell in love with the thin flat screen right away. The pictures at the store looked amazingly good and a sales rep made a good presentation which inclined me toward this television. I went back home did my research and found that 900c has a chronic light bleed issue. Went back to store and checked with the sales rep they confirmed that Sony has fixed all issues with the tv and current batches have no issues, also at the store were present Sony reps who also assured me that everything in this tv is better and all light bleed issues have been fixed. Listening to all this I made my mind to go for the 900c even though slightly outside my budget. I get my first Tv and woah-- light bleed at the bottom right corner , center and left bottom. I took the tv back to the store for a replacement and got another tv home and woah this one also had a light bleed slightly less but very prominent. This time I was upset and called the store they delivered a third tv for replacement and what-- this had an even worse light bleed. Regarding the TV except the light bleed the picture quality is truly amazing. I am really amazed at Sony as how they can introduce such a good product with such a poor quality checks into customers hands. I got an 850c and I can easily notice a drop in clarity. If Sony can provide me one 900c without any light bleed issue I would gladly change it back.

This TV looks great on my wall and the picture on it looks great. I do not notice any light bleed or other issues that others have reported. I asked the sales associate about that exact thing before purchasing the TV and he stated Sony had fixed the issue. For the price, the quality of this TV is outstanding and I am really glad I was able to get a decently priced 4K TV with Passive 3D like this one as the Active 3D gives me a headache. I would gladly recommend this TV to anyone looking.

Picture: TV has a good (not great) picture when connected to your television provider's standard 1080p receivers. Colors are very rich and vibrant and can be easily changed depending on your preference (warm/cool scheme, custom, etc). The edge bleed that occurs in the corners of the TV is very apparent when displaying dark images and could be something that makes or breaks this TV for you. Picture seems to hold up well at most viewing angles without much impact to colors and brightness. Glare has not been a prevalent issue but I would not recommend setting this up anywhere with direct natural light in line with your viewing location because I could see it being troublesome (as is with most TVs). Sound: I cannot speak to the sound quality as I have this connected to a sound bar system. Seems to be okay given the small amount of time I've ever had the volume up. Design: VERY thin! This was the first "ultra thin" type TV that I had purchased and I was very surprised how thin it actually was, almost to a point of being flimsy. Should be handled with extreme care and make sure it is not in an area where any abuse of any sort could happen. Mounting to the wall was very effective and looks great at about 45" high to center. Port locations were all rather convenient and are somewhat tailored to mounting on the wall, especially with a lower profile mount. Software/Apps: I don't really use the smart TV application very much as I have it hooked up to an Xbox One (already an all-in-one TV/apps/games system), so I personally have very little need for this feature. The apps do seem to be pretty quick and responsive from anytime I or my kids have opened them up, usually be accident. Overall: Great 4K TV for the price (purchased for about $1800). Picture could leave some viewers wanting more, but it works for us. I'm hoping the best is yet to come when I can fully use the 4K feature and not just rely on the TV upscaling 1080p picture.

Yes, this tv does bleed light a little (right lower corner) but its overall build and quality is far exceed my expectation. 4K, and Bluray are amazing. Wifi connection is excellent and its smart feature is one of the best. I hookup a HD-Antenna and got some local channels. Amazon prime and Vudu streaming are looking so good on this TV. The only downside is the minor bleeding issue so I take one star out.

We originally purchased the 850 but it was way too thick and looked cheap on the wall. The 900 looked fantastic right up until we turned it on. The light bleed on the lower corners was completely unacceptable and we replaced it with a second one. The staff at Best Buy was excellent and checked the second set in the showroom. It looked fine so we took it home and installed it. A week later the bleed was worse than the first set. We returned it and purchased the LG OLED. It's unbelievable Sony allows these to be sold knowing how inferior they are.

Love this tv, great picture and color. Quality of picture is fantastic. We play a lot of games on it and haven't had an issue with it yet. Love that it can have android apps on it. Constantly watching youtube and playing NES games through an emulator. We expect this tv to last for quite some time. Upgrades aren't bothersome. There is a little light bleeding, but it's usually not bothersome.

Light bleeding for this TV is inevitable if the brightness is set to high (like for HDR content). the picture quality is great and the upscaling is almost flawless. the smart feature are great addition. passive 3D does the trick but is not as good as my other Sony with active. It would look great on a bright lighted family room. if you find the few left dirt cheap i would recommend it.

I will first admit that I have yet to explore all of the of the options available - and there are many, which are likely good. Overall, the basic functionality is good and it was an easy setup once the updates were downloaded. The fact that it came with its own wall mount was nice. The picture is very good, except that I too get the white bleed on the edges that others warned about in reviews, but I was told was taken care of. I haven't lodged a complaint because it only happens noticeably in selected scenes - and not enough to take it down and haul it back in.

Purchased the Sony XBR65X900C and would have been happy with the tv, but this model is prone to the light bleed issue. Returned this TV after a few days, the light bleed was getting worse and worse. Purchased the new model Sony XBR65X850D. We could not be happier that we made the switch. The 850D cost $600 more (currently) but the picture is perfect, and clear.

Light Bleed, worse I've ever seen...

Let me start off by saying I'm a loyal Sony customer. I own several PlayStation's, surround sound systems, smart phones, and other gadgets. So to say I'm disappointed in this television purchase is an understatement. Even at sale price of $2,299; this is not a cheap TV. For anything above $1,500 I would expect perfection in terms of build quality. But unfortunately, this is not the case with this panel. The physical build itself is gorgeous, the design is great, and the overall aesthetic is very impressive. However, those positive comments CANNOT outweigh the atrocious light bleeding that this panel exhibits. Being the loyal Sony customer I am, I returned my first 900C and got a nother 900c, hoping that this second attempt would have better results -- I was wrong, this second 900c had even worse light bleeding than my first. I've tried adjusting gamma correctly, turning brightness down, etc, but this still does not hide that fact that this near "premium" TV is anything but. With light bleeding this bad, I wouldn't even recommend a purchase of anything less than $500. This is not a bash, and I hope Sony takes note of all these negative reviews regarding their quality control, because this is unacceptable. I would really hope Sony would offer me some kind of discount on their 2016 models because this has really disappointed me and my family. Essentially wasting over $2,500.

I saw this TV in store and thought it was beautiful. The sales associate really sold me on it as well - I bought it in store without doing my homework. After getting it home and wall mounted (Best Buy did a wonderful job), I noticed about a week later that it had the dreaded light bleed. It really is terrible. Like, really bad. Everything Sony has published saying that the problem has been fixed is COMPLETE rubbish because I just purchased the TV recently which is months after the original problems were reported. I cannot decide what to do. It's already mounted on my wall. Do I buy a Samsung? Do I call Best Buy? Do I call Sony? Ugghhhh

After extensive research, it seemed like this TV was the best dollar for dollar purchase. After two weeks, I still think that's true. The picture is incredible. Colors are vibrant and blacks are deep enough. My only complaint here is some ghosting along the bottom, but I knew to expect it. The smart capabilites of this TV are, far and away, the best I've used. Between the access to Android apps, built in DirecTV tuner and Playstation Now capability, this TV is full of real, useful smart features. Finally, this thing just looks great hanging on the wall. The reason for four stars, though, is the nearly useless included mounting bracket. The sales rep went on and on about the included bracket and how easy it worked and how great it looked. However, the bracket is only 10" or so wide. Unless you want to cut a hole in your wall and install a cross brace, you'll need to use a traditional wall mount and that will, to some degree, counteract how slim this thing is. It's also worth noting that the feet this thing stands on if not wall mounted are WIDE. Overall, a great TV. If the mounting plate was about a foot wider this would be a no-brainer 5 stars.

This TV was exactly what we were looking for. It replaced the Roku with the Smart functions, and the sound bar we added was a perfect addition to watching movies in 4K. The sleekness of the thin frame adds a distinguished look to the whole living area. It's a great TV, looks great, sounds great and we got a great deal.

The picture on this TV is absolutely amazing. I would have given it 5 stars, here is why I didn't.... 1. The mounting bracket for this TV is really small, and will not stretch between two studs. I think with very little effort they could have come up with a solution that could expand and allow the TV to slide left and right. If you are not a do it yourself kind of person have someone install this for you if you are mounting on the wall. 2. The TV is so thin that in the 4 corners of the TV you will see the backlight bleeding through on very dark scenes. This is with the factory settings though and is easily remedied by turning down some of the brightness and contrast settings, which I would recommend anyway. 3. Lastly, speaking of settings, there are like a thousand different settings on this TV, which can be overwhelming. There is no manual that walks you through all the menu options explaining what each one does, so you are kind of on your own with this. It took me a few weeks fiddling with the settings here and there as I had time to do so, until I felt I had it set for what is best for my viewing pleasure.

We are very happy with this TV. The Android interface is great, as are the Smart features. We use it for Netflix all the time, and the streams look gorgeous. We have it connected to a home theater PC primarily, via HDMI, and this picture is also excellent (HTPC is set for 4K). The upconversion of DVD and HD content is quite impressive. The bezel is AMAZINGLY thin -- I still can't get over it. Although, I wish it were just a LITTLE thicker. You see, it is so thin, that the LED located along the perimeter of the screen have little hotspots that show up on a black screen. This is not a real problem and is generally unnoticed, except and very dark content, but it is there. Also, twice now, I've needed to reboot the TV as it has lost the internet connection (wired LAN) and can't seem to get it back. All-in-all, though, we are very happy with it.

Disappointed in the light bleed from the lower edge an especially the lower corners. Tried adjusting the brightness down to 0 and that helped. However then the picture quality suffers. The 4k picture is very nice. 3d is nice. The light bleed is not always noticeable, just when the movie or TV show is dark at the bottom. I would consider a different Sony model either one up or down from this model
