Gray oval area in the screen as soon as delivery driver turned it on. He said, "It's okay, you have 14 days." I should have refused delivery and made them take it back. Best Buy wanted me to put this 65-incher in my car and bring it in to exchange it, but Brandy in Home Theater support call center got set me up with an in-home exchange. I'm grateful for that (even if it did take me over an hour of 5 phone calls and that's a whole other review).
Can't really say if I'll recommend this product until I get the new unit.

I purchased this TV, and, I can honestly say, I'm very happy with the TV itself. It has an amazing picture, fantastic color, and the upscaling for HD content works very well, especially with a great signal, like a standard HD Netflix stream. I'm coming from a very high end Samsung Plasma, the 51" FN8500 from 2013, and was constantly amazed with the rich colors and deep blacks it produced. This set, after almost 2 weeks of patiently tweaking and fiddling with the picture settings, is just as good or better, in color quality, and far surpasses it in resolution quality.
That being said, the one issue with this set is Android TV. I thought that I'd actually love it, since it was Android, and not something proprietary, like SEN from my Sony Blu Ray player. The interface for Android TV itself is great, and there is already a great many apps that work with it. The issue, however, is that this iteration of it is pretty glitchy. It freezes sporadically, as well as causes my TV to randomly reboot. I've turned off all timers and power saving features, but it still reboots at random intervals. Also, it asks to update at the most inconvenient times. Why can't it do it as part of an automated process that runs at like, 3:00 AM? I never even knew when my Samsung was updating, since it did it in the background, overnight. Instead, with this set, it asks to update right about 8:00 PM, when my wife and I settle in to watch our shows.
Overall, this is a fantastic set, and I'd absolutely buy it again. It's a Sony, and you can't go wrong with Sony and 4K. They have the most experience with it in the market today. The picture is great, the build looks and feels solid, and there is a wealth of features on this set that usually only comes on the higher end ones. Sony is simply being crippled by a poor implementation of Android TV with their hardware. Since this is present on all Sony Smart TVs for 2016, we're stuck with it. It's not enough to keep me from recommending this set, but it is enough to annoy me. For the price, however, you can't beat it. Do yourself a favor. Get this TV, curse at Android TV from time to time, and then revel in the beautiful picture that this set produces.

Better than my plasma

I originally purchased a Vizio m65-c1 based on online reviews to replace my dead Panasonic gt60 plasma. After getting it home and mounted immediately I noticed a huge downgrade in picture quality with satellite. Since I watch satellite 90% of the time it is important that it not only looks good with blue ray.. I tried many different calibration settings and no matter what I did I couldn't get the color to pop and there was this gray tone to the picture. Even my wife commented on how the picture looked washed out.
After speaking with several Best Buy employees and a few other retailers, they suggested I try the Sony xbr 85c. I hadn't considered initially due to it being out of my $1500 budget. I decided that I would take the Vizio back and go ahead and spend the additional $800 and purchase the Sony.
Right out of the box without any calibration it looked great! After a few tweaks I can truthfully say that it looks close if not better than my plasma. The colors are excellent, the picture is clear, blacks are excellent and the up conversion works great.
I would high recommend this tv to anyone looking for a plasma replacement.

Great gaming TV

Great gaming TV!
Has a low enough input lag (~64ms) with all the picture performance features enabled. This is very hard to find these days in a large 4k/3D TV. What that means is there is very little lag from the controller to the TV while there is high motion control and picture performance features enabled.
I originally bought the 60 inch Samsung JU7100 and had a lot of issues with it (app crashes, popup ads..). My biggest issue is that when playing games, the input lag was so bad (~127ms) that you have to switch it to Game Mode. And most Game Modes degrade graphical quality to reduce the lag. The problem with that is that there was so much motion blur on that large of a TV that it was giving me headaches. I returned it.
The X850C still has a Game Mode if you choose to use it (will reduce the input lag to ~39ms), but it isn’t needed for most people. And unlike the Samsung, the X850C allows you to tweak the picture performance settings while Game Mode is enabled (Samsung greys these options out so you cant change them).
If you are looking for a great gaming TV, get the 65 inch X850C. I suggest the 65inch or above because they have direct backlight, the 55inch and lower are edge lit.
I hope this helps someone cause it was a pain for me to figure out.

Pros: great colors (especially 4k content), detailed image quality, very good upscaling, many up and coming picture enhancement features such as hdr and rec. 2020 color spacing, quality blacks for an led tv, many ways to adjust picture quality, nice looking tv even when turned off
Cons: even though the blacks are great they can't compete with oled technology (but the Sony is about half the cost of a 65 inch oled tv), only ok picture quality with lower quality sources such as DVD, sound quality is only fair so you'll need a sound bar or other sound system to match the picture quality
Overall, I'm very happy with this tv. Best Buy was also very accommodating with doing a return exchange on my first 850c tv which had light bleed along the right and left edges. Geek Squad returned to my house, setup the replacement tv on the wall, and took the defective tv. My previous Sony XBR tv performed well for about 10 years, so I'm hoping this one will as well.

If you are into tech and want to stay in touch with new technology then this is your TV. Picture quality of 4k is simply mind blowing. Upscale of Netflix movies is just amazing. Upscale of regular cable is just ok. The blacks couldn't be any better. Its better than my plasma TV. Android works perfect for me. The TV updated without any issues. Keep in mind " DO NOT " unplug the TV when the update is in process. It's like the brain is updating and if you unplug half way the body just wouldn't know how to react. I returned 3 LG models before settling on this one. Its worth every penny to me. Yes I really wish the 3D glasses were included. Therefore I will make sure I do not buy Sony Glasses. As this is a stupid strategy on Sony's part. I just cant support that. After you spend a fair amount of money, one would expect the manufacture to include compatible glasses even though it would just be 2 and I would have bought few more from Sony. SONY STOP BEING CHEAP. YOU ARE ONLY MAKING YOURSELF LOOK BAD. Anyways. To the people who have issues or if there is some type of freeze. Remember the right way to do a hard reset is by holding the power button on the remote for few seconds and the TV restarts and everything gets back on track. I believe there were some user errors and some actual defective TV's. Good Luck and do not hesitate to buy this TV as you should not be disappointed. SONY STOP BEING CHEAP AND GIVE US OUR GLASSES!

I purchased this TV sight unseen based upon the reviews I read online. I couldn't be happier. I have an eight year old Sony 46" LCD that has been trouble free so it stands to reason that I would be partial to Sony. However, I did shop for several months and researched several brands. The picture is phenomenal on the 850C. The DirecTV tech even said that it was one of the best he has seen. 4k video is amazing as is 1080p. The upscaling is great on high definition content but be advised that if the video going in is poor quality, this won't fix it. But anything within reason looks great. I love the 3d as well. This Is the first 3d TV I've owned. The Sony BT500 glasses weren't available at the time so I purchased the active 3d glasses made by 3Active and they work fine with absolutely no cross talk that I've seen yet. The touchpad remote is pretty good once you get used to it. I use it pretty much all the time. The voice search in YouTube works really well. Basically, I can't say enough good about this TV. Essentially, I have not experienced any bad issues raised in any of the critical reviews I've read and I would recommend this TV to anyone.

The Sony XBR line has always delivered high quality and the XBR65X850C doesn't disappoint. The picture is absolutely beautiful. The TRILUMINOS display offers really impressive color contrast / black levels and the built-in 4K upscaling is really impressive, especially when displaying from a 1080p source. PS4 games look fantastic with no upscale issues. Integrated Amazon Prime and Netflix apps are great and the streaming/processing speed is incredible. The only negatives for me is that this TV uses active 3D glasses (TDGBT500A) which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but those glasses are not sold in store and can be really tough to find. If you're considering a 4K TV, I would highly recommend taking a look at this model.

Good: Picture Quality, User Interface, Great sound, 4K upscaling
Bad : Wifi connectivity is lost sometimes after power down
Picture Quality:
In one word, this TV is AMAZING! The picture quality is like no other TV i've seen. Only TV that supersedes this is Sonys new 900 series. The first thing I did was try out the 4K content in Netflix. You must have the $12 a month subscription with Netflix in order to watch their 4k content. I watched the "Deserts" and then the "Flowers" documentary on Netflix and it was mesmerizing. This TV made me feel like if I reached out far enough, I could touch the sand and the flowers.
Sound:
TVs are known to have terrible speakers...but not this one! Before I connected my sound bar, I used the TV for three days without any other source of sound and I was very impressed with the sound quality. Annoyingly the TV does not switch back and forth from built in speakers to external sound if you are using an optical cable. I believe this can be solved by using an HDMI cable.
Physical :
This TV is very thin, not like the 900 series (too thin in my opinion) and it does not weigh much. If your purchase a traditional tilting mount, expect the edge of the TV to be 4-5 inches away from the wall. The connections are difficult to get to one the TV has been mounted so plan accordingly.
Android:
The first time you set it up expect to spend an hour performing the software update. The Android system is a big laggy but I think it's because it's still fairly new and Sony has already performed one update to it. Over all this new Android system is a 9/10. It allows you to do voice searches and is very responsive 9-10 times.
4K content:
There is not a lot out there! This TV does a very good job of upscaling 1080p content and blurays.
This is the best 4k available to buy for an affordable price and amazing quality. One you have this in your home and are watching your favorite Bluray or som new 4K content, you will never go back to anything else.

My wife and I went into Best Buy to purchase wireless surround speakers. We came out with Sonos speakers and this Sony 4K TV. I've been wanting to upgrade for some time, but was always weary with technology changing so much and the price of most 4K televisions. After seeing all the options out there (LG, Samsung, Sony, VIZIO and Sharp), it was clear that Sony held the reins in 4K. Samsung was too over contrasted and too vivid. They always have those TV's cheaper because the features that matter isn't in them. I've owned just about every brand of TV listed above and Sony has always come out on top in terms of quality and support. This TV doesn't disappoint.
The android system OS is very easy to navigate and has icon based apps that are very similar to how an iPhone works. You can download a ton of apps that suit your needs (Netflix, HBO Now, Hulu, YouTube, etc.). I've recently downloaded an app called "Plex". It allows you to install the software on your TV, computer, phone or tablet and stream videos to any other device. I used it to download Fargo Season 2 on my iMac and was able to stream it to my Sony 4K TV.
I was worried about the 65" looking too big in my living room, but we were replacing a 55" and it becomes the norm when you get used to it. We have it stand mounted with 2 dogs and 2 cats and it's very sturdy. It's also very thin, so the sleek look and minimum room is a huge plus.
Since it's a Sony, you can purchase a Dual Shock 4 controller and download Playstation 3 games to buy or rent, right on the tv...WITHOUT NEEDING THE CONSOLE!!! I have the Xbox One and enjoyed Playstation games, but couldn't warrant the purchase of 2 consoles. Now I don't have to :)
The 3D feature was very surprising. Having only watched 3D movies in the theater before, I didn't know what to expect. I did my research and found that Best Buy sells Samsung Active 3D glasses for $19.99 each and they work on this TV. Sony has glasses for $100, but save the money and purchase the Samsung ones. They work the same. The first movie I watched was Avatar. WOW!! Amazing how you can see the objects in 3D, right in your living room. Now it's not super right in your face, but enough that differentiates between 2D. The glasses were extremely light and barely noticed they were on. They are powered by a watch battery and can be linked to the TV through Bluetooth. Amazing world we live in.
NOTE: You'll need to buy a 3D Blu Ray stand alone player to watch 3D movies. Sony has a great one for $99 - Sony - BDPS6500
If you were wondering what Con's I might have...well here are a few, but definitely nothing that would sway me from purchasing this TV over again.
CONS:
- Built in speakers are pretty weak. Buy a surround sound set (Sonos recommended)
- The touchpad remote is too small to hold in my hand and have since switched back to the regular remote.
- After hooking up TV...the box it was packaged in was a chore to get rid of.
I'm extremely happy with this TV and would recommend it to anyone looking for a perfect 4K TV in their home.

I did a very through research and considered Samsung, LG and Sony and decided on the Sony XBR65X850C due to Sony's reputation, true color, good dynamic range with the Trilumnios panel, and the reputation for superior 4K upscaling, HDR support, simple but elegant exterior design, the Android OS, and the awesome touchpad remote, and of course good value as well. In my opinion it beats out the Samsung JU7100 series but only slightly less than the Samsun JS8500 and at $500 cheaper. LG is no comparison to either Samsung and Sony so it is really finally comes down to the JU7100 or the X850C. Vizio was briefing considered but it is not even in the same class at the other three.
So far the TV is working wonderfully after the firmware upgrade and at vivid picture setting. I think considering all selection criterias this is the overall best 4K TV you can find today.

The picture on this tv is absolutely stunning even old movies on blu ray look amazingly awesome. There is not a lot of 4k content at the moment and that's true for every tv right now. But if you want a fantastic TV that upscales to 4k and is also 3d then I would say buy this right now. I love it and don't regret getting it. I own XBR55X850B and I can confidently say that the XBR65X850C is a huge leap and a vast improvement over the previous model. I can only hope that Android TV gets better to make this great TV greater.

TV picture is excellent. Crisp, clean, defined and dark blacks with bright, true whites. 3D is exceptional. Sound is very good as well with good base and clear high-end notes. Setup and connections are clear and easy. The navigation with the remote is smooth with the touchpad functionality. Native app content is good with the ability to load others from Google store. The Android system has faltered on two occasions resulting in the TV rebooting. Also, since the Android OS is always running even when the TV is turned off, once it just started playing the sound through the speakers hours after the TV had been turned off for the night. Bottom line - it really is a great TV with a great picture and features, at the right price point for 4K at this point.

I originally ordered the 65" X900c model, but once I looked into that one I saw all these issues with it so I decided to cancel it and change my order to this model instead. The image is great and since I was upgrading from a 46" the TV seems huge. As far as 4k I don't have much to watch so I can't comment on it, but all my video games look great and the colors are much better than on my old TV. I still have to set up some more apps and do a proper calibration, but the menu is quick and responsive. I like the big remote better than the small touch one, but I use them both. I'll type with the touch one and navigate menus with the large one. Oh, it did take quite a while to turn on the first time and update the firmware. There was a progress bar while downloading the update but not while it was installing so it was frustrating to not know how far along that part of the process was. The TV stand was nice because i mount my TV to my furniture, not the wall, and so when I needed to adjust where I installed the bracket on the TV I could just slide the TV back onto its stand, adjust the bracket, and then try putting it on the furniture mount again

Newest Sony in 800 series with all the bells and whistles for first rate internet experience. Best 65 inch HD picture for the money. Picture is consistently better than any other in its class on all source materials. Upscaled every source intelligently. 4k programs are even more stunning and look like high resolution photographs with 3d-like depth. Beats Samsung, Sharp, and LG equivalents. If you are picky, only this Sony or the costlier 900 series should be considered. You would need to spend $1000+ with other brands to come close to this quality. Simply put, buy this 65 inch, or if money is no object buy the next model up in the Sony lineup 900 series. Certainly, no rational need to spend more.

I love this TV. It has a tremendous amount of features and I found myself using far more smart tv options than i expected to. The picture is incredible and looks amazing mounted on my wall.
My nitpicks:
1. No 3d glasses. I feel I paid more than enough money for this tv to have come with 2 pair of 3d glasses
2. The touch remote decides when it wants to work. On today and off tomorrow if it isn't feeling it.
3. (Assuming it is the TVs fault) The connection between youtube videos likes to drop and come up with an error message even though the tv is connected via ethernet cord to my router. It could be my router to be honest so take it with a grain of salt.
4. Tv was acting up and not letting me execute some apps or download new ones. A factory reset took care of it but I was on the phone with tech support for 30-45 minutes.

I do recommend adjusting all the video/audio settings first to suit your preferences. I love the 3D feature, and since it's active 3D it doesn't give me headaches like passive old school 3D! (buy the Samsung active 3D glasses, they are much cheaper than Sony's and they work just fine. They just don't say on the tv when they're connected by Bluetooth, but the light will blink red) The display is stunning, and I'm very happy with the sound quality as well. Having a smart tv is great. There are a lot of buttons on the remote, it will take some getting used to, but I highly recommend this tv for anyone interested in a 4K tv!
