My Sony 4K is big and beautiful. The 4K images are crisp and lifelike
and the up convert from broadcast HD and DVD and Blu Ray is excellent. However VHS still looks like VHS, just larger. Garbage in garbage out you know. This is a smart TV as well and makes streaming from Amazon, Netflix or other sources easy as well.

As soon as I saw the sale price of this tv, I was excited and breath less. I always wanted a high end 4K tv but didn't really wanna pay full price. I highly recommend this XBR850C to anyone looking for a 4K tv. It comes loaded with excellent picture quality in 2k or 4K. Not to mention it's also 3D ready as well.

Not great so far

I tried the 55 and it was great--liked it so much I wanted to get the larger 65 version. The 65 hasn't been great so far and seems to have some banding issues(vertical discoloration panels) or lacks uniformity. Mine has a strip of blue/green in the center. I've calibrated, reset, tried build in picture settings, but I can't get this thing dialed properly. The 55 presets were great and really didn't need much, but I can't say the same for the 65. The interface/menus will also lock up periodically, but I'm sure this can be remedied with a firmware update.
The other issue is the upscaling from 720/1080 to 4k. This is rather hit or miss and really seems dependent on your source--so if it's mediocre then it's going to look pretty bad. Clean sources can look good, but many of them aren't good from directv or comcast.
I'm somewhat torn about swapping for another(assuming it's defective) or downgrading to a 1080p tv. Posting pics of the banding issue.

I bought this TV to replace my ageing 46" Sony Bravia LED TV. The sheer size and the fact that it cam be picked up by one person was amazing. The picture is phenomenal and the LED response it great, I can not see any ghosting or motion blur. Great TV and not a bad price point either.

I was debating between this Sony and a Samsung, definitely glad with my decision. The picture is so clear even without 4K. Haven't tried out the 3D yet but with how everything else on the tv works I'm sure there will be no issue. Definitely recommend to anyone who wants to upgrade there tv experience.

I picked this TV up for $1799 around Thanksgiving time. This TV has great smart TV features (Netflix, Amazon, Android) that are easy to use. The overall picture quality is very good but I wish it had a little more pop in the colors that are displayed. This TV has good black levels and there is very little blooming that is observed when watching TV programs and movies.

Got this after reading online reviews. Originally purchased a Samsung Black Friday special. Returned it because of Blu-Ray playback choppiness. The Sony had much better reviews, and I had Sony previously and loved it. This TV has outstanding picture quality, playback, and the upscaling is fantastic.

If you are looking for a smart 4K tv you can't go wrong with this Sony . The picture is great because of the Sony tricolor technology no one else has this. It's the best smart tv because the OS is android based . This tv has it all !

so far so good, I've been looking to purchase a TV for my living room for some time now. At first I was looking at the previous model year the 850B but comparing the two the 850c took the cup. The reason I went with this model instead of last years is On color reproduction. The 850B when I first saw it thought wow this looks so good. But after seeing the 850c it's more of a natural color tones and it's not as vibrant which I knew over time I would probably turn down the settings for the color. Anyways so far so good I'll probably chime back in once I get more viewing time. It's only been two days since I've gotten it setup. HBOgo from my Xbox one looks pretty good especially with game of thrones awesome...

Moving from plasma to any other kind of TV is tough, even one as good at this. It’s been on the wall and in use for only a few days so still working to get it all set just the way I want it and getting used to the different picture, but so far I’m very happy. Due to lack of 4K content on cable TV I did not upgrade my A/V receiver so it’s all up to the TV to up-convert the signal and generally it’s doing well. With a little trial and error (and using the online help guide with my lap top) it did not talk long to get android device mirroring working, web access, and many of the other cool SmartTV functions working. In the store this TV seemed to have the best display and that latest SONY technology since it is new this model year. There were other 65” 4k TV’s for much less money but none looked better (some were far worse) but I plan to keep this for many years and figured spending a bit more now for the newest technology that will stay current for longer is better than planning to spend again in two or three years.

I have been looking for a large flat screen tv not really knowing what I would want. After discussing the set with the sales tech, it became clear to me that it was a good buy with a lot of features that more expensive sets have. I am very pleased with the product and would recommend to anyone

Sony's XBR65X850C is a great introduction to large screen 4K TV. Viewers will not be distracted when watching the 65" screen due to a very thin black bezel. Colors are good because, although comparatively inexpensive, this set features Sony's tri-luminous display, which provides greater color depth with high dynamic range (HDR). Two remote controls (one is a simple touchpad) give access to the sets many features.
The only negative comments I might make would be that the Android TV home screen could use refinement. Even so, the suggestions it presents to users are interesting. And, the apps available include an internet browser and YouTube, as well as the ubiquitous Netflix and Amazon Video. Movies and TV shows available through these apps offer surprisingly good quality (a Wi-Fi connection is necessary, of course).
I should also mention that this set offers superior 4K upscaling for those watching Blu Ray discs. But, I am waiting for more 4K content, which is, thus far, only available through the sort of apps mentioned above. That means it is not necessarily as sharp as desired.
All in all the best set for the money in my opinion. Yes, I would love to have purchased an OLED set 75" or larger. But, that would've more than doubled the costs of this Sony TV!

For the price we love this tv. Great clarity and easy to use. We had geek squad come and mount it to the wall. We will have them come out and calibrate it soon. It take about 45 days to have the crystals set, and after about a week we noticed the picture got a little sharper. We wanted to get the LG OLED tv, but we weren't going to spend 6k on something that would eventually come down in price after it's been on the market for a bit. The price on the Sony was an easier pill to swallow and is great to hold onto until the price of the LG TVs come down. Friends come over and love the picture quality. When they ask how much, they're shocked about the bang for the buck. I would recommend this TV to anyone looking for a 4K tv that doesn't want to spend an arm and a leg to get one.

I have been researching this model for some time and finally went for it. I am not at all surprised at the overall image quality. Colors are accurate right out of the box, not oversaturated at all. I was even pleasantly surprised by the sound quality produced by the TV before I connected my audio system. I can say that for such a thin TV the sound is not terrible. It did take a LONG time for the firmware update to run when I did the initial setup, but once that was done everything runs fine. The included smart apps are easy to navigate and the native 4K content on Netflix is beautiful! The only drawback is that there are no active 3D glasses included, but I have a pair from on older samsung model that work. Like I said, overall this is a great set, and definitely would buy again!

I did a lot of research before finally choosing this particular TV—I must have read hundreds of reviews on BestBuy, Amazon, Crutchfield, etc. The things that helped to seal the deal were the technical reviews at rtings.com (which also include the calibration settings to get the most accurate picture) and seeing the TV in-person at the nearby Best Buy. We mainly use the TV for watching movies at night (when it is dark) and watching sports in the evenings, hence the lack of brightness needed for a bright room has not been an issue for us. We also do not have any native 4K sources, yet the picture is quite amazing. We love it. We purchased this TV because we wanted a larger screen, the 4K resolution and HDR features will be nice as the number of 4K sources become more readily available to the average person. I highly recommend that you take a look at rtings.com before you buy and use their calibration settings to get the best picture from the TV.

i have always bought Samsung but this is my first experience with Sony and the 4k technology but I am very impressed with the picture quality and very user friendly. I would probably look at an open box item next time just for better deal but the 0 percent option was very enticing

The sales people were very knowledgeable except for one thing. I was advised I could get the app for TWC and I haven't figured out how this is possible with this TV.
I really didn't realize I had the 3D either until I read this product online.
I would have been rated higher if the glasses were included and the apps for my cable would be on here.

After looking at many TVs and reading lots of reviews I decided to pick up the Sony xbr65x850c. It has a great picture with vivid colors which are rich and bright but not overdone like some other brands. Just like most of today's thin TVs, sound is weak but that is nothing that a decent sound bar or audio system can't fix. The viewing angle wasn't really my primary concern, but it handles that better than expected. The reason I marked this to 4 stars is the built in AndroidTV. The interface and system menus are not very intuitive and I had to restart the TV a couple times because of glitches like getting no picture, only sound when changing the input. Overall I am happy with the TV and love the picture...just wish Sony didn't integrate with AndroidTV.
