Product was good enough - seemed to have trouble converting to larger TV

Pretty nice the only thing I just wish there was a way this automatically went off when the movie was done playing. We use it in our little girls room and so far no issues can be a little loud I have noticed and takes forever to play but it works for what we need it for.

This is identical to one I had for about 8 years that just quit working. I don’t want to switch my hundreds of DVD’s to blue ray so this is the perfect machine and very affordable.

Simply put, this is a simple Sony DVD Player. You'll enjoy the quality of DVD movies and easy-to-read menu options. There's no HDMI cable included with the box, so you'll have to get one. Other than that, Sony delivers. A++

I didn’t expect much for this price, and I certainly didn’t get much. This thing is about as basic as you can get. This was the cheapest one I could find that used HDMI cable connection which I needed.

Right out of the box, this DVP-SR510H DVD player exhibited a problem. In particular, while playing a DVD, the picture would sometimes freeze. (Other reviews have complained about this same problem). After experimenting with several different DVDs that all exhibited the same problem, I was able to determine that the 510H rarely froze when reading data from the portion of the DVD closest to the center, and was most likely to freeze when reading data from the outer portion of the DVD. That led me to suspect that the optical drive Sony is putting into the 510H probably does not have the quality level that it should have. For completeness, let me add that, for more than 12 years, I have made extensive use of a Sony DVP-NS710H DVD player, which has operated flawlessly, and which is basically an earlier version of the 510H player that is being reviewed here. Every one of the DVDs that the 510H could not read still works perfectly in my old 710H, so the problem is definitely the 510H, and not the DVDs. I had hoped to retire my extensively-used 710H in favor of the spanking new 510H. But instead, I had to return the 510H to the store, and I continue to use my 710H.

Took the chance of buying open box because it was cheap and my school district kept promising me a DVD player for the past two years but never got me one. The price was great since I was using my own money. I planned to use this in my classroom for DVD media I own that cannot be found on any streaming services. The first one I bought was described as having an HDMI port but it did not. I returned it and purchased this one. Screen says “DVD cannot be played” no matter what I tried to do with it. I tried Googling fixes, trying different DVDs, resetting it and nothing. When I brought it back I was informed it was past the return date…but if I was a Best Buy Club member then maybe they could have done something. I went to the Geek Squad counter and they told me they “don’t do DVD players” and that I have to contact Sony. This particular player was purchased in November. I didn’t try to use it until after the winter break. Now I am stuck with a piece of equipment that never worked. How are they even allowed to sell something that: 1. isn’t the product that is described and 2. doesn’t even work? I have been a Best Buy credit card holder for several years but this has made me decide to cancel my card.

I have two of these now. Super solid DVD player. HD and AV hookups. My only desire is that there could be a similar version that has "component" hookups also.

This DVD player has an HDMI output, and also actual buttons on the front of the unit so you can still use it if you lose the remote. Two must have features in my opinion, and still at a good price.

This DVD player replaced a 4 plus year old Sony dvd player. I bought another Sony device per its reliability. This is a basic unit; I do not need all the latest options.
This DVD player meets my needs, without any doubts, nor any issues.

This is a basic model, with HDMI output making connection simple with nearly any television. We have two of these, and they work just fine. My only complaint is the loss of the front panel display to show elapsed time.

I wanted a clean look, so I had to hide my DVD player sideways behind the flat screen which is mounted to the wall.
I wish it would have come with an HDMI cable, those things are expensive (almost more than the player itself).
