I wanted an inexpensive, simple-to-use DVD player, nothing complicated. This was easy to set up with the HDMI feature. The remote was easy to sync with the television. My TV remotes do not have an input button, but the one on the DVD remote works. The image and sound quality are very good.

I wish I could review the buying/return process instead of the dvd player...the player was super basic and provided a terrible picture. That said, I'm still VERY happy w my overall experience. It took me longer to walk from my car tthan to complete the return process.

No cable, fast Internet. Have a 24" computer monitor and a 40" Sony TV both fed by the computer in my office. I can now watch DVDs on the TV and work on the computer.

I bought this DVD player because it said it was an all-area player and it most definitely isn't. I had to buy another player, so I can play all of my DVDs. I guess I can't trust Best Buy.

Purchased two of these about 2 years ago; both have since died. Both experienced the same issues about 6-months ago: not reading discs, taking a very long time to load, skipping. Initially thought it was the DVD, but were new or excellent condition. As of today, both read 'cannot play this disc' for every DVD inserted.
I guess the life expectancy of a below $50.00 DVD is 2-years. Disappointed in SONY.

I’m Through with Sony!

I used to think Sony was a great brand for electronic products. But my recent Sony purchases have been crap, including a DSC-H5 digital camera that can only take about 10 pictures on a fresh set of batteries before they go dead, and this DVD player, of which I’ve had two, both of which failed miserably.
My first one lasted a couple years before it started to freeze up every few minutes while playing a DVD. When it did so, it was totally unresponsive to the remote and to the front-panel buttons, so the only way to recover from the problem was to physically unplug it and then plug it back in, by which time it was ready to freeze up again in a few minutes. It was maddening.
But when I replaced it, I decided to go with this slightly upgraded version of the same model, a decision that was clearly not my best. The new one lasted only two weeks before it started to have a similar problem, and worse. Not only did it occasionally freeze up; also, about half the time it wouldn’t start playing a TV episode from the beginning but rather would start from the second or third chapter stop. Nothing that I tried to fix it worked, and it happened with DVDs that I KNOW were good; the discs weren’t the problem. So I returned it to the store, since it was well within the 30-day return window.
To say that I’m disappointed with Sony in general, and this DVD player in particular, is a huge understatement. Many other companies out there make these kinds of products, and now and in the future they, and not Sony, will get my business.
Steer clear of this piece of junk unless you want to buy into a world of trouble.
