    Excellent for the Price

I bought this little MP3 player for my mom for her birthday and I have to say: it's much better than I expected!! She is a bit technologically challenged so I wanted to get something that wasn't too confusing to use and this is perfect! The radio works wonderfully and gets great reception, the layout is extremely easy to use, getting your music on/off the player is incredibly easy (although I haven't figured out how to get it directly from CD to the player - we always have to load the CD to the computer first), the screen has a crisp/clear picture. One of the things I don't like about the player is that you can't create a playlist directly on the player. In order to make one you have to go onto the computer and create it/save it through there. Which isn't really conducive to situations when you're nowhere near a computer. The other thing I don't really like is that it doesn't come with a wall charger, you need to charge it through the computer. Although, if you have a phone charger with a mini-usb head you can use that :-)

    Great MP3 for the price!

This thing works great. The sound is incredible and it is very easy to use. It's only an 8 gig but a guy at my work has the same one with more than 1,100 songs on it and there is still plenty of space left for more. I researched online and tried my co-workers model and it is the best MP3 for the money I could find. This MP3 holds pictures, videos, and much more. I had loaded everything I had for videos, music, and pictures on my computer onto the MP3 on accident (click happy incident) and I just reached 50% of its memory. I am very impressed with it and recommend it to everyone. I have always owned Sony products and will continue to do so.

    GREAT Product

I recently bought this Sony MP3 for my wife. She loves to read but has developed macular degeneration (AMD) and needed a small, easily operated portable device so she could keep up with her reading with the "talking books" program. This Sony MP3 fits the bill perfectly! It's so easy to operate that she can find and operate the control buttons without looking. We've also loaded some of her favorite music to the MP3. Because of the 8GB memory, there's no problem with having enough room for anything she wants to listen to. As a matter of fact, I've listened to some of the music, and the sound quality is excellent. This is a great product at a reasonable price, and I would recommend it to anyone!

    2nd Best MP3!

I first had a Samsung YP-3 MP3 and i LOVED IT!!! My dog ate it and unfortunately they don not make them anymore. So i got this one on sale and with returning my old MP3 i got it for $11. Great Deal! I wish you could put pics as a background and a on the-go playlist like my old one. but for $11 i couldn't pass it up. its very easy to put music on. All you do is drag and drop, its easy to put videos on and the radio reception is 100X better than my old MP3. :-) this is a WONDERFUL MP3 and i describe it as an "ipod touch without the touch." bc/ it has built in speakers and great features. If your are looking for a great MP3 you've found it!!!!! :-) -best of luck.

    Good Buy For The Money

I bought this for my pre-teen. I didn't want to spend the money for an iPod without knowing if it would be in good hands (if you know what I mean). I found it very difficult to download songs on this one. I also purchased the 16gb. In comparison the 16gb has a stand and external speakers and was easy to get songs (drag and drop) after finding the complete directions in a folder once it was on line. The 8gb doesn't have those features and either it didn't recognize the same program I used for the 16gb, or I have to download it's own. Either way, I used iTunes to load the songs on the 8gb because it never worked for me.

    Pwnage MP3 Player

Best thing is the price. I got mine for 79.99 with a 9.99 1 year warranty and it came with a pair of rather nice ear phones. It's battery life is really good, I think it says it has a 30-hour battery life or so, I would say it might be even longer then that depending how high the volume is set. The video quality on it is super good, like a mini HD TV. Also once you get the hang of it it is very easy to use. It also has lots of options, I personally liked the "equalizer" it has, which lets you change the musics play settings like in windows media player. The only negative thing I have found out about it is that it strachtes extremly easily, I kind of tossed it onto a desk (only like a 5 inch toss) and it stratched the entire back of it... I would highly recommend getting a case for it if you don't want scratches. But although it does get scratches, I have dropped it a few times and it still works even after a hard fall, just is kinda scratched up. I'm really glad that I bought it, love it's 8 GB of storage for only 79.99......Gotta get a case for it now...

    A Splendid Deal

I have to admit that this gadget turned out to be a very splendid deal. I can see why it was featured as a bestseller. It's just almost a month since I've purchased it and I have yet to encounter any issues. The battery is good, the sound is good (but you should get better ear buds for an improvement), and the player is easy to use. The only gripe (and a minor one at that) is that it's not very easy to figure out how to get the album artwork to appear. I have yet to learn how to. I've always liked iPods in general except for the fact that you are stuck with using iTunes. With this player, you just drag and drop the files, and you can create folders for them as well. Make sure that you have appropriate id3 tags or edit them yourself in order for the songs to be listed in whatever order you want them to be listed (such as track number, album, artist, etc.). It doesn't matter what the file names are for the songs, as long as the tags are filled out. Just right-click on the file and select the "details" tab and then you can edit the fields (many songs are filled out already). Also, iPods are too pricey and this player serves as a great one if you are on a budget. I had a coupon for $10, so it was even cheaper for me.

    Darn Good MP3

After using a Zune, a Sansa Fuze, and an iPod, I think this Sony has them all beat with respect to features to price. I am very pleased with the Sony thus far. Set up is a breeze and the player itself is intuitive. I had two Zunes and both players broke (not to mention the software did not always download/upload properly) albeit when they worked it was quite nice. Still, I think the Sony is easier to use. The great thing about the Sony is that you can easily drag and drop from Windows media player or iTunes.

Not So Great for Books on Tape

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this to replace a 4GB Sansa Fuse that came with Skull Candy earphones in a package, which I, sadly, lost. This unit had twice the storage for the price, nicer screen, and good reviews. I used these predominantly for books on tape. For that purpose the Sansa is a much better choice. First, the Sony loses it's place often. That wouldn't be so bad, but combined with the VERY LAME fast forward on this unit, it's pretty irritating. The FF is a SINGLE speed (slow), unlike the Sansa and Creative units that I've had in the past, where you hold the FF button down and it begins racing through the material. So the unit is probably great for 99% of you out there who use it for music, but it's a big disappointment for my books on tape usage. Oh, the headphones sound ok, really. I just can't stand anything but in-the-ear after having Skull Candy. The buds that come with this unit are not the in-the-ear type so I personally hate them, but for they really do sound pretty good quality-wise. I'm hoping Sony will release new firmware and fix the very frequent (100% of the time if I don't use the unit for like three days) losing my spot in the book and the FF feature deficiency. I dinged the unit in features and durability for this. The physical durability is good, but the software durability is lacking on my unit.

    Great Alternative

I am a PC so finding an 8 gig player that was less than half the cost of the IPOD type players, I thought was a great thing. There were no installation issues, it is easy to transfer songs to, and since you can create folders just like it is an external hard drive and create playlists from those folders, the 8+ gig of songs I already had I found were easy to organize and manage. Great item for the money.

This unit is really easy to navigate and has good sound. The battery life isnt as great as advertised, but it still beats any other player I have had. It is lightweight, a little flimsy. it seems to be quite a bit slower than the others when I download music, pics onto it....not sure why! For what I paid for this mp3, I am overall satisfied

i received it as a xmas present. it is VERY user friendly and i have windows 7. just drag your songs to the mp3 folder and it shows. it evens prompts u if you have a song in a different format not supported by your mp3. i do wish i could change the colors on the display screen to personalize it. i dont like the ear phones but i had some other ear phones that fit the plug but i am good.

    Serious design issues

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Great player in many respects that include computer to computer transfer/addition of music without having to erase everything like the IPOD. It doesn't quite have the power that my wife's IPOD has for driving larger headphones, and the difference in sound quality on my Sony noise cancellation headphones is quite noticeable between the 2 players. The addition of a radio tuner is nice. HOWEVER, there is a major issue with this player that Sony can easily address with a firmware upgrade. You cannot charge this player and play it at the same time through it's minijack! The act of charging the player locks all of its buttons. This seriously limits the player's functionality. When is the last time you saw a portable technology going back to cassette tapes in which you could not use the player while plugged in to a wall socket? Now, If your stereo has a USB input, you can charge and utilize the player's drive as a flashdrive and choose songs to play, but not your playlists or radio. And, since the player creates folders according to artist name as you save music to the player, you can't access all of your songs! This limits playback to the number of songs in the subfolder of a given artist! This is a terrible design problem, but one easily fixed by a firmware upgrade to the flashdrive. I hope Sony reads this and fixes what could be an outstanding player for a fraction of the cost of an equivalent IPOD.

    8GB for $79? Can't complain about that.

I had to do a double take when I saw that this bad boy was only $79 for 8GB. Really? Meanwhile the new 8GB iPod Nano has (drumroll) A VIDEO CAMERA (sarcastic) Wow! The Sony E-Series 8GB player has an alarm and a sleep timer which is nifty. There's also an FM radio, which is not too shabby. The player is very user friendly because of the simplistic drag and drop function making is easy to add music. The only things I'm not a fan off is the flimsy feel of the player and the battery life. Yeah, not exactly a 30 hours when fully charged. That aside, this is the best option for those who want a quality MP3 player without the $150 pricetag and... a video camera. Really Apple? That's the best upgrade you could think of?

What is good: The size was good-able to hide it while working out; The price was good for the amount of storage; cute pink color; nice to put pics on it but it wasn't a feature I used; easy to recharge the internal battery-just plug into the USB-no buying new batteries What is NOT good:VERY unhappy with the music service provider-Best Buy Digital Music Store with Rhapsody- I pay $14.99:mo for unlimited downloads but the songs aren't "mine",can't even burn to CD without paying per track on top of monthly fee; you have to "reauthenticate" the subscription all the time which means you can't quit Rhapsody or you won't be able to listen to your music anymore..lots of computer/technical issues with the site and downloading music...couldn't put it on mybrand new laptop (not compatible for some reason) I may not be the most technically savvy person so SOME kind of instruction book would be nice It turns on when bumped...not just when pressing the button...takes FOREVER to turn off...therefore drains the battery Couldn't plug it into anything else with a USB connection (like the PS3 for example) to listen to the music-wouldn't play I have had this for over a year now and I wish I had bought another brand in the first place...feel like I wasted my money.. If anyone can tell me how to use a different music service provider I'd be appreciative...the MP3 itself was OK-not horrible/not great-but it's the experience of owning it as a whole that made me give it low reviews

I had to get my friends extra ear buds in order to use this device in the gym, and especially on the move such as running or walking. the ear buds that come with this item fall out easily. do not attempt to sync this device with your windows media player unless you are ready to lock up the device and windows... other than that, this device works great! just drag and drop folders or indiviual files through your usb port and it will work great. music is crystal clear and sounds good. the ear buds that fell out sound great. perhaps ots my ears that are faulty, (most likely) so i would defintely recommend this items for anyone.

Overall this mp3 player is great for anyone who doesn't need all the bells and whistles. pros: easy to use, big screen, fm tuner, etc cons: inconvenient because you can't create a playlist on the device itself. (although while it's charging you can make the playlist on the computer.) I might be doing something wrong, but every time I create a playlist to sync to the device it ends up downloading everything off of my computer(i.e. pictures, video, and other songs I don't want on my mp3 player). and you can't delete songs off of the device without plugging it into the computer(unless I just don't know how but i've been through every menu!) I know it seems that there are more cons than pros, but overall it's just more inconvenient than anything else. Great for the price and if you want everything downloaded from your computer to the device...just gotta stay on top of it!
