These earbud headphones are a less expensive alternative to get deep bass than the conventional multi balanced armature - in ear monitors that can cost three times as much. The highs are crisp and detailed as one would expect from a balanced armature. The lows are very good since a conventional dynamic driver can move a lot of air. It is the best of both worlds. I found the overall sound to be thin. The midrange is lacking. The sound is not as detailed as the multiple BA earphones. To get good bass reproduction, you must have a good seal in your ear. The largest ear tip supplied is really medium sized. It takes a lot of fidgeting to get a good seal with these small ear tips. The earphones themselves are bulky and don't extend very far into the ear. You must get them to seal on the outer part of the ear canal. I'm still giving these four stars because with a good seal and some equalization of the sound to enhance the mid frequencies, they sound really good.

I like these, but I don't love them unfortunately. I have a pair of Sony MDRXB50AP buds that I prefer the sound of, but they're extremely uncomfortable for me to wear for more than about 30 minutes. The MDRXB50AP have 12mm dynamic drivers as opposed to 9mm hybrid drivers in the XBAH1 and they have deeper bass (by design) and a more dynamic (louder at the same volume setting) sound. There are songs that each sounds better on and for sure the more bass heavy the song, the more I prefer the MDR's. Now on songs that aren't head bangers ..... the XBAH1's are far better. They're really more of an audiophile type clean, exact reproduction type set and the MDR's frankly are catered towards the younger crowd. Again I like them both, but I wear the XBAH1's because they're far more comfortable for me ... and we're all a little different apparently. Also I wear them because they always sound good and not boomy on songs that aren't intended to be bass heavy. I just turn the volume up more to compensate for the reduced output, but there are times, like in the noisy section of propeller aircraft, where my MP3 player just won't drive them hard enough. Honestly a good headphone amp would bring these to life and one is in my near future. Oh I'm 52, and like a lot of the new punchy stuff, but my preference is generally towards 70's classic rock and easy listening.

I ordered and listened to 12 different manufacturer headsets for both on ear and in ear. These Sony in ears are my favorite. Music is crisp, not boomy like a set of horrible Beats headsets. My ears don't feel fatigued after listening to these on long flights or study sessions in the library. I listened to the Bose in store, and I still liked the Sony. They are way cheaper and sound even better to me. I listen to Classical, Metal, Pop, Rap, Techno, Electronica, and Dubstep! Everything sounded great! I also picked the Sony MDR-7506 Studio Monitors for my over the ear headsets. These two headsets are the best of two worlds. If your looking for precise, studio quality music as the artist intended the music to sound, these are the ones for you. Comes with a nice case and several rubber ear pieces for different ear shapes.

These sound fantastic! Way better than any earbuds I've had before. The only downside for me is their size; they are lightweight, but they stick out of the ear further than I'd prefer.

I thought about going for the Bose noise cancelling earbuds but over $200 and some reviews of mediocre sound turned me away. These Sony's had some very good reviews on comfort and sound and are not overly bass-heavy which is good since I listen to more jazz and classic rock than hip hop. They are also very comfortable and after a few minutes don't even realize they're in my ears. Would recommend them for the price.

Did a lot of research online before buying these with most professional reviews stating they were the best pair of headphones you could buy for the price. I would agree. These Sony's have a very neutral sound to them, they don't have extremely overstated low end like some other headphones and have very clear mids and highs. They are easily the best sounding headphones I've had. I've also had similarly priced Bose in ears and a set of klipsch for comparison.

Headphone sound quality exceeds that of higher cost Bose. Good high and low notes, and extra ear buds for different sizes. Would have been 5 stars if Microphone was included.

Nice definition in all ranges. Doesn't have as much depth as I like but very stable even at high volume. There are better earbuds out there but the price is ok, not great but ok.You will definitely hear all that is available in the music you listen to as the dual drivers are very well balanced. I have seen them on sale for 99.00 and for that price they are a deal.

When I have headphones on, I want not only high quality sound, but as much noise cancellation as possible. The comfort on these earbuds is great, especially with a number of different sized earbud tips. On top of that, they come with tips that have foam insulation that is a wonderful barrier from ambient noise. Bass, midrange, and treble all come out clear.

I had already purchased this unit and went back to buy another since I needed another set for other devices. I am happy with the sound and the set is comfortable on my ears which is an issue with other headphones.

Very nice sounding with a mild bass boost that I prefer but not overbearing like some other brands. Isolation is very good with the included foam filled tips and it also come with conventional silicon tips.

They are very light and fit good. The sound is great. I was very happy with my perches. Would buy again.

I was interested in a new pair of decent earbuds and I'm a believer in Sony's ability to make some seriously great gear. I'm a long-time owner and listener of the venerable MDR-7506 headphones which are absolutely spectacular. These buds, while quite a bit more expensive, are just about the equal of the 7506. Not quite there but its an apples to oranges comparison. Pretty good execution on Sony's part.

This earset actually surprised me far more than I expected. The highs, lows and mids never muddied or drowned out the others. I listen to everything from Rock, Country to some Classical and they all sounded just amazing.

after recommendation from wire-cutter tried this, The noise isolation,build quality,ruggedness and comfort level is too good. But the sound quality i dint feel like a 150$ worth, Price is too much

Best earbuds I've ever bought. Great for every day use, I use these on the train during my commute and don't hear a thing outside my music. I used my old iPhone headphones the other day and immediately took them off because I'm so used to these headphones now.

I returned the Bose earplugs because they kept fallng out of my ear. Since I had Sony plugs for the past 10 years, I went back to them and am cmpletely satisfied. Never going to switch brands again!

I really like the depth and quality of sound they provide! I searched specs for several brands before deciding on these. The research was worth it!
