Sony got the bass right this time!

Today I returned my Altec Lansing BackBeat Pro headphones because the sound quality was a huge let down. This time around, I came home with the Sony MDR-XB40EX Extra Bass headphones. Wow, is all I can say! Sony finally got the bass right in this model. The bass is big & really hits hard. The highs & mids are alright for the type of headphones these are, but it would be nice if they were more detailed. They definitely could sound brighter compared to other brands, but for the price & style it's all good. I love the flat cord, it feels tough. Sony also gives you a nice case, which is black & has a zipper. The design is none like any other brand, it's unique and many people compliment the freah & new look of Sony. These are very good headphones! In total complete sound, they're better than the Bose In-Ear headphones, Shure SE110, Sennheiser CX300, and the Altec Lansing BackBeat 206. They're still not as good as the Altec Lansing BackBeat 326 headphones, but that's saying a lot. Not many headphones out there can compete to such a great set of headphones. The sound quality of these Sony MDR-XB40EX falls right in between the Altec Lansing BackBeat 206 & 326 model headphones. Go out and buy this excellent set of headphones, you can't go wrong with the big bass of the Sony MDR-XB40EX.

You get the bass you paid for

You get some amount of bass (bass quality proportional to the money you paid for, not dynamic), I like the flat cord, narrower than Dr. Dre's earbuds, it also prevents annoying tangles. Not as huge as you would think while looking at the buds inside the package. doesn't stick out much once in place into your ears. A bit weighty, compared to other buds, maybe that's why sony included an optional clip to secure the cord onto your shirt. As mentioned above, you lose a great deal of mids and trebles. This works out if you got music that you want emphasis on the bass. Overall, it's a good buy for the money, especially in my case i got a $20 rewards coupon from BB which i used to snag this buds.

Best Headphones I've ever owned. The sound quality is outstanding. Very good bass and really good Highs. The flat cord is a very good investment, it, in my opinion, is more durable then the regular cord. Very comfortable and stays in your ears really well. Trust me Very good headphones. definitely worth the money. I would absolutely recommend these to anyone that's picky about sound quality.

    These buds Rock

Let me first say that while sony does no call the headphones "sound isolating" I am willing to bet no other pair on the market block any more outside sound, They block about as much noise as a pair of foam earplugs. My wife who is very critical was extremely impress with their sound isolating ability. The bass is outstanding it rivals the Dr. Dre Beats and you don't give up mids and highs for the performance. These buds produce twice the sound with half the volume of my old pair of pair which were not cheap by any means. As for comfort I think they are great, but that gets to be more of a personal thing. I would suggest your put a pair up against whatever you are currently using and see how they compare, You will be surprised, my guess is unless you spend two or three times the money you will not find a better pair.

    Amazingly Great Pair of Earbuds

I have only had these for a day or so but I love them so far because they are only pair of headphones that can be extremely loud in my ears and my mom doesn't complain about. I have been looking for a pair that give me great volume and quality but every pair I get my mom gets angry because she can hear what is being played through them. But these are so great that she can't hear a thing. Also the bass on these are the best I have ever heard on a pair of headphones before. I would recommend these before I recommend a pair of Bose Headphones. You get a whole lot more for the small price of 29.99 (When I bought them). Inexpensive pair of headphones that have great quality and sound isolation.

I bought these ear buds to replace the pair of Bose earbuds my dog ate. These earbuds are actually better than the Bose in my opinion. While the Bose may be a bit more comfortable due to the design, the sound reproduction is far superior on the Sony. The bass is deeper without any distortion and the mids and highs are nice and crisp. They also are louder than the Bose. I used to play my player with the volume set around 18, which was loud enough to drown out my co-workers noise without blowing my eardrums. With the Sony If I go past twelve my ears start to bleed (j/k). I'd recommend these earbuds to everyone.

    Steal of a Deal

I bought a pair these Sony MDR-XB40EX ear buds along with a pair of ultimate ears LE and a pair of Kliplsh s4. The Sony's where far superior in sound qaulity with much better presence in the highs, mids, and lows at one third the cost. At $29.99 you can't beat them. They are very comfortable. Only drawback is that they start to slide out when the silicone warms up but not a problem. I really like the no twist or tangle cord. It makes my ipod alot more manageable and the cord length is perfect. Needless to say I took the high dollar buds back.

    Actually Pretty Good

I bought these thinking that they would be just like standard headphones, but i was wrong. After switching on bass boost on my iPod the things sounded perfect. Nice highs, clean mids, and deep lows. The only thing for you to know is that when these get very overwhelmed with signal (hardly ever) the sound gets a little crumbly, but if you really care that much that they can get overwhelmed the go and spend 200 bucks on Bose headphones and not these. One little tip, if it feels like they are going to fall out of your ear, try putting the next size down of ear-buds (included) on, it works almost everytime.

    Awesome Sound

The sound is great but they can't handle too much bass. Had to turn the bass-boost off on my Touch, the sound starting crapping out on some trance. But don't let that stop you because without bass-boost the sound is great and they pump out a lot of bass on their own. Like another reviewer said the headphones noise-cancel well. So good that in between songs I can here myself breath, a little weird. The price was spectacular. Went into the local Bestbuy store looking for the cheaper Sony headphones based on the on-line reviews and was pleasantly surprised to find these on clearance for the same price. Basically half off, not bad. One of rare times immediate gratification paid off.

These earbuds have fantastic sound. For the price you pay, you are getting sound that can be compared to some $200 earbuds. I will say they can sometime get a little uncomfortable when wearing them for an extended period of time. However, they are worth it for the price. Easily. ***RECOMMED***

    Extra Bass..?

When you pick up the package from the shelf, and you read extra bass, you expect to be fairly impressed by the amount of bass, and in the past, i was always impressed by sony, but latelty they have been sub par, and these ear buds are definitely sub par, when you put on the bass boost on you ipod or iphone and turn up the volume, the low end is still very weak and breaks up badly.. save yourself some money and spend the 20 buck on the JVC Marshmallow model HAFX34B, what a great set of ear buds, and for only 20 bucks, truly impressive..!
