While i wasnon the fence about purchasing the Portal, I’ve found myself playing my PS5 more than ever before. Having a wife and kids who are often in control of the TV in the main living room, this allows me to use my PS5 while the wife and kids are watching a show, movies, or playing on another video game console. Highly recommended. I would only suggest to pick up over having it shipped when possible because the 3rd party delivery service used is awful.

The PlayStation Portal is honestly pretty awesome if you want to play your PS5 without being glued to the TV. It feels just like holding a DualSense controller with a big, bright screen stuck in the middle — in a good way. The controls are legit, the haptics feel great, and it’s super comfy to use for a long time.
When your Wi-Fi is solid, the Portal works really well. Games look good, the connection feels smooth, and it’s perfect for chilling on the couch, in bed, or basically anywhere in the house. The catch? It only streams from your PS5. No apps, no cloud gaming, and you can’t even use normal Bluetooth headphones — you need PlayStation Link for wireless audio.

Being able to have your PS on the go is great. I travel a ton for work but I’ve been able to play without having to pack my entire PS5. The system will sometimes lag which is sometimes expected with some WiFi but other than that, I have had no other issues.

This wonderful piece of machinery has given me the chance to get my game on. As a grown man with responsibilites and children, those things come first. And i don't want to hog the tv by gaming, so i put it off and off and off and I never get to play on my PS5. Now I can easliy chill on the couch with my family while we all enjoy something on the big screen and I can disappear into a game-world of magic. A solid wifi connection and having the PS5 on a wired connection and rest mode helped to optimize performance. I love this thing.

This was the remote play experience that I have been wanting. I have zero issues with lag or poor stream quality. Sure you can use your phone/tablet or PC to remote play but this is far more convenient for me. I can simply pick it up and start playing. The battery life is decent and about the same as a dualsense controller. The screen is bright and looks crisp. I was pleasantly surprised with the audio as well. I agree, this device isnt for everyone. But for me its perfect.

Overall, a really nice successor to a PSP. It is easy to grab on the go and play some PS5 games on trips. The online connectivity can be a pain sometimes, as it can be difficult to get to work on some hotel wifi. I mainly use it for non-competitive sports games and rpgs. Build quality is questionable. I had some horrible joystick drift that I had to do a lot of troubleshooting for. Eventually, I was able to fix it without replacing the joycon module, but I almost did. The gaps for the joysticks seem to be larger than on a dualsense allowing more dust/ crumbs in.

Bought it last year and didn’t really use it much. But knew they would release an update to allow you to stream games without having the console on. So now I play it a lot more as a pick up and play when I have free time around the house. Works great with good WiFi. When the wifi isn’t great then it tends to lag or disconnect

I really liked the PlayStation portal since I don't have a TV in my room and the PlayStation is always in the living room so the purchase suited me a lot since you can play in my room while my parents are watching a movie without a doubt I don't regret it although I still think it's a little expensive.

Very convenient way to stream from your ps5. This device allows me to play late and not wake up the wife and kids. A PS5 console is required to use this device and console must be in rest mode to turn on from the portal. The main gripe I have about the device is my hands cramp up from holding the portal after minimal game time, but I do not experience this holding the Dualsense. Also, the resolution is not as clean as playing from the actual console. This is expected since you are streaming from the console, but makes me wish I was playing on the TV instead for better graphical quality. All in all it is a very handy device and glad I made the purchase so I can stay up later to play BG3 with the bois.

It’s a nice device. Works really good with a decent internet connection. The screen is so much bigger vs a iPhone and you can see much more detail in games you’re playing. The battery lasts a decent amount of time. Remote is great if others wanna watch the tv

We bought the PlayStation Portal mainly so my son could keep playing his PS5 when he has sleepovers at his grandparents’ or friends’ houses. Mission accomplished he literally packs it like it’s another limb now. The fact that he can just pick up and play his saved games on the big TV at home the second he walks back in the door (no cloud saves or anything to mess with) is pure magic for him. Streaming quality has been rock-solid on our home Wi-Fi and even holds up pretty well on my parents’ decent-but-nothing-special internet. The screen looks fantastic, battery life easily gets him through an evening + morning of Fortnite and Roblox without needing a charge, and the built-in controller feels exactly like a real DualSense.

Bought this as a gift for my husband, and it's worked out really well so far. It's comfortable to hold, easy to use, and the picture is phenomenal. It was simple to connect to the existing Playstation/account, and the way it can be used is really convenient. He loves the size of the screen, and the feel of the buttons. The volume on this thing gets LOUD, and I'm really impressed with the overall quality. The Portal is well designed, looks sleek and sophisticated, and was easily integrated into our current TV stand setup.

I love this thing i just wish it did more or was a standalone device however i am enjoying ff tactics on it right now but it mostly stays tucked away however for the price you paid it does what it says and does it well and its super comfortable to hold

Best investment if you’re sharing a TV with family or not wanting to keep roommates up with the tv screen. Movers picked up all my stuff so currently using it as a standalone which is pretty nice with the selections available from the PS Plus subscription. But definitely prefer it with the PS5. The downside I feel is not having Bluetooth capabilities which maybe explains the price point. You can’t pair your gaming headphones with it even with an adapter. So if you’re wanting to have a reason to get the matching headset then sure.

When using remote play, single player games work fantastic. No input lag or delays even when playing games several hundred miles from my ps5 as long as you have a fairly decent internet connection. There is input lag when playing online games, but that is to be expected. Cloud streaming is a great deal, especially since you don’t actually need a ps5 for that!

The portal has been an awesome accessory device for me. I understand that not everyone is going to have the same experience due to different networking setups, but for mine, it has worked flawlessly. It's made me play my PlayStation way more helped me get even more value out of it

The PS5 Portal Black Edition is honestly pretty awesome if you already own a PlayStation 5 and want to play anywhere in the house without hogging the TV. It’s not a full-on handheld like a Switch, but it does what it’s made for really well.
